People always ask me "what do you feed your plants!" I just mulch with wood chips and leaves. My soil was clay on one side and sandy loam on the other and both eat wood chips and a good 6" of leaf mulch twice a year, I rake up a few neighbours oak leaves so it doesn't cost me.

Hi James, I just started watching your videos a month ago! Very informative and entertaining-- I have learned a lot from you. I had a garden helper too, (my Corgi, who sadly passed away last summer). I called her my "garden inspector," with a special interest in sugar snap peas. She is greatly missed. I have a different method fot germinating carrot seeds. I live in Palmer, Alaska, home of world record giant vegetables, fertile glacial soil and land of the midnight sun. The extra long days impart a special sweetness to carrots and many other vegetables. Because our climate is semi-arid, we have to be extra careful about keeping seeds from drying out, especially carrot seeds. I have had success covering my newly planted and watered carrot seeds tightly with plastic, stapling it tight to my raised beds. Not only does this encouage seedlings to sprout twice as fast, it keeps moose from trodding through it, as well! (They love walking through freshly dug soil.) As soon as most of the carrots have sprouted, I remove the plastic and put stakes around, again, to discourage moose. Last fall I harvested 300 (mostly enormous) carrots from four 2 × 6 raised beds!

I Love that Tuck picks his own carrots. I've got a Husky that picks and eats my tomatoes, she only picks the ripe ones. Last year I had four sweetie pepper plants that I was allowing the peppers to mature on, one morning I walked out onto my deck to find a perfect pile of peppers. The little Angel had picked ALL of my sweetie peppers that were ripe and left them in a perfect pile for me. ( I wanted to strangle the darling). Which is amazing cuz she loves peppers but she didn't eat them until I said she could. Anyway, maybe she knew better than I that they were ripe. You've got a great gardening buddy there in tuck. Good luck.

The first year I grew cherry bell radishes, just because I liked how the flowers looked, I didnt pick them and let them grow. To my surprise, they grew pea pods. So tasty. I like the pods better than the radishes.

I think the radish seeds pods are a new 'thing'. In the last year I've seen a lot of recipes for them. I've never tried them, so I'm interested to hear that you liked them better than the radishes.

I never heard of radish seed pods! I guess they grow if you leave some plants alone to flower and grow past 1 month. I am growing Early Scarlet Globe Radishes for 1st time and will have to try this! I bought my radish packs at Dollar Tree for 4 packs for $1 and almost every planted seed sprouted!

Tuck planting a monkey seed has been the highlight of a pretty rough day. Thank you always giving so much positivity! My 6 year old granddaughter and I use the info you're sharing to feed us and as many neighbors as we can! We have a Pomeranian. Plenty of guarding, but he's over the top on digging in the wood chips and our fresh soil! Maybe he will learn from watching Tuck!

I’ve planted 2 sour would trees for bees, 2 figs and Li and Lang Jujube trees. And have seeds ready for spring with really diff veggies. Can’t wait to “walk” to the grocery store for food this year. LOL!!!!

Great video! I love growing carrots! I live in Fl so we can grow a Lot all year long. My dog does the same thing Lol. I don't use chemical pesticide either. My garden actually has peppers growing right now, green beans, herbs, radish, watermelon, peas, blueberries, blackberries, lettuce and much more.. I'm hoping to get some support, to be able to donate most of what I grow to people in need. It's a dream I've been working hard to achieve along with homesteading of course! I want a bee hive too!

I mentioned it in the video where I showed how I planted them with the board, I linked it in the description. But I suggest checking after about 4 days or so, and continuing to do so every day after that. You want to take the board off once you see some popping up, cause once you see a few up they should all be germinated and the others just about to wake up 😁
