100% agree brother! almost impossible to get everything done at the farm with just one tractor. I'm a hay producer from deep south Texas and we use 2 tractors on our farm. A Kubota L6060 Cabbed tractor with HST transmission and our work horse for big shredding jobs and dedicated baler use is our Kubota M5-111. It would be really difficult to run our business and farm with just one. I mean it could be done, but it sure would be a lot more work.

One thing you’re absolutely in resonance with my position on the E tractor is that it is a tool, and it works when functional capabilities match the task needs. As batteries have improved, capabilities have expanded. There are many tasks that require too much power to deliver via battery, that logistics preclude returning to a charging station, that time on task exceeds run time, or that the re-fueling step must be quick. Those advocates who don’t consider those limits are making political rather than functional decisions. I quite enjoy the electric chainsaw my sister got, and the weed eater / hedge trimmer I got, for smaller jobs near the base of operations. Gas chainsaws and trimmers can take me farther away and deal with bigger jobs. Our shop/shed is on the north end of a 2.4x0.75 mile sized farm, and only about 1/3 of the open ground is near the shop. The rest has a 2-mile one-way commute. Logistics dominates the decisions of what tool to choose. Hiking back for a can of gas isn’t fun, but it’s doable. I doubt an E tractor would reach feasibility in my lifetime.

I really do like TYM tractors for the reasons you gave and they look better than a Kubota or Kioti. Their dealerships are popping up every where here in Maine. They just built a new one in Houlton, Maine which is an hour south of me. We used to use powdered limestone aka as lime to rebalance the soil Ph before applying a mix of compost and manure to the schools student gardens and our FFA potato field. My academic teacherfs hated when I'd come to class smelling of hard work cause we used a manure spreader for tossing our compost manure mixture on the fields.

Man you're cattle follow nice. I was on a farm that had trough made out of iron water pipe just like a sled. RUN , dump feed, RUN get on tractor after hooking the drag chain. 25' long chain was USUALLY long enough that they didn't attack the tractor to often. RACE to the next field. Pull the hitch pin. Drive 50 yards away. What a nightmare.

I love what you are doing to restore soil fertility without chemicals. That is a great idea to bale graze your pastures to add to soil health. Have you thought about leasing your pastures to someone who wants to commercially raise pastured chickens and pastured egg production? The big byproduct to the farm is the chicken manure, cow manure spreading, and insect control left behind as permanent assets to the farm. If you lease it for these purposes, you do not need to manage them, market them and you get a free farm setter for a few days in exchange for you feeding and putting up the chickens a few days a summer. I think the assets are great enough that you would be money ahead to least the pastures for free.

why would I lease my working farm brother? I'd just raise them myself...however, there's nobody around that's farming here. Take a look around....farmers and folks that are working outside are few and far between nowadays. We have a mobile egg mobile that moves around the farm, so eventually we'll incorporate more but egg sales are horrible and not a money maker at all

I have been in multiple situations where I almost ran out of fuel. It’s easy to bring diesel to a tractor but it’s hard to run a extension cord very far.

you'd have to be a complete fool to run this out of juice...it goes into "limp mode" at 10% power remaining and you have power to drive it a mile or more back to the charging station....it's super easy and simple my friend

Curious if you can tell us in a future vid about the progression you've had on those fields you mowed today. How's the soil organic composition and ph coming along since you started on restoring them? Can you describe the technique you're using on these pre-grazing / hay fields other than what is obvious (mowing down to recycle organic matter into the soil)? Or is this just a matter of mow it and otherwise being fallow will heal the land?

I seen for the first time for me anyway a electric tanker truck. Volvo makes the one I seen to recharge their battery powered heavy equipment. Volvo now has a large dozer, wheel and track loader, haul truck, and now a large excavator. Batteries are the thing to watch over the next five years. NASA has already started licensing out their solid state battery design. It will probably take three to five years to develop the manufacturing techniques and factories to build them.

I agree with you that it’s is just a tool and a good one at that. I think the biggest problem electric stuff has is the politics behind it. With all the hate farmers have had pushed on them by regulators, their first reaction is to push back because they’ve seen what happens when you go along with the agenda.

In prior videos he claims that he does and shows the setup. But the number of panels, placement, and house battery size seem small to me for charging one of these. The only real downside to your battery operated tractor is not being able to swap out the battery with a charged one. Having several staged around the work area would increase productivity tremendously! The first tractor manufacturer that comes up with quick swap battery packs will be way ahead of the game. Think of what a Kubota M6, M7 or M8 will be able to do configured in such a fashion. Great page and good to see you are using it as a tool as it should be.

it's sissle twine and you shouldn't feed it to your cattle....even though it will break down, you don't want a knot of twine in your animals stomach. You're asking for trouble by leaving twine on a bale...although I've seen it done...why take the risk of harming an animal when it takes me 20 seconds to remove?

I'm curious about cold weather and the hydraulics on the Soletrac. I have to let my tractor warm up the fluid by idling for awhile in the winter so everything functions smoothly. How does the electric tractor do when it's really cold outside and you first start using it?

really cold outside in NC v/s where you are may be totally different, however...if you're warming your tractor up to create heat in the hydraulic system, I do believe we'd be creating the same heat by running our hydrualics....It's not sluggish when it's cool outside, but I havn't ran it in extreme cold yet

I'm in Missouri so it's usually in the 20's and 30's for lows, but sometimes below zero. Thanks for the info on this electric tractor. If I could justify the cost of buying one I probably would. I could do most of the things I need to do with an electric tractor without all the noise. The problem is haying and brush hogging. Maybe I'll ask Santa real nice this Christmas!

I love that you keep coming back to the EV Tractor videos, and every time you say the same things and every time the comments are all "bah humbug" about it. Like you said, It is just another tool in the tool box, just a thing to save on the cost of diesel, and since you have solar to offset the cost, it is the best green solution you can have on your farm. I don't understand why it has to be political for so many people, I look at it as if you can be more self sufficient by not having to rely on fuel and using your existing solar infrastructure, it makes you more self reliant and isn't that the spirit we all strive to have? I have both a gas (AC WD45) and a diesel (IHC 856) tractors, but if I had more solar panels (I have enough right now for my farmhouse to be completely off grid - not reliant on the way overpriced electrical grid here in Alberta), I would use one in a heart beat.

Hey Josh, I grew up working my parents' place, then as a young man worked on large operations. In Texas, where I'm from we always call a Farm a place that grew crops and a Ranch where livestock was raised. Why do you call your place a farm?

I have a general question. How long can the round bales be left in the field and still be considered good for feeding cows? My wife and have been seeing a lot of round bales left in the hayfields for long periods of time and we were wondering is that typical? We never saw square bales left out in the fields.

I asked my farmer neighbor about that. He told me that if the hay is rolled tight, it will prevent water penetration past the first few inches. Loosely rolled hay is another story. I guess you need to know your equipment pretty well. It's also important that the hay is dry when rolled, otherwise the entrapped moisture will encourage rot.

Keeping the mower on the back helps to counter balance the weight...so it doesn't get light. I guess as with any tractor you need to make sure you're properly ballasted (balanced)

I do understand "mow zone". My wife requires me to wear ear buds so I can hear when she calls. Yelling and waving her arms at me doesn't get my attention.

your wife needs to understand that unless OSHA approved...those earbuds are gonna contribute to her having to repeat herself over and over again talking to a half deaf husband because they're probably not adequate hearing protection....buy now...pay later lol.

You said it yourself: Psychological barrier. That's what all those people have against the electric tractor. And it's really interesting why people want to put a political tag on you. We really need to focus more on what right, and less on the "tags"!
