Mentally, I know the kinds of people that it's directed towards. The one's who keep Pre-debut in their twitter name despite streaming because they do not have a model yet, even though if they did the bare minimum they could find simpler or cheaper alternatives. Such as becoming a pngtuber or learning vroid. But no, that would require work and creativity on their part, not to mention getting off twitter for more than an hour. They have to have a full 2D model with a hundred toggles & smartphone face tracking. Meanwhile, spiritually, I am looking for rope.

This explanation of events actually works well with anything else. If you're a nobody trying to make it big, it takes a lot of upfront cost, something that makes you better than the competition, and some talent or luck to establish a presence in the industry. I know lots of vtubers are popping up, but it obviously isn't an immediate success. Why watch this new vtuber when there's like half a hundred (more popular) others you can enjoy? If they find any success at all, they're competing with every other vtuber, youtuber, streamer, game, show, etc for somebody's time and money. I remember a while ago I stumbled upon a bunch of anime ASMR (if you know you know) channels and all of them had patreons or some way to contribute to them. I was considering one channel/patreon to subscribe to but I stopped because there's already like a dozen other channels on my screen, and probably hundreds I can find if I keep going. And they all do the same thing--anime ASMR. Was it really going to be worth my money subscribing to something that I can find a ship ton of (at similar or somewhat worse quality, but much higher quantity) for free? In my experience, the best chance you have at making a foothold is to do it better or do something nobody else is. At least if you're going independently. Otherwise you can associate yourself with a brand or company or person that already has an audience or customer base and that boosts your chances of success greatly. For example Hololive Vtubers that haven't debuted yet get plenty of attention and love before their debut. And after their debut it's up to them to be competitive, like an actual interesting and fun person to watch in streams. Though as far as I can tell Hololive does a great job finding and picking people who are entertaining to watch. But I'm not like a business expert or somewhat, so feel free to prove me wrong.
