So I don't race, but I love to watch and your videos make watching racing more interesting because now I know what is going on! So I have a question that I think I have the answer to. You got a flat, in the time you fixed it the race did a lap and you jumped on the back of the peloton, does that mean that you don't have to make up that lap you just have to start at the back and work your way back up? Thanks for clarifying and I love the videos. Maybe someday I will race!

I had the exact same question! Love your channel and thanks for educating me in bike race strategy!

You're allowed a free lap for crashes or mechanicals out of your control, most common is a flat.

Watch the Thirsty Bear rider's hip in the opening shot (0:05). His hip tilts everytime the left leg goes on the downstroke. Would that be a saddle that's too high? It reminds me of the bikefitting series Cam Nicholls made with Neil. He had the same tilt in his pelvis before the bike fit.

He definitely has a lot of body movement going but his knee angle doesn’t look like he overstretches on the downstroke. But yeah, probably couple mm too high
@anoopsinghtanda3 жыл бұрын
Just from external obs - Looks like left leg is a fair amount shorter, his knee tracks out at the bottom and it looks like he is reaching for the bottom of the pedal stroke (leg length shim territory), his right leg looks smooth and strong all the way through the stroke. Or maybe that is one hefty left hip impingement. Or he can just crank more watts like that. Either way, the dude can push the watts to stay in the bunch, thats pretty impressive

Like others have said, you're allowed a free lap for crashes or mechanicals out of your control, most common is a flat. It's not an advantage despite the word 'free' in the name lol. they let you in at the back of the peloton, from a standing start, hurts like hell, and sometimes the breakaway gets away in the meantime like in this case.

I get the idea of not chasing your teammate, but what if you think your teammate in the front is not capable of winning a sprint from that group?
@jessejamesv3 жыл бұрын
I think that's getting too cute as a basic rule. Your teammate should know their capabilities, and if they're really a weak sprinter, they should do less work in the break. Get sick of putting someone in breaks and having a shot at the podium first before you overthink it.
@paulgraf52593 жыл бұрын
Wait for another team to try and bridge then wheel suck across?
@NorCalCycling3 жыл бұрын
exactly, your teammate should know his/her own capabilities in the break, if they don't like their chances and think the team can do better if the break gets caught, they should stop working in the break. if teammates are chasing behind then everybody gets tired except the competition.
