All of the cons are fixed as of the facelift - very less vibrations now - all Led lights - ride by wire allows for a very short throttle pull so at 7k rpm it doesn't feel like its on full revs now - with glide thru technology (gtt) u cannot physically stall the bike it automatically increases its revs and acts like a crawl mode in first 3 gears - the gearing is also engineered better this time

I LOVE my 2018 G310R! I have had it for 14 months. This review is SPOT on with my experience. I commute 44 miles round trip 5 days a week, mainly back roads. For that it is perfect. His evaluation at the end is true in my case as well. City riding=GREAT, long highway travel=not enough power band. Keep in mind, it IS a 313cc single engine bike. After riding others in that class, it is the best for me.

@@britishlifestyle3432 yes, stalling you overcome by being aware you might do it, vibration you might like it or not. I've checked the Duke that everyone was praising, I wanted to check Honda, but it was unavailable at local dealership and I've checked BMW only because I've just got my license and wanted to have a ride while knowing it has less power than KTM and Honda. And I've sat on it and it felt super comfy, I've driven it and it felt slower than the Duke, but again more comfy. And BMW had all paperwork done quickly, best price, voucher, financing (leasing + insurance). I'm happy I've got it

Great review. I have a G310R 2022 and most of the things mentioned in the review is still valid for the current model. In Japan where speed limit on the highway is mostly 80-100km/h, this bike is not only a great commuter but also quite enough for the highway too, especially in big metropolis like Tokyo or Osaka.

Spot on comments. I have ridden both the R and the GS. Great quality, ride, comfort, economy. But this is a town and country lane machine at which it a pleasure to ride. It takes me and the wife with no effort but this is only a 310cc machine and you have to repspect that. D3S's reports on this bike really sum it up. Great site. Bob.

almost 2024... and the pretty imminent introduction of lowering speed limits here in UK.... these smaller bikes will become a LOT more popular.. the game has changed.. NOBODY needs 200bhp superbike anymore..too many camera's.. too much traffic.. time to enjoy the ride like it used to be.. before the obsession with Speed .. the small bike is the new BIG bike perhaps..?

I've had this bike for a little over a year and I have experienced exactly the same as you described in your video. I don't have the need to take mine on the highway and that's important because at an average speed of 75mph around here, it wouldn't be what I'd consider to be safe. That said, if I lived in LA where there's always traffic, it would be a fantastic commuter bike because of how light and nimble it is (perfect for lane splitting below 65mph). Thanks for this video!

I use my 2023 310R for local commutes and really like the light weight and maneuverability. What irks me is the very notchy shifts. I did change the front sprocket and went up one tooth. I have to admit it makes very little difference in performance. I haven’t experienced any problems with stalling on takeoffs.

I also have this bike. I LOVE it for the city...not so much for speeds over 100kph. Yes, agree on the vibrations and lack of power on highways. Not enough power for passing when necessary. Yes, agree on the stalling...BUT after a couple of years and servicing...doesn't happen anymore. It used to drop into N out of the blue. That was frustrating. Yes, I'm always double checking before stopping to make sure it is actually in 1st gear. But again, I LOVE it for the city! Great review. Bang on.

This bike is amazing for urban street, mountain road tracks and highway, you have enough power and speed to go secure and follows the highest speed alowed by law, it’s a pleasure to ride this lady with a low comsuption in terms of petrol… and the autor forget that this is single piston and all bike with single pistons have more vibrations, but a big more torque that is what is needed for urban ride

I bought one and love it to bits and use it for pleasure and the odd 100mile plus journeys but then I do very little motorway travel mainly 'A' and 'B' class roads using anything up to 7000rpm with occasional 'squirts' for overtaking but he's quite right after that rev. position the motor feels harsh. 7000rpm equates to roughly 70mph which presents me with no problems as it's the legal limit in the UK. Were I contemplating regular Motorway cruising at the limit or 'slightly' more I would not have bought one in the first place, the engine capacity is really too little after all it's pretty much an 'overblown' 250 four-stroke single, a 500/650 would be far more appropriate. I much appreciate a reasoned, unbiased, 'bum on the seat' evaluation. Thank you sir you've done a fine job.

Thank you for this honest review, here in India the G310R has gone through a recent big change due to the BS6 emission norms. that have been implied. the BS6 version has got some much better updates and in more promising as they have now had a slipper clutch and ride by wire introduced to it along with all LED headlamps, the vibrations as mentioned by BMW are now reduced but not sure how much in comparison, but the biggest leap taken is dropping its price here in India from a 2.99Lac to a 2.5Lac which is about a 50k cheaper and brings it to a similar pricing to a Duke 390 in India, an aggressive change lets see how this goes!

7k rpm, not a problem, when you ride at lower rpm. Swap sprockets. You should be able to get 30% lower rpm with sprockets for 20mph lower top speed. Passenger pegs, I don't have a passenger. Many motorcycles have this 1st gear quirk. Just keep your foot on 1st gear downshift, while you release the throttle.

Hey! Nice Video, very informative. I want to get BMW G310R as my first starter bike and use it for everyday driving to university and in the city. I live in Germany and I think the bike is very cool looking and economical. But heres my question now: My hometown is 350km away from where I live now and I want to visit my family once a month or once every two months and I want to know if this is possible with this bike or if I should take the train? (of course I would do 1 or 2 stops on my way) I would prefer to drive on the German Highway (Autobahn) at speeds between 110 and 130km/h

Hi mate, yeah as a 310R owner I can't speak highly enough of this bike (including on racetracks, she is very smooth and responsive!) especially being on the shorter side it fits really well ergonomically and is super comfortable. I also commute around and do long trips throughout the year (300 km usually in a day), so I got a windscreen and hand guards as well, which work great! But yes there are some slight vibrations at higher speed including buzzyness from the engine (you could sacrifice a bit of low end responsiveness for a smoother top end (I am about to change the rear sproket size by a tooth to reduce engine rpm at higher speeds and reduce the serverity of the single cylinder engine braking in the lower gears). Having said that tho, a bike that handles this smooth and is very forgiving, it is perfect to learn on to easily build confidence. Nothing really competes with it at this side of 500cc. If you are able to go straight to a larger bike, go for it if you are allowed to. Hope this helps and that you find a bike that suits. All the best with it :)

"Riding on the edge" revving at 7 to 8k?? Nah that is the bike's sweet spot. I own a 2018 (best year considering the on-the-fly disengagement of the ABS to kick the back tire off road). At that rev you are sure to flush the carbon from the cylinders and pistons and even tho there is a bit of vibration it is not fatigue causing. Perfect light bike to flick on the snakes, muscle and spin on the dirt and just zip thru traffic downtown. Thanks BMW for the perfect low budget bike.

Thanks for the comments, its not a major issue and a good bike. Try several bikes and see what you like best

D3Sshooter you are awesome for responding to fan posts. Unfortunately possibility of death on a false neutral situation is no small issue for me. Unless there has been a proven mechanical solution.

What did you upgrade to? This bike would be perfect if it was 400cc and they managed the vibrations a bit more.. everyone I watch speaks about the vibrations Nonetheless I'm going for it as soon as I can. Got my eyes on a 2019 model with 3500km on the clock

Hi, I want to replace the headlamp of my 310r with a round one.. Was thinking with the new Honda 150ss. I saw in ur last video that you have a garage of your own. Will you be able to suggest if that's possible?
@D3Sshooter4 жыл бұрын
Yep that is all possible, as long as the power consumption is about the same

Danke für das informative Video . Wurde das Problem mit der falschen Gang-anzeige gelöst? Bei mir zeigt das Display "N", es ist aber ein Gang drin. Dies führt zu gefährlichen Situationrn!

Thank you for a great review, and in general for very, very good and inspirering videos. I had the g310gs. In general I think you get what you pay for +a bit more compared to direct competition. However I sold my bike after just one year and 3500km. The reasons: - the bike is vibrating a lot in a numbing way. 20 mins of driving and my feet would be asleep. My bum sould be halfway asleep, as well. This already at 80 kmph. I would never consider taking it on longer trips than 100km and not on motorways, as it would be very tolling. - Stalling. I have driven many bikes, easy and difficult ones. Including a lot on bikes more than 70 years old, some even with foot clutches. Hardly ever have I stalled. On the BMW I stalled constantly. Very frustrating in city driving. And it stalls without " warning", e. g. You have a difficult time feeling the engine. - Difficult cold start under 10 degrees celcius. I mean, very difficult when around 0 as to the point that you should plan ahead for starting it. - Uneasyness above 100 kmph. It just doesn't like higher speeds. - Very short fist gear to the point where City stop-start gets annoing as you will have to rev it like a loonatic. - Heavy diving when breaking, to the point where an unexperienced driver would get insecure. - 2 recalls within 1 year (sidestand and brakes) And then a strange goofy thing, not really a disqualifying one, but the clock was completely useless at holding time. Loosing up to 5 mins a week. I mean how is it possible to make a digital clock in 2018/19 that cannot hold time? My old manual omega from 1968 hold better time 😂 Would I recommend the bike? No, not at all. For the money of a new one, buy a used bigger bike instead.

Thanks for the comments, and indeed well know aspects. It is still a city bike and a good starter bike

issues mentioned are spot on. i still have my 310gs. by now, i have gotten used to stalling and found a way to not stall anymore. Rest of the issues still exist and additionally, the headlight wobble when going through speed breakers or undulations.

Can you swap out the handgrips to mitigate vibrations to hands? Like soft pillow type grips
@D3Sshooter4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments,, yes you can , in fact you can get gaters that go over it. I also noticed that the more recent model has a far better anti vibration arrangement. Much improved

Very nice Review. However, I like to point out not every country has a Speed limit of 120kph. Here in Australia, it is 100kph with some 110kph freeways. Having said that in a 100kph zone you could sit at 95kkph well within the bikes capabilities. For me the bike would be a great bike in City traffic and would be more than capable on longer rides every so often. In your case if you travel 100kms one way everyday then a bigger bike would be a good idea. Thanks for the review :)
