Good you finally visited Westlands,its a city within a city.... Past few years many multinationals have moved offices to this beautiful area just like in upper Hill ...Its cool and very organised. Years ago it was an exclusively Indian area just like its neighboring area Parklands.....Most top 5 star hotels are here, Kempinski and Movenpick too are in that area.....Very active suburb. Thanks Harriet for bringing our city to the world..

Architects conceptualize from forms, company brands or names. For example, if Oracle commissioned you to design a building for them, you would conceptualize specifically with ideas and concepts associated with Oracle. So mostly here, form follows brand. You can even use their logo as the form of the building

Hi, Westlands is beautiful, with nice buildings, old and new. What I don't like is the open trench drainage system. Watching from South Africa.
@dwamburu16 ай бұрын
It's open because it is not a sewer but a rain/floods drainage system.
@fellybilal6 ай бұрын
Its not an open sewer like in some west African countries...
@jabulanithema14676 ай бұрын
@@fellybilal in South Africa, evething is underground. That includes sewer and rain water drainage system, even in low income areas.
@kenfishpeter5 ай бұрын
@@jabulanithema1467 in the tropics the rain can be too much and the covered drainage can cause floods on the roads, so we let our drainages be open. In the CBD we have underground drainage system that is higher than a human height for storm water drainage. You never notice that.
@jabulanithema14675 ай бұрын
@@kenfishpeter the are different sizes of pipes to address the issue of water volume. The only sound reason for open trench system is that the government was cutting costs.

Private sector in kenya have done their part with the buildings, west world standard. The only thing lagging behind is lack of well paved roads, for pedestrians, lack of road markings and road crossings. The government lags behind very much. Some dirt roads in the middle of this rich neighborhood. And Nairobi is also pedestrian unfriendly.
@kenfishpeter5 ай бұрын
That will be done as we move away from road destructive building to now developing model roads to serve build up neighbourhoods. Remember earth movers are not kind to roads

We need to embrace closed drainage systems. The open drainage is not good. Then I wonder why we never recarpet our city streets and mark them.
@markisto86556 ай бұрын
Nairobi is massive and pretty developed! The government is a let down though. We need a proper public transit system, well maintained roads and pavements, more employment opportunities (meaning less vibandaskis and bodas).
@calvoh97156 ай бұрын
Private sector have done it with the buildings, corrupt people in government cannot do pavements all over for pedestrians,roads markings and road crossings for people. The reason I don't love Nairobi is because it lacks pedestrian friendliness.
