a trolley chain hoist would be a huge benefit to this machine. you can use this for all kinds of jobs, not just pivot wheels

Bigger diameter wheels on the thing itself would help, I think. That would speed it up on the road and lift it a few more inches above the corn as you drive through.

So glad to see the new (old) machine.I've had 2 back surgeries and need another one now, Laura, my back hurts every time I see you lifting those heavy gear boxes, pivot wheeis and other heavy objects. Everytime I see you lifting them I pray that you don't injure your back. Believe me it is not fun having to lay up for 6 weeks after each surgery. I'm 72 and can barely walk to my mail box and back which is only a couple hundred feet. Please take care of your backs, all three of you including Grant and Gage. Don't be like me and ruin your backs. Love you all and so enjoy your videos. Be safe.Just an old Okie.

It's all big, giant, expensive machines that you depend on. It's not like you're doing 40 acres and a mule. Unless you have to call in a specialist, you do nearly all of the repairs yourself. Between getting machines to start, stealing batteries and fixing pivots so you can move them, it's easy to end up losing a whole day before you can get back to the productive work of harvesting. I'm truly impressed that you work so patiently to get things back on track. You are one very even-tempered crew.

The trolley chain hoist additon would be a good itdea for the crain. Additionally with a little thought and work, I suspect you can modify it crain portion to be sufficent to lift the pivot as Grant mentioned. I admire how you guys find these old pieces and fix them up to be operational again or modify them for a new purpose in their life. Have a blessed week and I"ll see you on the next one. Laura, A wonderful and "cheap" addition to the farm fleet of machinery! Grant just needs to look for an intact backhoe hydraulic bucket assembly on Marketplace, somewhere close to home! - He'll find one, Laura! That way you can use it to place the tyres right onto the raised flatform and manoeuvre tyres easily around on the ground at the pivot assembly. That old I-beam is hopeless. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for adding deck space to the sides of the cab, ... deck chairs, ... sun shade, restoring the cab instruments, hydraulic actuators, air compressor for rattle guns, and tidying up the loose wiring including the engine "detonation switch"! Well now that is definitely a red neck rig there. Which means two things. 1: you need to check all the welds and make sure that they are still good after sitting. 2: It won't be pretty, but it will be functional! As others have already said, yes, you are correct about the trolly chain hoist. It would work great! Also, if you put an anchor point near the middle/or as close to the ram as is useful on the beam. Then I bet that it would lift that pivot no problem. Of course you will need to fix the mount plate first. Great find!

The possibilities are endless! The workbench is really cool! The first thing I would do is tie that crane into the frame somehow to make it stronger. Find something to fit over that vertical pipe a little over half way up so the pipe can still pivot inside of it, and then weld a square tube from that piece at an angle down to the frame somewhere above the tire on each side. That would make it more stable. Looks like the crane is pretty fast. Maybe put an orifice or a flow comtrol valve in line to slow it down a little. Then, mount some old cylinders under the frame somewhere inside each front tire with a good sized base so you can put them down like an outrigger to take the weight off of the tires and rims and stabilize it when you are lifting something with the crane. Then, plumb a single spool valve and a set of quick couplers into the hydraulic system up front somewhere, and then take an old hydraulic cylinder and build a jack of some sort. Maybe mount it in a telescoping pipe with a base and a top with some hoses to reach from the pivot back to the machine and use that to lift the pivot instead of that incredibly dangerous handyman jack. Those things should be illegal. Build a rack on the back to carry your pivot tires and drive motors. Geez! I could have a ton of fun building that thing up with you guys this winter! Good luck with it, and have fun fixing it up to fit your needs!

I 100% agree with Grant that you shouldn't trust that crane to lift anything heavy. I'm wondering if you should shorten the I-beam so it doesn't have so much leverage on the base of the crane. Yeah it wouldn't have as much reach but with that much I-beam on there it would be very easy to overload the base and break it, which has already happened. That unit is going to be very handy around the farm but it's going to need a lot of massaging to make it dependable and safe.

I doubt you guys will see this. But those old trailers do NOT have spring brakes. So when the air is bled out, the brakes release. this makes hooking up to them a pain. Also your frame height was too high. So Back up to the trailer, drop your suspension airbags, back up as far as you can. When you bump the trailer and it tries to roll, stop and hook up the air lines. Press the red button (trailer air) in and supply it with air. When you have enough pressure (100 psi min), pull the Jonny bar down (handle knob under the right side of the steering wheel.) This will LOCK the trailer brakes. then release your tractor brakes (yellow knob) and back under it. Then flip your suspension switch and fill your bags with air. Pull test and check connection. Once connected, then hook up pig tail and bring up gear. Don't forget to release the Johnny bar. There is a reason why those airlines have not changed from the curly cue design in 100 years. This from a 24+ year Truck driving Veteran Also: You need to slide your Fifth wheel ALL the way back when pulling that trailer. Edit, I now see your air line is broken. So need to repair that Fifth wheel Air line. To move it. Hook to a trailer but leave the landing gear down. If connected to a spring break trailer like your grain trailer then no need to connect any lines. Flip the sliding fifth wheel switch and the pins may or may not release. if they don't, then rock the truck forward and back and that will release the pressure on the pins and they should release. PB Blaster can help too. Then pull the truck forward while still connected. this will slide the fifth wheel back. Once in position, flip the switch again and rock the truck fore and back until pins are seated.
