I put this straight in the bag with no practice for a quick last minute round. My fourth shot with it was a chip in from 35 yards for birdie. I’m not terrible at chipping but I found myself using my 9 iron around the green 4-5 times per round (my preferred bump and run club) and I had room in my bag so I gave it a shot. It’s become my favorite club. I think nearly all mid handicappers could benefit and definitely all high handicappers.

You stated it's a 42-degree iron, but it's actually 38.5 degrees loft with an 8-degree effective bounce. It can be ordered just like other Ping irons to change the lie using its color system. The black dot has a 70-degree lie. Depending on the color dot selected, it can add up to +5 or down -4 lie angle. The 35" length can be customized from -4" to +3" in 1/4" steps or furnished with a steel or graphite shaft. It also has three different grip thickness selections.

I am a terrible golfer, especially chipping, but still love to play and always look for ways to improve. Fortunately, I ran across a used Ping Chipr that was heavily discounted and in near perfect condition, great for me as again I'm not great and a Ping guy. Picked it up and I absolutely love it! Having played golf for roughly 5-6 years, one thing I have never done is chip in a shot. First day of practicing with this club I was able to chip in 3 shots! Here's what I don't agree with that a lot of these golf channels have said. They all mention this club isn't that great in unideal lies. FALSE!! At first it was not the best option for rougher lies. But, after about 10-15 attempts you find the sweet spot for hitting this club in rough spots and it still works tremendously well! If I can hit it great out of a bad position, shoot anyone should too.

If I’m short-sided I just open up my stance, swing along my toe line rather than target line (thus increasing the loft) and it’ll pop up and settle quicker. Also, before getting my chipper I was having to carry 4 or 5 different clubs from the cart to the green to make sure I had a club that was the best option. Now, it’s chipper and putter and go make whatever shot I need. Btw, I play my chipper with confidence up to 50 yards.

Most average golfers don't need 14 clubs, so there is room in their Bag for a ChipR. Considering that most of us weekend warriors haemorrhage shots around the Green putting this Club in play would seem like a no-brainer👍👍

Depends on your course mine is a inland links so lots of chipping and running so if you have 9 8 pw sw etc you have to adapt to all of them. With this club it’s just the one and I can chip . If I’m in the rough I will use a sw simple . So I would say it’s a good buy

Great video, I have one and while not a bad chipper I'm definitely better with it. I've used it as far out as 91 yards dropping it 11 feet from the hole.

Great video indeed. I chip pretty darn good with my gi set gap wedge. For a golfer like myself that currently has their chipping honed in I am curious if you think the chipr would result in even better results and more holed chips?

100% this club will improve your chipping as a whole. When you have a good lie and a decent amount of green to work with, it’s harder to not hit it close than it is hit it close… that’s truth!

Thanks! Great content. What do you think carry vs rollout for this club is? 3:1? 2:1? I like Paul Runyun's Rule of 12 for chipping. Do you think this is more like a 9iron,PW or SW when using that rule? Thanks again!

Could the different grip marks mean a longer/shorter chipping outcome? It would make sense to grip it higher for a longer chip, and lower for a shorter one, without changing the swing length.

Okay good with tight lies around the green, but what about in some thicker stuff (with a decent lie) near the green?

It’s good in good situations if you know what I mean mate. It’s a 7 iron loft pretty much so anywhere you wouldn’t play a 7 iron bump and run, you wouldn’t play this pretty much. But it works much better and consistently than the traditional 7 iron runner

Decelerates in the rough and duffs it. This club goes through the rough just fine. Even very well. The extra weight helps too. It is only limited by your imagination. Like all clubs really.
@thegolfsupply
@thegolfsupply Жыл бұрын
This is the problem, there isn’t enough loft to maintain speed in those shots
@jasonramsey8284
@jasonramsey8284 Жыл бұрын
@@thegolfsupply What does loft have to do with acceleration through the ball? Just choke up a hair. Move it back one ball in your stance and hit down on it like you would with any wedge. It will pop out of there. Easily. The distance is harder to control yes. But that’s the case with any lofted club out of heavy rough. 🙂

If you'd be in light rough, you probably wouldn't be able to putt and it's easier to chunk or blade the 9 iron...

I can't help but wonder why these clubs don't have 45° of loft instead of the 38 they do. I think the major problem with reviews from scratch golfers and pro's regarding a club like this is that the elite golfers have such higher expectations. It's ok saying you need lift and speed from the rough but for high handicappers that generally means it's flying through the back of the Green at knee height. Higher handicap golfers would be better off just learning to be realistic to their skill set and just accepting that getting the ball out of its crappy lie and on to the green is a win.
@thegolfsupply
@thegolfsupply Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t really matter if you are a scratch golfer or a high handicapper. In long rough situations and little green to work with, you need loft and speed regardless of your playing ability. This club can certainly cater to both markets. I did try to explain that I don’t feel you need to be a particular skill level to be able to get the most out of this club, but maybe again I was being naive to other peoples confidence levels and ability. Thanks for the feedback dude
@colonelangus3826
@colonelangus3826 Жыл бұрын
It also makes a wonderful punch out club. I’m able to keep the flight low enough to get under trees, hit the fairway and let it run out far more accurately than my 5 iron which I used to use in that scenario. If you get a little creative with it, it has more uses than just a fringe shot. Works great from the rough for me as long as I don’t have to carry a bunker.
@ericbradner6986
@ericbradner6986 3 күн бұрын
I totally agree that the ChipR’s 38.5 degrees of loft is too little. It’s just not a club that you have any chance of stopping if you’re short-sided. Cleveland makes their chipper 42 degrees, and it noticeably spins more and can stop quicker.
