I also need to reemphasize that even if you aren't crashing yet. If you have a 13th or 14th gen intel cpu (sku 14xxx or 13xxx), you will start crashing soon if you have not updated your bios yet. This isn't a click bait video. It's a serious issue of a well documented defect that requires a bios update to address or your cpu might literally become a paper weight that needs to be RMA'd. Please take this PSA seriously and share it to others you know in WoW community. Also seeing a few AMD users report similar issues too. Guess the general PSA is to always update bios and drivers of your system. (But especially if using intel because they don't have it together lately.)
@Amberion3 күн бұрын
He's right. Also, if it's progressed to the point where you are crashing often, and you have narrowed it down to the CPU, the problem is irreversible since the damage is caused by electromigration(destruction of the circuit pathways due to too much electricity flowing through them).

This happened to me. I bought a PC a couple months ago with i9 14900KF and my WoW Classic would constantly crash. My temporal solution was using Intel Extreme Tuning and limiting the performance and efficient cores. That stopped crashes, but it was a matter of time till my PC (after a Windows update) would get stuck in a black screen whenever I tried booting my PC and I would get constant BSODs whenever I would try reinstalling Windows. I used the warranty and they replaced the cooler and the processor. Now I have the same processor but brand new, and I have no issues so far. My BIOS update is from August tho, so maybe I should update to the October one. Aside from WoW crashes, I also had random BSODs, Firefox tab crashes and very high CPU temperatures.

Thank you for this. I have had this crash for awhile now, and this is the first video I have found that clearly explained it. Updating my BIOS now and hoping the chip isn’t damaged.

I had a question about cpu affinity if you dont mind : i searched a bit and found out you could potentially gain performance from optimizing cpu affinity (which cores are assigned to which process) I dont know if its worth a video but are there things you know as a dev about these? (I run on linux and I've heard about cron/taskset or process lasso on windows tools but I'm a newbie)
@mysticalos2 күн бұрын
i think this only really helps if certain cores turbo higher than others. i haven’t needed to do much with that since macos already uses best core for task. i think windows 11 is supposed to as well. especially with most recent windows 11 update which improved that on amd chips. i suppose where affinity more useful is windows 10 users or 11 users not current.

looks like that diagnostic tool is for PC/windows. is this intel issue affecting other hardware? i didn't see that on the diagnostic tool
@mysticalos3 күн бұрын
yeah it’s a windows tool. intel 13th and 14th gen never came to mac. pretty much only found in windows pcs. although i guess technically linux too but those can still get a bios update.
@octavian_882 күн бұрын
Seems intel’s path down is certain
@mysticalos2 күн бұрын
Yeah they are not on a good path. And their latest cpu the 265k actually failed to even achieve good performance. it was lower than previous gen cpus. probably cause they were so afraid of it also burning itself up they underclocked it. A big fiasco over there. Honestly my prediction is this. AMD will stay leader in x86 for a while longer. But once nvdia puts out an arm based cpu scaled up well beyond snapdragon arm cpus, it'll crush x86 once and for all. we've seen what's possible with apple silicon and arm and nvidia knows this too. so does qualcomm, but quallcomm is too far behind apple. But nvidia on other hand has resources and engineering to match or even exceed apple and that's gonna knock everyone else out of competition
@musser66663 күн бұрын
If its already crashing its too late. The microcode update wont un-cook your cpu. The update prevents the damage happening, if the damage has already happened then the only option is RMA
@mysticalos3 күн бұрын
Fairly accurate, but they still won't RMA without the bios update. they will literally say 'do the update first and recheck" I say as much in video
@iyaramonk3 күн бұрын
I think if you bought the Intels inside a certain timeframe, the damage is already done and it should be RMA'd. If you are in doubt, contact the place you bought it.
@mysticalos3 күн бұрын
Correct. but the RMA process generally goes like this "have you tried bios update yet? if not, do that first" followed by "you have latest bios update and still crashing? ok we'll RMA it" so even ones that are already bricked. they want the update installed and tested first.
@teapea81843 күн бұрын
It's not a bad bios it's a design flaw with the CPUs. Eventually they are going to degrade, the newer BIOS just migitates it, but the damage is already done if it's crashing, your only hope is to undervolt and hope it still will run. RMA will give you few years with the new CPU, but it will likely just happen again at some point.
@mysticalos3 күн бұрын
Correct. bios update doesn't undo damage. just prevents it from happening IF it hasn't already happened. it'll slow degredation but in general these are not well made cpus. I recommend in video that they do bios update anyways cause they'll ask for that during RMA. and if issue goes away then that's fine too. Means it wasn't too far gone yet (but probably still will be down the line). but once bios update is installed. they'll authorize RMA if issues still occur

People who don't know the wiser, yes. intel has been behind and kinda a dumpster fire for a few years now. To point they finally gave up with their own refinement process and finally using superior TSMC process on raptor lake (their next chips)

have amd 3700x and i've had this issue numerous times since about a week. I've just research google a bit because outside of "delete your WTF" from blizzard, i could not find anything relevant. So i dont remember it clearly atm, i'll edit my post later but after deleting the cash, updating CPU/GPU and doing PC maintenance, i havent crashed since 2days.. tho i dont think this is the end of it Also i've seen topics discussing some of the latest integrated gaphic options at the very end of options. They apparently creates issues (optional GPU features, async resource creation, multithreaded rendering and advanced work submit)
@mysticalos3 күн бұрын
Those optional graphics options have been enabled since bfa, they aren't knew they were just split out to give more control over certain drivers and situations where some of them MIGHT cause issues (but in general they should stay enabled and instead you just update your drivers or bios to ones that don't have issues with those options as they all boost performance). As for your crashes, yeah it's entirely possible it can also be caused by diff issues than one described. but the intel one def causes it. and it sounds like you updating your cpu or gpu drivers or bios also fixed it for your AMD so that's good. The TL/DR of it is definitely (always update your drivers and bios). :D
