I went on holiday in South Africa in 2019 i bought this bike the next day after landing at the airport in Johannesburg. I traveled thousands of miles on that motorcycle with about 70 pounds of luggage on it and myself being 5-10 & 190 at the time going all over the country. It was fantastic! BMW bought it back from me at very good price when I left back to USA. I will always remember that bike and that truly amazing experience I was blessed with.

BMW designed this bike for a niche market. In Germany, from 16-18 years old, you can only ride a scooter. When you turn 18, you can buy up to a 46 hp bike (sub 400cc). You have to be 24 and ride for two years at sub 400cc to get anything larger. They also have rules for passengers and roads that can be ridden. In Japan, you have to license and ride a sub 400 for two years before you can advance. Then take a second test for anything 400c+. Other Asian or European countries may have similar motor restrictions. In the US there are none that I am aware of. This bike fills the sub 400cc class for BMW. So it makes it easier if a rider has one to advance them to another BMW instead of some Asian bike they have been riding. I "graduated" at 64 years old from a Suzuki 750. I am very happy with the G310R.

For info: This bike has been available in the UK since 2017. It goes surprisingly well so long as you make good use of the revs, and if you don’t, it’ll stall at every opportunity, to the point of it being downright dangerous. Additionally, each time it stalls, there is an odd (again dangerous) delay between pressing the starter button and the bike firing into life. Perhaps no surprise but, BMW’s service costs are eye-watering, even for the initial 300 mile oil-change. The side stand makes the bike lean at a worrying angle (no main stand as standard) and the foot pad on the side stand is far too small, leaving the bike liable to sink into soft ground. MPG is consistently excellent and the overall build quality appears reasonable - apart from the floppy front mudguard which developed stress cracks within a year. Oh, and the engine sounds like a bag of spanners on start-up. No seriously... it IS majorly embarrassing to listen to! Think sewing machine with big-end bearing failure.
@brianparboy86612 жыл бұрын
looking at my first bike, just took the CHP moto class--they let me use one of these bikes---what a frustrating bike to start out on---everyone in the class was stalling hard unsure of the revs as beginners...it felt unsafe...love the handling--lots of vibration for this small of an engine--you are spot on Sir!

Starting in 2021, the BMW 310 got a slipper clutch and ride-by-wire, making it nearly stall proof. I do the very minimum and easy to do maintenance myself so dealer service fees don't bother me. This inexpensive bike has a full three year factory warranty which I never needed on my 2019 G310GS.

So I knew how to ride when I got on the the 305, it just felt like a heavy dirt bike. This little 34hp BMW, 70+ mpg, has got to be great in dealing with city traffic! My car is an older BMW 318i with a 1.8 litter. 4cyl. Yeah, I know Harley and Honda both make motorcycles with comparable size motors. However, lots of fun to drive, twisty roads and city traffic, great mpg, and I can put the top down in good weather. From the factory 135hp in a GVW of 2,500lbs. Both selling well here. Apache version though looks better and in my opinion drives better. More of a rush than BMW and a 'racing bike' if u can call it that. But then ask how many here in India dream of owning a BMW here.... 95% hands will shoot up! The brand's appeal is awesome.

I bought it late October, just before the 2021 models were shipping, so BMW knocked off $1000 and the dealer knocked off $400 and I got it for $4920 out the door, which was less than the used versions with 5,000 miles, and I got the full factory warranty, which I haven't used in the first two years. I wish BMW made an Adventure version with a 5-6 gallon fuel tank, tall adjustable windshield, and maybe upgraded suspension. Really, the fuel capacity is the only thing I can't upgrade in the after market, although it would be nice to have fully adjustable suspension without buying the stock BMW suspension and replacing it.

Both weigh about the same and not much more than BMW 310. The 690 is awesome. (around 400lbs?) New Ducati Monster is supposed to weight about 400. Back when the RD350 two strokes were marvelous. What would you choose if the price was the same and why, the g310r or duke 390?
@han12184 жыл бұрын
I've been looking at both recently, and from the reviews I see a pattern: BMW pros: - has more low end torque - better suspension for off roading than KTM - more comfy seat - less vibrations (until you go super fast) KTM pros: - higher displacement, more power, more hp and torque in general - although assembled in India, engine is made in Austria (by KTM), not like BMW engine made in India by TVS - higher top speed, more highway passing power - parts are probably cheaper to replace (it's very popular in India) To me the BMW looks better and seems better offroad, but I'm inclined towards the KTM because from many motorcycle people that I talked to, the BMW engine is too small and I will want to upgrade after a couple months. The KTM has an extra 10 hp (43 vs 33), which I'm told makes a big difference for a motorcycle. Reliability-wise, I stumbled on a couple BMW users (in YT comment sections) had some leaks after 1000 miles of riding, and some KTM users that had over heating problems, so I'm not sure what to believe there... EDIT: my apologies, but I thought you were talking about the adventure models. If it's engine related, same things apply, because they use the same engines in their regular and adventure models.

ChamanDeep S Khokher I agree with you,it’s all about pose factor and believe me people on 1000cc + motorbikes have less fun on the type of roads that most people want to ride bikes, as they are to heavy and have to much power,give me a smaller cc bike and a road with lots of bends any day.there is no fun in going flat out on a straight road.

I think the Honda cb300 is waaaay to small. Saw it last weekend and compared the seat height to my g310r and the difference is huge. I could never comfortably ride the cb300 so it was no opportunity for me. I also rode the grom as I learned driving and I wouldn’t say it’s similar. These are two completely different building styles. The g310r is a roadster, the cb300 is a Roadster for small people and the grom... the grom is just a class for itself😂 it’s a pretty fun bike. Anywhere between naked bike and supermoto. But it was horrible to ride because I’m 1,93m

@@sergeant_dornan_ It’s my first bike and I can honestly say that it has been fantastic to learn on. It has never intimidated me even on my first ride. The gearing is smooth, stock seat is surprisingly very comfortable and it gets 70 mpg as a commuter. The downside is that…. It doesn’t scare me enough. I am 1k miles in and I already feel that need for more speed, primarily for highway cruising. It is comfortable to cruise up until about 65-70 which is where it gets very vibey and sketchy feeling on the highway. For a city commuter though, it is fantastic and I think it might be the best looking bike in its class. I may even keep it and get another bike because it is so lightweight and fun to flick through turns.
@lhs59032 жыл бұрын
Everyone saying it's because it's a beginner's bike. You have no idea the absurd cost of a motorcycle outside the US and Europe. 400cc motorcycles in my country (Brazil) are already considered high cylinder motorcycles, if you receive a regular salary, the most you will be able to acquire will be a FZ25, or Twister 250. So a motorcycle like the BMW G310R is a way for drivers to buy a BMW at a more reasonable cost.
