Real talk for you guys today. Being an artist isn't always easy. Our creativity and productivity are never guaranteed and it's okay to be frustrated. Keep pushing through, but don't forget to give yourself a break. Don't be so hard on yourself! We're all running our own race.

Some of my art I completely hate, but sometimes I remember “the art is in the making” Art isn’t a chore, and you shouldn’t make it that way, have fun with your art, and you’ll become a better artist 😊

I can relate to this SO MUCH, but I never threw out this kind of paintings, I keep them in box somewhere and a year later I look back into them. You would get a lot of inspiration, ideas and confidence when you look back into the art you made that you hated.

To be honest, you inspired me to pick up again my art materials and do some traditional art after years of hiatus. Your artworks are full of expression and creativity. I can sense the passion in your work. Progress is more important than perfection as they say. Art taught me to let go of the fear of failure and making mistakes and learn from those things as you move on to your journey.

I share this story very often because it’s one that had tremendously helped me to discover my purpose in creating art, as a few years ago I was very confused with what my art had become and how others where portraying it. It was exactly this time of year when I walked into a boutique that was filled with paintings scattered all over the shop and I asked the owner about them. She was an older women and just immediately was joyful to talk about the paintings as they where hers...we had this whole conversation on her journey of becoming an artist and how there was a point where she put her brushed away for seven years because all she had received for her work was negative criticism and she had stated to believe it all....she started to hate it all herself. She always had the desire to create and express her visions through her paintings so she took another chance to try again, taking out her art supplies and started to paint with a new perspective. She told me that even though you might not accept your own work then someone else will...that they will encourage you to look at it the way they do. I went back to how her painting where displayed and realized that even though she hadn’t enjoyed the outcome of her pieces she still chooses to proudly presents them. She’s one person I’ll never forget because the outcome of the piece is only one out of the many feelings that one goes through to portray their vision. It’s much more then the technique or the medium used, it’s all in the process🌿.

Talks about art block... makes an amazing landscape painting! But for real! thanks for posting this! sometimes the best way I deal with this is accept defeat and learn from the challenges and just push on through art is not perfect life is not perfect, it is the process that matters most for growth!

A few days ago, I made a piece that I was very excited about during the sketching process. It was when I came to paint it, however, that I wanted to toss it completely . So crazy how everything goes sour so quickly... but your message about imperfection helped to silence the critics inside my head. Can’t thank you enough Matt.. your videos are awesome to watch

I honestly really liked you vlogs. I'm not an artist rathera pre-med student jaja, but what I notice is that a lot of people in the study tube sphere are intense when getting their work done. Sometimes when I am working on a piece and it is going well but I am not enjoying the process I just take a rest for that art piece. It sometimes is kinda weird that it was going all nicely but I just stopped working on cause I just felt that it’s more about the process, the journey rather than the destination. I kinda struggle with this and sometimes have to force myself to complete the artwork but it gets exhausting. Matt can you please help me with it.Your videos always puts a smile on my face ! Thankyou so so much

You're absolutely right. Especially with my drawing challenge right now where I have to put out a drawing every day, its silly to think that I'm gonna be proud of every single one. Instead I want to find more joy in the process rather than rush to the end result. Also Autumn is very beautiful and I think you've captured it fantastically in this piece. And even though you're not fond of it, at least you learnt from it! :D

That painting is so beautiful. I get what you mean. Sometimes we couldn't see that our painting is good, it took times to realize that the painting that we created isn't that bad. That was happened to me too. One thing I realized that, art supposed to be fun, not perfect. 😄 Anyway, I enjoyed watching your painting video. 😄

you're so pure and I love that. I've embraced this philosophy for a while now and it really made me change my attitude on how I look at my work. I used to be a highly neurotic individual (to some degrees perhaps I still am) and would be so disheartened when something I made just didn't turn out so well. I thought a lot about this today specifically since it's inktober and I've been trying to catch up (lol pls help me) but! I've been in a manic state for the last 12 hours and I pushed through my inktobers even if they had so many flaws. to me, I'm seeing these specific works as points in time--almost like a timestamp of my mental state and thus I will treasure it all love

I know exactly how you feel. That cringe when people say it isn't that bad. Artists generally have this drive to constantly be creating great work and its really just gonna be a road towards disappointment.
