You are the 1st American I've watched on KZbin who went to Soweto the right way. Best video ever. True reflection of Soweto/kasi
@dinaledi4085Ай бұрын
Reallly nice vlog but definitely not the only reflection of Soweto. Soweto has 32 townships guys and all have a different class and feel. Orlando West which is 10 minutes from Orlando East where Coop is touring is very different. The one thing that every township has in common in Soweto lingo and the outgoing and friendly nature of our people.
@karabonkabinde7290Ай бұрын
@@dinaledi4085there's parts of in Soweto that look exactly like the suburbs where the video started. If you go to Rockville that side of Moroka dam, or Pimville Entabeni, or Bervely Hills, or DK Extension, you'll even forget that Soweto is supposed to be the ghetto.
@dinaledi4085Ай бұрын
@@karabonkabinde7290 That's true. The vlog explores Orlando East which is in Soweto but we can't say they explored Soweto. So far the people I've seen giving an authentic and real experience of Soweto are the tour guides used by a company called The Real South Africa. They also have a KZbin channel. They are African American but stayed in SA for sometime and socialized with real SAns before they started their company so they knew who to employ in order to give their clients a quality and real experience of SA. No imposters.

No, I like the video, but he has a tendency to be jerk a lot of times, and he's too old for this attitude. As South Africans, we must be welcoming, but not allow people to treat us like we are bums. We don't owe them anything, Black Americans don't even originate from South Africa, we are accommodating them out of love and the kindness of our hearts, they must not be condescending towards us like we are some West Africans who owe them favors for selling them to slavery.

I was intrigued by those large splendid Palm 🌴 trees. This was a thorough assessment of South African culture.

Nope as someone who grew up just a few minutes from Orlando I can tell you he only toured Orlando East and it is by no means a reflection of all of Soweto or even Orlando West or Dube which are the closest townships to Orlando East. Its like going to Harlem or The Bronx and then thinking you saw and experienced all of New York. Soweto has 32 townships and Orlando East is just one of them. Mr jackson, last time I constructively critisised you on your 2 previous SA videos. Now, I must salute you (you see it works both ways). Great job of immersing yourself into the culture respectfully, non-judgemental, curious, and you get all the love. Shout out to all ppl you encountered in the one and only Soweto an amalgation of different classes, tribes, and even small portion of Afro nations (as you saw the Zim or Ethiopians) as a result of the township spatial planning (zoning like in the Jim Craw era in the USA). Soweto is the cultureal and political epi centre avantgarde of South Africa, if not even Southern Africa. The good, the bad, the ugly and you´ve probably seen just 1% so far. But, I guess all ordinary AA, Carribeans, Africans, and even South Americans can much relate once you hit the streets of colourful Soweto with its unique raw beauty. Now, many here say this is the real South Africa. I can´t fully agree, bc all of SA is the real South Africa. The townships, the suburbs, and the rural part and only Africans can move like a fish in the water back and forth, which explains why this is the African men´s land...and Mr J you are one of us.. Welcome and I command all other so-called YT to do it like you did! Well done.

Townships are a product of a concept called ghettoisaion that was introduced in the US and some Latin American countries. In the US ghettoisation produced neighbourhoods like Compton in Carlifornia and Brooklyn iNew York to mention just the more famous ones. They are generally referred to as the "Projects". The same concept was introduced by apartheid SA.In both countrythey were intended to segregate races. Ghettos are formal and structured and are not slums. Alex for example is more of a slum than a priduct if ghettoisation because ghettos are planned and developed by municipalities. South Africa is the only country in Africa with this kind of formalised seondary residential development. On a social level the consequence of ghettos and their products and way of life is generally the same. Thats why there is a Zola and a Tu Pac. In other Africa. countries you only get cities and rural areas. This kind of formal ghetoisation/secondary residential area does nit exist. Thats why South Africans relate to every bit of the US black experience. Boys in the Hood was a very good potrayal of a typicall tiwnhip in the early 90s

As an urban and economic planner I do enjoy sharing abit of what the actual facts are as opposed to opinions. So shout out to Mamelodi, Soweto, Brooklyn, Queensbridge, Mdantsane, Compton, Gugulethu, New Brighton, Msobomvu, Kwa Mashu and every other hood.Tgese are not slums they are low income residential areas or social housing projects which were built formerly to accommodate blacks. All of them are near industrial areas so that the blacks don't live far from the factories and industries where they are required as cheap labour. Jim Crowe and Apartheid are twins that's why the consciousness of all black people who went through them is the same.

Nothing beats home-cooked meals. That chakalaka, sweet and sour chicken and braai pap looks delicious!

You got a very rare experience, you got to experience Soweto from a Sowetan. And you went into their house and experienced their culture

This is my best video of you man. This is our real life in the township. Not the suburban and Sandton life that most of youtubers show. Well done my guy...now you really know the lives of many South African who stay in the Kasi(township). ❤❤❤

Awesome vlog. Wasn't sure about mogurl in the first video as she seemed quite standoffish, but I guess she just needed to warm up to you. She seems like a sweetheart. Love her laugh.

Yooh I've never enjoyed a long video like this.A true unfiltered view of SA... We r tired as South African's when tourist r only shown the beautiful parts of south africa.... U entering an informal settlement (squatter camp) was the climax of the video we want people outside to know also that about SA, we r not ashamed of it is What makes South Africa complete.

Man first time I see your content, this is second video I see, first one was you at the stadium watching that terrible team called Pirates 😂. I enjoyed it as they lost the game. This video is a top, long but I enjoyed every second of it. I used to live in Moletsane around year 2000 to year 2003 i was working in Johannesburg, Moletsane is not far away from Orlando. Those ladies did a very good job for you, am used to seeing 10 min videos of Americans visiting South Africa but this is the best I've ever seen. Well done.
