This 2007 Jaguar XK (x150) is an absolute bargain, for less than the cost of the cheapest supermini I now have a luxurious 4.2L V8. BUT is there a different price to pay for buying such a cheap high end luxury car?

I've had my 07 XK Coupe for 12 years (134k miles) and it's the best car I've ever owned. There is a lot of life left in your XK! I've also got a new to me 2006 XJ8L with 202k miles on it and it is actually in pretty decent shape too. My experience with Jaguars has been great, I'll always have one.

Good choice! I would have looked for a XKR instead (basically because I am driving an XJR) but these engines are bulletproof. My car just completed 300.000 km (186.000 mls) without any issue. The XK looks stunning and will be a very good daily driver. So congratulations again.

@@EdgyNumber1Yes. The early ones with plastic chain tensioners and Nikasil cylinder liners had issues. However, my 1998 XJ had these and I had it for twenty one years, daily driver for many years. Still going strong when I traded it in for a 2019 fPace SVR. Reveals the bumps more on rough roads, which is when I miss the XJ, but awesome acceleration, great roadholding and nice interior, I love it. Also, sometimes exceeds 30mpg on a long run, the XJ never did better than 27.

Hi Jack, I am new to your channel and binge-watched a number of your videos this weekend. After watching your video on the previous gen XKR, I was hoping you would try the more modern X150. Lo and behold, today I see you’ve gone and bought one! I’m blown away. Congrats! I have been on a similar journey with mine. I bought my XK about 2 years ago from a medical doctor. Doctors care about people and not about cars. So mine needed plenty of TLC. In fact, I dropped my car off at a panelbeater this morning to have the bonnet and front bumper resprayed. My car comes from a part of the country where the roads are particularly bad. So I too have some nasty stone chips that have been bugging me for some time. Apart from the battery and aircon, my issues have been mainly cosmetic. Cuts in the seats, worn bolsters, sagging roof lining, scratches, dents, stone chips, all 4 rims were buckled and one was even cracked. I also only got one key with the car. You don’t want to know what Jaguar charges for a replacement. Anyway, I’ve managed to resolve all those issues. Your XK looks stunning in black… That would have been my first choice.

Congratulations on your choice of car! 😀 I really wanted one of these myself but had to realise that I just don't fit comfortably behind the wheel of an X150 XK. I ended up buying a X100 XK8 from the Final Edition. A lovely car with a laid back kind of personality. A true continent munching cruiser. And I fit perfectly fine. 😊 I just recently added a 2017 V6 F-Type to my collection and I am totally and utterly in love with it. Enjoy your XK Jack and be assured of owning one of most gorgeous cars ever designed!

I bought a beautiful Jaguar XK 5 litre V8 18 months ago. It was fast, sleek and very pretty, but it was not comfortable because when I moved the driver's seat back sufficiently it rubbed against a post and made a ghastly noise---and this despite the fact I am not particularly large at 6 feet with short legs ! It is also cramped in general and is NOT "luxurious" at all. I LOST "£6,500 when I finally got rid of it but the replacement is heavenly----a Jaguar XJ 3 lire diesel that is fast, quiet and so comfortable as to be simply wonderful. In addition, it is gorgeous to look at in silver with cream leather, wood rim steering wheel and clear windows without the "obligatory" modern blacked out rear windows. Sheer heaven !!

SO good to hear someone else who hates those "blacked out" rear windows. What's wrong with people? That, and the extraordinary preponderance of black leather (vs the much more lovely cream or tan alternative). Who wants to live in a black cave inside their car?? Not me.

Fully agree with your comments in this review. The peak power figure doesn’t seem like much but this engine is all about torque: 411 Nm is quite a healthy number! So once it goes, you feel like a big hand pushing you... 🙂 Oh and last but not least, it’s just an amazingly beautiful and classy car... 😎

I bought it with 29,000 miles on it, paid a lot more than you did, but I like it. Mine is triple black, has the optional leather interior, big front brakes etc. It was a giant leap of faith for me, I'd never so much as seen one in the flesh, much less driven one, I found it online 2,000 miles from my home and had it shipped to my door. It didn't disappoint.

I have previously commented on each of your De Tomaso Pantera videos as a Pantera owner, but now I am commenting as a long, long time X150 owner. I bought my X150 XKR over 10 years ago, and yesterday it passed the 207,500 mile mark. It has unquestionably been the best automobile I've ever owned for many reasons in 55 years of driving. Besides being ridiculously powerful (pulleyed and tuned to about 600hp), it's been utterly reliable in its long tenure in my garage. It is still my daily driver, and still even with that mileage, a pleasure to both drive and look at. It's what caused me to make my Pantera a drivable car after 18 years of ownership. It was quicker, tighter, more luxurious, obviously more comfortable, and the XKR's greatness forced me to not settle for less in my Pantera as I was going to get rid of it. As I also own an X100 XKR, I can affirm your statement that the X150 was a giant leap ahead from the ancient X100 platform. The only thing it has in common with the X100 is that they are both Jaguars and have an XK in their name. Nothing else is comparable. My XKR will live with me for as long as I can still drive an automobile, it's that good. Although I have a 5.0L car, there are many that actually prefer the 4.2L motor for various reasons. I think you will enjoy this car a lot. I have tracked my XKR many dozens of times over the years, and it just keeps on giving me great service. I hope you have the same experience.

I think it's worth getting a pair of matched Dunlops (or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, they are pretty similar to the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT 1 & RT 2 which were also designed by Goodyear) on the front! Having mismatched tyres between the axles and especially across the front axle cannot be good. If you have front and rear tyres with different sidewall stiffness, it can result in some very strange handling effects.

I have a 5.0l which I've owned for eight years now. You must keep them on a trickle charger if you don't drive them often. They flatten the battery in a couple of weeks and if the charge gets low all the sensors go haywire. I've had to replace a few of the sensors - they tend to go wrong every now and then. The timing chain tensioner failed at 20,000 miles and was replaced by Jaguar with an engine rebuild under warranty. The other thing to say is check the subframes. These are poorly corrosion protected and are mild steel. They rust and I have heard of cars being written off as a result. You can't buy new ones. I had them dropped, blasted and painted with corrosion protection. It was expensive but worth it. It's a beautiful car. The extra power of the 5.0l is very apparent. The later rotary dial gearbox is superb. I've flirted with the idea of selling it a few times but then I drive it and love it again. I don't know what else could give you the power, speed, comfort and beauty for the money. It is a superb car.

A very good detailer will be able to clean that up nicely, then add touch up paint to the stone chips on that bonnet, wet sand it back and polish up to the point you would barely notice it. A better option than paying for fresh paint on the bonnet that sticks out as it’s bound to be a different shade to the UV exposed original paint surrounding it.

Really curious to see how you get on with this. I quite fancy one myself and it will be interesting to see what you discover when you take it to Jaguar.

Fantastic car. IMO, the 4.2 NA is the one to have. The engine had been in production since 1996, so all of the issues had been ironed out by then. It's easier and cheaper to service and run than the SC and has a better engine/exhaust sound, presuming that no one likes the supercharger whine sound (I hate it).

Nice choice and a lot of car for not a lot of money. Ref leak in the boot my 2012 Audi Avant had a leak in the very same area (caused I believe when a guy bumped into the rear of my car in supermarket car park as no issues before then) and unwilling to pay £3-400) to remove bumper replace seals bought a can of clear silicone sealant and did from inside - it has done the job and not leaked at all for the last 4 months of heavy rain - not professional repair I know but car cost less than £6K and been faultless having done 23k in 3 years of ownership.

Nice purchase. One comment - I think you will find that the wheels are not really split rims, but "fake" split rims. The screws are purely cosmetic to make the wheels look like splits. There's an F-type wheel option which is similar.

Yes they are 20” Senta wheels and not split rim BBS - many would say that’s a good thing - they look great and are much easier to live with than the split rims. If you do fancy the real BBS wheels be aware that the older X100 has an imperial wheel nut spacing whilst X150 went metric

One of most beautiful cars ever. 4.2 NA in full auto mode it is not very responsive - just use paddles. The difference is significant. The downside of 4.2 NA XK was insuffcient brakes. This was however an issue only in dynamic driving in mountain twisties. In 95% situations they are OK. Is there anything chipper and better. Not to much. CLK500 accelerates, brakes and turnes better but the Jag has better engine noise and looks more classy. Anyway I am sure you will have fun. I had ;)

Funny enough I’ve had one for 6 weeks my dad gave me his as he’s not well. Lovely cruiser of a car comfy quiet refined and a total contrast to my other cars. If it wasn’t for the daft car tax and fuel consumption I’d keep it and daily it for a bit Mines a Standard exhaust it’s an 06 4.2 and it’s so quiet if I kept it I’d release some v8 sound and it’s not particularly quick but lovely cars all the same

I've got 2 XKR 2007 146,000 miles paid £6200 for it and a XK 150 Convertible 179000 miles both run perfect i've had 7 in total and never had any water leaks in the boot or anywhere else.

Hasn't the X150 XK aged so well? I saw my first ever X150 XK 4.2 in the wild a few months ago (Jag XK is an oddity here in Indonesia), and it's just so svelte and oozes class. Something that Jag might gonna lose once the F-Type is gone.

Once you finish ‘snagging’ the car, I’d suggest you get it detailed Jack. The cosmetic issues are all quite superficial, with the biggest being the stone chipping on the bonnet and nose cone. Probably worth costing up a ‘Chips Away’ style remedy versus a repaint (I suspect the former will be much cheaper). I bet she will scrub up well!

I'd be tempted to put a bunch of these silica bags in that boot space, once you've dried it out, to absorb any damp. Depends how long you're keeping it of course...if it's months that should do it.

Got to love the Jag, maybe a video idea could be to see how many Jeremy Clarkson themed Jag things you can do, bit out of character for yourself but might be fun

Jeremy Clarkson forms an argument based on a skerrick of truth, laces it with myths and exaggerated misinformation and delivers it in a bombastic manner - he is funny though. May be challanging for Jack.
