Excellent analysis! I would add that if one visits a country one can gather much about the language by looking around. Enter a bookstore and try to make sense of what the books are about. Go into a supermarket and read the ingredients. When you go to a museum, read the captions. Peek at newspapers, you name it.

Yes, going to another country is a great benefit which one should use to the full extent to improve some aspects of a language.

Absolutely right. Until 2022 I lived on and off in a mainly Russian-speaking city in Ukraine but my Russian only really improved when I spent time studying the language at home in England. These days, the biggest motivation for me to improve my Russian is travelling in (some) countries of the former Soviet Union where the Russian language is still widely spoken. The "work" is done at home, the pleasure comes from communicating with people while travelling.

Totally!! Just being in another country without studying doesn't really help to improve a language. But the feeling of being able to use your knowledge is great! And because of it motivation grows at home then.

Excellent analysis. I found this to be very true but never admitted it to myself. If you are young and single I would say still go because - especially for a semester or two - as you will meet many people to practice the language with. For the others, I guess you are right that there is no excuse not to be walking around your own environment practicing. The question for me is to what level continue with Russian and ultimately what for? I guess you need the motivation to keep progressing if you don't have a Russian speaker at home.

Sure, travelling is great! Travelling for practicing a language is twice greater! But yeah, I think there should not be any excuses for those who can't/don't want to travel because a language can be learnt also at home. As for your Russian, I guess if you don't have a specific goal, then the ultimate point may be when you feel free (or at least good enough) communicating, and then you can slow down with your progress and just keep the level you already have. But the most important thing, as for me, is enjoy the process, and while you do, you keep going.

@@alessandromanzotti8110 ah sì, adesso è più chiaro :) честно говоря, для меня такая цель непонятна. ведь романы рано или поздно будут перечитаны, а что делать с языком дальше? :) с другой стороны, возможно, для некоторых это как учить латынь. тоже мёртвый язык, но учится до сих пор, хоть и не для общения. но со своей стороны согласна, что цель должна быть более осязаемой, чтобы мотивация не угасала :)

Это именно так я чувствовал в России : глубокие разговоры невозможно , только репетицы выражения и фразы. Люди не узнали английский язык и даже много , им не нравится говорить с незнакомини...это было очень грустно . Но в Казахстане всё было лучше : они были очень любопытны при мне. ))))

Я не согласен, я не согласен с названием, если быть точным :) Ты можешь выучить любой язык в любом месте, только отпуск должен быть длинный :) Хотя, отпуск на месяц, вот это да :) Короче, важно не место, а время, силы, помощники, и так далее. Toto video malo, zdá sa, taký taliansky nádych, tempo :) a okrem iného aj veľa nových slov, pre mňa. P.S. topánky (obuv) nabudúce neber nové, nohy na ne neboli zvyknuté :)

ciaooo!! да, так и есть - учить можно в любом месте)) главное, не полагаться исключительно на пребывание в стране) даа, я хорошо отдохнула🤪и немножко итальянизировалась😄 я натерла ноги старыми, поэтому пришлось срочно искать новые. там целая эпопея была с этой обувью😅
