I don't think some people understand that during the localization process not only words but also sentences and sentence structures will be re-organized to better fit and flow idiomatically to the english language and expression. It's why it seems like the dialogue, in taking small out of context clips, is very different between the japanese and english versions. An entire scene of dialogue may add up to the same thing being communicated but when you take a small snippet each line may be at different points of the sentence which is why people are assuming the localizers don't know what they're doing or aren''t representing the orignal script.
@blueroseknight1 Жыл бұрын
SE does this a lot even with other games like FFXIV, they've changed the english localization to the point of changing a lot of context or changing scenes and characters entirely. We got shafted yet again where other languages did not. I'm really tired of it and I'm tempted to play in French instead.
@ryanharrison3118 Жыл бұрын
@@blueroseknight1 I'm sure you can find instances of completely changed context but I don't think that is true broadly from my experience, although I'm haven't played much FF14 so I can't really comment on that. I'm speaking mostly on people coming to snap judgement conclusions based on very brief out of context clips mostly in trailers.

You are 100% correct. Id say the biggest thing that was lost from part 1 was the pronoun usage at the edge of creation by Sephiroth, but even this detail in japanese was still communicated in english by the demeanor, substance, and message of sephiroth. So even not knowing the pronoun had changed, we still could tell this sephiroth seems more enlightened and scheming.
@schrodingersbabyseal Жыл бұрын
Exceptionally well said, I imagine the FULL lines of dialogue will convey appropriate meaning. In a trailer, getting BOTH portions of a sentence or statement is interesting from a lore exploration standpoint. I also find it useful to look at other localizations too for this reason.
@dandandan8686 Жыл бұрын
As who play FFXVI in japanese and english....... man, the differences are HUGE, FFVII remake or FFXV is far from being so different in both languages than FFXVI, is almost two games in two languages. They said "we make the localization fits each other blablablablabla" but you have differences that make a character another person, unrecognizable. I have the theory, and I will defend it to the death, that they make a game for Japanese people and their sensibilities and another for Americans and their specific sensibilities. It's not possible that they are such different games.

@zachdixon413 Жыл бұрын
@user-ky8nd2rz4f Yeah, I don't think it's that simple. Maybe they need him alive for some reason, that we don't know about yet. I'm still a believer that this isn't the LS . I could be wrong though and Zack and Biggs are in the LS for some reason. I think they are in an alternate timeline though because I feel like these trailers are really harping that Zack is important and has a big purpose. Not sure how the LS would fit that. That's just my theory though. All of it is still very weird and it could be a number of things. But right here, they are showing Zack, telling a story to somebody about how it felt windy. I really don't know what else it could be. We just gonna have to find out man.
@braklinath11 ай бұрын
OHH DAMN OKAY this is what was meant when I saw someone suggest the japanese text implying Zack was saved. damn alright. this interpretation then further reinforces my entire theory that the entire point of the singularity dome was to save Zack then transport him into the beagle verse to help them not die to sephiroth cheating time (but that was what sephiroth wanted from the beginning, so he screwed up their wild card play and made an instable alternate timeline as a result)

I remember seeing a VA explain that they had to translate and cut down the dialogue so it can match the mouth movement of the characters, while still doing its best to convey the original intent. Otherwise it would be like Genshin Impact (since that’s the only thing I can think of to relate it to right now) where the character’s mouth moves for two seconds, but the VA still hasn’t completed the sentence yet.

Marlene's quote in Japanese definitely tells me that she is NOT talking about Aerith. Given when and where that is, we're talking about Avalanche's leader, Elfe. And the scary man is Fuhito, who wants to genocide the human race and is defeated before Cloud is found alone in the Sector 7 slums train station by Tifa.
@TitaniumSalvage Жыл бұрын
You see Aerith asleep in the same room as Marlene & Zach. She is definitely talking about Aerith and talking about how she saw that Sephiroth is going to kill her, which goes with the theory that Aerith knows she's going to die and that Marlene knows this cause of the scene where she hugs Aerith
@Koniving Жыл бұрын
@zackkeogh3515 Barret brings his girl to work (avalanche meetings); I mean you can't expect him to leave Marlene in a bar, do you? Just have Zack pop in, interrupt a canon event from Before Crisis -- one that will lead to the world slowly dying NO MATTER WHAT CLOUD DOES in FF7... and poof, you have a contrived plot and reason for Zack being alive. Maybe Marlene has seen that Fuhito is a scary man. If Fuhito's plan isn't interrupted in a way that doesn't lead to the World Ender being summoned, the planet cannot be saved no matter what, it's doomed and nothing can save it.

They really just say everything so bluntly in the Japanese I way prefer the English
@vincentgraymore Жыл бұрын
I usually watch both trailers just because watching both gives more context and basically more spoilers, but this time I didn't. At least this confirms what I thought about Aeriths words in the end, that it was directed to the planet and not Zack, Cloud or anyone else. That made a lot more sense to me. Then again Bugenhagen talks about hoshi during his VR explanation and it for some reason is translated to "the very essence of this star"... Edit 3: I know that Hoshi can be translated to star, but not as a star in the context of talking about the planet in FF VII. But I have not studied Japanese.
@vincentgraymore Жыл бұрын
@zackkeogh3515 I must have written badly, or it did not come across, and I don't understand the sarcasm directed here at me since what I said was that I found it strange that Bugenhagen talks about "star", instead of "planet" in the English trailer. I am well aware that FF VII says hoshi in regard to the planet and I don't need a lecture for that.
@vincentgraymore Жыл бұрын
@zackkeogh3515 Also, just to clarify. It is not this trailer, but another one where Bugenhagen says "The lifestream, it is the very essence of our star" and I just found that very strange, and perhaps I missed something. If you want a link to the trailer and moment kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpynaXV5eL6miZIsi=JxKxQDPuBRZNlyi9&t=67. No need to be condescending. I also have no idea where 4chan came from. What leaks?
