If I could leran so can you! First, focus on quilting only. Do not compare to anyone. Just have fun. Instead of trying to create a pattern just get a feeling for the machine. Doodle...nothing special. Look what is the result when you move in a line or arch, echo the shape. Relax, put a music on, take a deep breath. Once, you will lern how to move the sandwich, then you can try to go for sertain shapes. It is for you. Not for perfect look or competition. It is for you to put all your love in your quilt

It's amazing how consistent all of your motifs are! I love this idea of creating a practice quilt (ruler work included!) with all of these designs, which will also serve as a reference for quilting ideas. I'm 65 and have pieced as many UFOs, but am only now beginning to research learning to quilt them all.. I strive to one day quilt as well as you do :) SO much to learn! Thank you for sharing your talent :)

Hi there! You are welcome! I am all for practice sandwiches. Most of them can be used for pot holders, cosmetic pouches, bags and so one so there is no waste. And I am sure you can learn. Many of my quilting friends started around your age. It was difficult to convince them, as they were used to perfection of their piecing, and they were expectibg the same perfect quilting result. Now, they are really good and happy. Learn at your own pace, do not compare with others only with your own work from before. Take few patterns and try what you like. This will be your basis. Let me know how it is going!❤❤❤

@@quiltingnerd Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement and very helpful hints to get me started! Last night I pasted the links to all of your videos into an email to myself so that I can watch each one and then write notes on them. I've watched SO many other tutorials but always came back to the very few who have a teaching style similar to yours. Then I found your channel and am hooked! Today I plan to make a pile of quilt sandwiches, then watch some videos, practice the patterns on paper, and .. who knows ;) Are you able to recommend a brand and/or vendor where I might find reasonably priced rulers? Have a beautiful Sunday :)

Hi there again! Thank you again for this wonderful feedback. it confirms that I can find audience with my quiet videos. It sounds like a very sound plan. Doodling on a paper is always helpful. In additin it has a therapy effect on its own. Go for it and have fun. Just remeber, it will make you addicted!!! About the rulers.... start small. straight ruler is a must. After that maybe some ovels and round ones. I am buying what I can find in europe as shippment costs from US are insane. Handiquilter is pretty good choice. However, sometimes, there are are smaller manufacturers that make good quality rulers. I bought some from Amazon, actually. Then, I also use a service of a young man with the right tools who cuts for me acrilic sheets into forms, but that is special. Just do not buy all of them at once. They will end up laying around. ❤❤❤❤@@KathyM-c6i

Great lesson! Thank you for the real time lesson, too! Very beneficial for beginners. I've broken more needles, had long to microscopic stitches, and made what looked like a big mess. Without a plan, I think I'd stay stuck, but after watching this, I believe I can try again! Thank you so much!!! ❤

Hi there, breaking needles sounds painful! Take it slow. Maybe it is your machine or some settings that make troubles. If I can recomend something, start really with back and forth lines. Once you get them going, rest is easy. Keeping my fingers crossed!❤❤❤

@@yvetteJ47 As long as you see a progress from one of your work to the next you are on the right way. And with feathers, the trick is to get them pointy at the stem. the line of the plum should be almost parallel before touching the stem. It took me some time to figure it out. Yes it is. We all have to start somewhere and most of us start with small machines where there is just enough space for such sandwich. I rarely show how I quilt my large quilts as they are not the best for filming but I do have one or two videos how to handle them. Extension table or machine sunk into the table for a large space. I have an arm with a clip to hold the rest of my quilt from slipping. And I do not turn around my large quilts as much. I go from the middle and move it to the edge. I rotate after I finish my quarter. It is work but possible to do❤❤❤

Loved watching how smoothly you moved across the quilt. I have more material than I will ever have time to piece and then quilt so I might use some of it to make whole cloth sandwiches like you have done here and just practice my free motion quilting this way. I can see it’s all about getting the right rhythm and maintaining a consistent speed. I have a sit down long arm table so I do have a large enough space to move a lap size quilt sandwich through the harp of my machine and then bind them and donate the finished quilts to organizations that need them. Thank you for this tutorial. You have truly inspired me! 🥰👍

What type of machine are you using and what speed do you have it set at? I noticed the needle is going up and down pretty fast, but your stitches are pretty even.
@quiltingnerd
@quiltingnerd 5 ай бұрын
Hi! I am using Janome M7. My speed is always around middle levels and I do not press my pedal all the way down. The needle looks fast, but with such things it is difficult to judge, as the camera acquisition rates may not match. I do not use a stich regulator, just quilt at a constant rate. I do not rush. Quilting is a slow art.❤❤❤

Beautiful quilting. Do you use a stitch regulator?
@quiltingnerd
@quiltingnerd Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this very kind comment. Nope, no stich regulator for me. For domestic machines you can get them for Bernina (a tad too expensive for me) and I tried it few times. I know some people love it and they get beautiful results, but I like the nice and steady sound of my machine. Stich regulator changes the speed adjusting to how fast you are moving your fabric. It confuses me 😂❤❤❤

Hi Minica! there is no official brand. This ruler was custom made by a skilled young man with the right tools. I can recommend handi quilter tools. Also, if you write from Us, there are so many small creators with great rulers!. I cannot order from them because the shippment and tax duty costs.

I myself design the traditional Nakshikantha of Bangladesh, our Nakshikantha here is all hand stitched and very beautiful stitched. Since I design myself, I have no need for sewing machine designs. I would draw the leafy flower design on the fabric myself with a pen and sew it on the sewing machine using only free thread. These two machines are my choice Hq stitch 710 or breather pq 1500 SL But I can't afford to buy it with so much money,,,which one is better in low budget please tell me What is the name and model of this machine? How much is the prize?

Hi, the designs I am showing are not machine made. I move the fabric under the needle. I am using quite an expensive machine Janome M7, but you can do what I do on a smaller and simpler machine. I started with a simple singer machine. The machine you need should be able to lover the feed dogs down (the little elements that move the fabris) and have a quilting foot. The rest is done by hand movement.

Hi. I'm new to sewing, interested in quilting. What kind of machine do you use to do what you are doing in the video. I currently have a Singer sew mate, can I start quilting with my current machine?
@quiltingnerd
@quiltingnerd Жыл бұрын
My machine is one you are buying when you are really into it. It is an investment. I bought it after I knew I love it. It is Janome M7 and it is large enough to sew and quilt a king size quilt. If you are a beginner you should wait if quilting is your passion. However, you can start quilting on a singer machine if you can lower or cover your feed dogs and have a hopping foot. Such small machines do not have quilting feet. If you have those two things you can try quilting.
@quiltingnerd
@quiltingnerd Жыл бұрын
I checked your machine and you have to ask in the shop if you can get a quilting foor for it. from on-line description it is difficult to say. If you cannot lower your feed dogs, you can always set the stich length to zero. I cannot help you more without sitting in front of your machine, unfortunately. ❤❤❤❤

I am not sure if you got your question from the side/direction point of view. In a quilt sandwich your patchwork top or nice fabric is on top. If it is question fo direction if I move it from back to front or from from to back it depends on you and your machine what is working better for you....❤❤❤
