The monster was her kid. The medication on the table indicates her mental illness. "It was all a mistake", "Guess Who?", and ,"FIX IT!" written on the wall. And the kid covering her eyes playfully. The "monster" is legless and slow because it is actually a child. The child probably thought that the mom was playing hide and seek with him. This is why he was following her throughout the game, and him hearing the music box the dad gave the mom on one of his trips for his job, made it easier for the child to find her. When she was going upstairs the kid was watching TV. Along with the moaning of the monster, sped up it probably says something like, mom or mother. The mother killed her own child without knowing it. She grabbed the sword that the dad probably got from his job and stabbed the kid with it, killing him. This is why the kids face on the family portrait is smeared with blood and why there is a small handprint of the child on the radiator.

Angry Demon Studio You guys have some REAL talent put into this! I've played it over quite a few times and I enjoy it each time I do. One curious thing, though - when I first got this and played it, I had my Oculus DK2 hooked up, and when I fired the game up I was shocked to see my Oculus light up too, with no configuration or anything needed - it plays this game BEAUTIFULLY (aside from the menus - those aren't split-screened). Was this an intentional design choice, or are you surprised to hear this? The reason I ask is because I guess I'm still unsure how some things that weren't (apparently) designed with the DK2 at all in mind just sort of... work, somehow, while other things that were (again, apparently) designed specifically FOR things like the DK2 barely function. Embarrassingly, I've owned one of these things for 2+ years now and am STILL learning how to make it work when I want, and how it inexplicably works perfectly when I least expect it to.

Seems to me like this is about a mentally disturbed woman who saw her son as a monster; first figuratively, then literally. And as her mind decayed, so did the things she "saw". And soon enough, she killed him. Edit: Also, just some small details to add. The monster was legless probably because her son didn't have legs due to an accident. Or maybe it was a depiction of some sort of handicap. The music box can be explained as something that comforts her, but also makes her uneasy. This is probably a representation of her feelings towards her son. And finally, explaining the loop. This shows how she feels trapped in her mind. She can't escape the thoughts and feelings that change the landscape of her mind. Which is when she decides that enough's enough, takes matters into her own hands, and kills the thing that seems to be the reason for her inner turmoil, the monster (her son). But! That's just a theory! A game theory! Thanks for reading. :)

Ok, the death animation is by far the scariest death animation I have ever seen. Just seeing the monster wiggle around and growling like a ravenous dog ready to kill you and then killing you is just well done unlike most games where it's very basic where you just look at the monster with a staring animation of some sort and die. For a game by students, this has went beyond my expectations for a horror game.

I'm probably about to read way too much into this game, so let me just say this before people stop reading this comment: A game hasn't scared me like this - or at all, really - since PT, so the comparison between the two is very apt. In fact, something that this game and PT both excel at is suspense. Neither one goes out of its way to jumpscare you till you're already wound up from the eerie environment. Other horror games could stand to learn from games like these. Ok. Now to over-analyze like only an art student can. Actually, now that I think about it, an English major could probably do an even better job, but here's my two bits: It seems to me not that there is an actual monster, but that the mother has a mental disorder - maybe a few. Being unable to leave a room or open a cabinet without touching parts of the house (marked by mental symbols) while her music box is playing sounds like OCD to me. Her looping back each time she tries to leave her child's room is her realizing that she got the pattern wrong and consequently starting over. The last time the room is red and distorted because she is beginning to become increasingly distressed by her inability to complete her routine, but she immediately feels better when she, at last, gets it right. Then there's the "monster". The blood splatter covering the child's portrait at the game's end, which Mark so dutifully pointed out, coupled with the fact that a large portion of the game takes place in the child's room, suggests that the monster is actually just the child trying to get their mother's attention, but distorted by some other condition from which the mother suffers - or maybe even as a side effect of medicine she takes or a result of having recently quit said medicine.

In the living room, there's a book on the table that translates to "Book for new parents" .. So in my perspective of this game, there was a family that had a son (As seen in the painting in the living room) But for some unknown reason, the mother ended up killing him, (Whether she knew it or not) depending on a mental illness, or just mental toll.. .. I kinda wish the game wrapped up the ending for us, telling us what REALLY happened inside the walls of that house, besides viewing it from the MC's deluded perspective.. it was by far an OUTSTANDING horror game none the less!! the graphics, and story in general kept me on edge the whole time.. I haven't felt fear like that since five nights at freddy's or PT..

I think the reason the creature has no legs is because the son was handicapped. And I have two theory's. I agree with you, but there is also a possibility that the boy was an accident of an abusive relationship and she sees and thinks of her son as some sort of creature.

The music box is actually cursed. The woman became obsessed with the music box and saw her son as a monster. That's why at the end of the game when she kills the monster, the son's face is replaced with the monster's face.

so i have a theory the game is about a mothers slow descent into madness ie when the room was messy it was the son not cleaning up his room and the elephant with stitches is the toys that the son broke and the monster crawling around is the son and the reason you use the music box is when the son was younger it would put him to sleep and it would explain why the blood from the monster splatters on the sons face on the painting but that's just a theory. a *game theory* thanks for reading

This is an indie horror game too. Notes of Obession looks like Sophie's curse. He started it and was a house. He saw a picture and saw a shelf with 2 toy people. He went to another room and the doors didn't make him. He went to another room too the bedroom on the rain. He went to the kitchen and went to the living room. He went upstairs. He heard the music box. Something closed the door and he got terrified on the bedroom, but found the music box and he saw a symbol on the wall and didn't capture, but he did.

He found another symbol where the elephant was sitting and the room became red and demon and went to another room and screamed after getting dark caught by skeleton. He appeared downstairs. He has his music box, but found a symbol next to the picture frame on the wall. He found another symbol on the wall. A skeleton came inside the kitchen and after finding his symbol on the drawer. He got a symbol on the bed. He heard a noise of the monster. He went upstairs and found a symbol in the wall at the room where the boxes are. The skeleton got him upstairs and became dark. He appeared downstairs and had his music box. He found another symbol on the wall upstairs hearing 2 noises of the monster. He heard a noise again. He appeared downstairs, because he heard a noise of a monster, but found a symbol on the shelf. He took the knife and killed the monster stabbing it.

If you look around her house, you find meds for some form of disorder or something, so it's likely this was all caused by this. The son could of been following her around wherever she went because he was worried. On one scene he/the monster is on the couch, watching TV.
