Regarding sound trick at around 6:30 did you know hoofbeats were often added where horses were used on sand and dirt. Normally sand and dirt made very little sound when trodden on by horses, but many people aren't used to not hearing horses' hoofbeat so the sound were added. Some sounds were added intentionally to appeal to audience even if they were not realistic.

11:08 That's pretty cool and genius how they created cloud effects before CGI was around.
@Bunny99s6 ай бұрын
Right. Even in early SciFi series like the german "Raumpatrouille" (which had only 7 episodes in 1966) they used many mundane tricks to create quite stunning effects for the time. For example for laser gun shots shey literally used a black painted wooden wall with a horizontal slit in it and they filmed the wall while someone with a light walked behind it. This underexposed shot was simply superimposed on the actual movie to add in the "flying laser bullet". People were really creative at the time. I think we lost a lot of that creativity to CGI and as a result the creativity as a whole seems to drop. Still we live in amazing times now and it was amazing back then, just quite different :)

Practical effects for the win! The same reasons that the Jurassic Park dinosaurs look so good 30+ years later. All of them - in shots where the dino(s) were in proximity to actors - were made with practical effects (puppetry, animatronics, etc). Only the mass scenes like the herd of Gallimimus (yeah, I had to look that name up lol) had CGI, and that was just to create volume of creatures in the background.

For Mourning Myrtle they took an older actress for a very different reason: at 37'ish, you don't change a lot any more. Certainly not so much that it cannot be fixed by makeup. Ghosts don't grow older, you know. And she had to show up in more than just one film.
@XLindsLuvsPinkX2 жыл бұрын
*Moaning Myrtle was played by Shirley Henderson, and this is what is written in an article: “Henderson has her own theory as to why she was cast. Talking to The Telegraph, she said of Myrtle, “She’s a multifaceted character; lots of mood swings and simmering emotions. Maybe that’s why they chose an adult rather than an actual 14-year-old.” So even she isn’t completely sure why they picked her. You’re right that makeup and cgi can really change an appearance. I think they just really liked her for the roll because of her voice, she’s pretty well known, and very talented.

There's a mistake in the original cut of Titanic. In the scene where Jack and Rose run onto deck to see the boats are gone, there's a spot in the top left corner where you can briefly see the nearby city lights where the sinking sequences were filmed.

Every movie has some bloopers. In the 1950's version of The Ten Commandments for example the old blind man is wearing a wrist watch. lol. More recently in Spy Kids there is a scene where Juni has a handcuff on one wrist that connects a chain to a small metal box. He has no key but the handcuff jumps from one wrist to the other when the camera angle changes. :)

You will find lots of actors/actresses in most of the Chinese dramas share the same voices, because the shows are rarely voiced by their own actors and actresses for the purpose of "cost saving." The voices are added later by professional voice actors/actresses, which often times audiences find the expressions and lip movements on the screen do not align with the voices. In certain extreme cases some actors/actresses would speak random words/phrases instead of acting as if they are voicing
@autumnrain2495 ай бұрын
Chinese dramas are usually dubbed but not for cost saving. It's done because the actors have regional accents that don't suit the character or speak different dialects, so voice actors who speak Standard Mandarin are used. You can see this sometimes in old dramas when some actors' mouth movements don't match what they're saying at all because they're actually reading their lines in Cantonese.
@Rando19752 ай бұрын
Not just Chinese dramas. The wuxia (swordplay) and kung fu films were often shot without sync sound and everything was added later by Foley artists and voice dubbers. There would be a Mandarin dubbed version for the mainland and a Cantonese dub for Hong Kong. And because they would often have actors speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Korean, Japanese, etc. the actors would often speak their native language and listen for a cue (often the last word of a sentence from another actor), to say their line. Italian movies would often do it too. And sometimes movies were shot without sound because of an outdoor location would have too much noise.
@UserName-gk8ew3 жыл бұрын
another sound that keeps getting used over and over again is that baby noise, normally when the dad is rushing to see his baby being born, and then just before he arrives at wherever the mom is, you hear the baby give that infamous cry, and he walks slowly over to a smiling mother and her kid. Yeah, there's a huge amount of non-film canon with all kinds of lightsabers that existed long before the prequels came out. Most of it just linked colors to aesthetic choices, then a couple things tried to tie it into actual force powers. Lucas always seemed very intent on separating light side/dark side into good vs evil, so I was a bit surprised when he let the purple lightsaber in the movie, but it wasn't exactly original to the movie.

@bradr25672 жыл бұрын
The snyder cut made a terrible movie decent. The problem with justice league is they rushed and forced everything. Where as marvel took the time to properly set everything up, and slowly built up to the avengers, justice league was rushed and forced in everyway. Plagued with bad writing and horrible cgi, superman's upper lip anyone, they tried to cram several backstories into the movie as well as tried to set up an overarching threat. It was way too much for a single movie, which is why the snyder cut makes it better, as it is extended and stretched out more, including important scenes.

Only issue I've ever had with the older actors as young characters is when they have a 25 year old actress play a 15 year old girl, but hypersexualize her as if the character is 25. Yes, the actress is 25, but she's a 15 year old character, they wouldn't treat a 15 year old actress that way without going to jail. They also use older actors to play young characters because of child labor laws. Kids can only be on set for X amount of hours per day and certain times during the day, plus there also needs to be an educator on site to teach the child actors if they're unable to attend regular schools, not to mention having a parent or guardian around for legal matters like contracts. Kids in movies/TV shows can sometimes make the production longer or more expensive, so young looking adults to play teenagers makes sense, you have to suspend your beliefs.
@agirlisnoone59532 жыл бұрын

My cousin Stan Winston did the Jurassic Parks he also did aliens terminators all of the big films. He was great at animatronics and puppetry. He passed away for too young. As far as I know his workers are still doing a Facebook special effects class.

The age thing is common enough that I remember it being specifically noted as unusual that they DIDN'T do that in *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*. That's also why that movie was shot in chronological order (also unusual), so the kids' growth over the course of the movie would look natural

Having lived in LA, the age of actors also has to do with laws, since younger the X amount of years can only work for lower hourse, when if they are ovobe 18yrs old, they can be there all day and night because of child protection matters. Plus acbe is a pain for roles and they tend to film on different days many times for just one scene, so the actor should not change much

18:54 - honestly, difference between "purple" lightsaber and "whitish blue" is barely noticeable. Green ones standout.
@maxrander01013 жыл бұрын
the lightsaber being blue green or red in star wars was never changed due to one actor there was always many colors in the past of the story the reason we see more blue and green is they belong to jedi that were more active in the galaxy due to their roles within the order and the sith favored red

You should make a video of the worst movie background effects, like for example Green Hornet when the characters were fighting inside mansion they used a dirt bike against each other that sounded like a leaf blower.

I ALWAYS watch for mistakes in films like a sound boom dropping into a scene, a clothing error, set differences ect. I try to find at least one in every movie or TV show.

That scream was a staple in old westerns, esp. Rawhide. It's been beat to the point of annoyance. over the years.

Interesting that it would be used in Rawhide considering Sheb Wooley was part of the regular cast.
