Not sure what you're talking about but it was a great year Politically and for gaming. Wokeness is being thrown out and the crappy games along with it. It's okay to change your mind and be wrong about your ideas of "capitalism".

We can re-address politics in 4 years. But from an industry perspective… essentially every AAA game is selling less than AAA releases of the previous 3 years… this is not controversial at all.

@schrodingersbabyseal Sure thing. I don't believe things will be fixed overnight, or in 4 years. The AAA titles failing to sell as many copies as before may have more than just one reason, as for FF7 Rebirth, it's not wokeness that made the game sell less, but the exclusivity contract being the likely culprit. I still think that while FF7 sales are down, it will over time be regarded as one of the best games ever made and to own. It might be a slow burn, but it's a safe bet the game will eventually be very profitable for SE.

@@Knildragon Folks probably having less time to play games and lesa disposable income to spend on them is likely.a major issue. I hope this doesn't mean we usher in a trend of shorter/smaller games but it may be the case, particularly off the back of astrobot success. Some games are priced ridiculously high as well - for example I can't bring myself to purchase Dragonball Z despite wanting to. Just priced stupid high

@@Knildragon this is true. I think for Triple A the studios could think more about complimentary medias that world build prior to release. Eg netflix animes etc. cyber punk series was pretty successful although came out after the game. Kingsglave for FF15 was good too

Another new twist of lore! I'm thinking now of what the Gi said about the Cetra not being perfect. Jenova's presence on Gaia could aggravate the Lifestream and churn it in a negative direction, but it may not necessarily be the source of Negative Lifestream, which might be spiritual. I feel confident Alyssa is an illusion of Jenova playing with them. Experience with VII has thought me when I feel confident, I need to be ready for a curve ball lol. They are really driving home the difference between Angeal and Sephiroth, between Angeal having a family and a real home, and Sephiroth having neither. If everything is in this story is fuel to tie into the big Lifestream memory sequence crux, could the big reveal be the parental love story of what Claudia, a single mother of age seventeen, gave Cloud. In a sense, Tifa and Aerith may be the ultimate subversion: beauty can lead the heart astray, or cloud the eyes from the truth. But without having that boring parental love first, what does a child grow up to turn into?

"BACK?!" 😂 My interpretation is not that we're seeing Remake/Rebirth-continuity Sephiroth, but that it's simply Jenova's influence coming through. That's her speaking through him. She made the sword by controlling Masamune (the smith) and now she has a stronger vessel that can claim it (Sephiroth).

Jenova and Sephiroth hugging near a flower field looks similar to a scene in Rebirth. I wonder that is supposed to be a preview for Jenova-Aerith in part 3. They outlined in OG that Jenova appeared as loved ones to the Cetra, but we are seeing for the first time how that works through Lucrecia and Sephiroth. Maybe Cloud actually gets swayed by Jenova-Aerith in part 3 and Zack will have to square off against Cloud and Sephiroth working together. They've been setting up Sephiroth trying to get Cloud to join him since the end of game 1. That could actually be an interesting story change.

That would genuinely be incredible because I’m a firm believer that the harder the fall, the more triumphant the return. Cloud falling so hard into the darkside that he fights and works WITH Sephiroth will make his return and acceptance of himself THAT MUCH more impactful. I really like this idea and I would love to fight Cloud as well.

Personally I would be happy if Zack were the centerpiece of part 3. Zack as the main character would absolutely drop a lot of jaws to the floor and would elevate the finale back to respectable sales numbers. If they stick closely to OG and backtrack on all the Whisper stuff and the new plot devices go nowhere, the finale would be kind of similar to FFXIII's part 3 that suffered heavily from backtracking and we would likely see Rebirth's sales cut in half or so.

Speaking as a Zack fan, i can't see them making him MC over Cloud, especially how much development He and Tifa are going to get and how integral tifa is story wise in the final part. I can see, however Zack being a champion of Hope through Aerith. Sephiroth wants misery and despair, Aerith and Zack will do the opposite and install hope into the world.

@GamebustersUK It's very unlikely to happen yeah that Zack will be as major as they repeatedly claim and I'm still quite cautious going into part 3. There's a chance that Zack might be back with some role that is at least better than how he was handled in Rebirth.

I don’t think they need to make Zack the centrepiece but they definitely do need to make some bigger deviations because the huge materia quests, underwater section and lifestream sequence are not enough to make up the bulk of the narrative

To understand Astrobot hype: It is a celebratión of other IP mascots, specially platformers and PlayStation titles. It is easy to get into and the whole family can play it. That last part is harder to achieve than anyone can think.

I don't understand the astrobot hype. I've played platformers my whole life. I've loved a lot of them, but they just don't stand up to games like Rebirth to me. I just never understood the over-hype of a game like astrobot. No matter how good a platformer is, it's still just a platformer. There's no story or character's to be attached to. The music was very cartoony and childish. I just dunno.

I'm generally the same. Astrobot is a 10/10 calibre game, but it doesn't MOVE me like a game like Rebirth does. But that's just because I value narrative so highly from my games. Astrobot is a pretty faultless experience. Its beautiful, incredibly charming, and consistently fun. That's all a lot of gamers want, and astrobot has it in spades. I'm just glad metaphor didnt win.....

I disagree, some platformers actually have engaging stories. But it also depends on what "you" the player wants out of a game. Say what you will about Sonic, but there are some good stories every now and then.

idk i loved Metaphor but If it were up to me I think id only give it narrative because its actually a full complete story. I def would have gave RPG to Rebirth and Art style to something else. Metaphor looks good but idk the anime cell shaded look is getting pretty played out thanks to other anime gacha games and the slick persona menu Styles has been a thing since 5 sooo idk just how i feel on the subject lol

Agreed on rpg and art direction. I dont really know how metaphor beat rebirth for rpg of the year, I just dont think any of its rpg elements are better. As for art direction, metaphor is fuck ugly. Aliases as all hell and every texture is so noisy (plus the constant magla particles all over the screen). Legitimately gave me a headache and hour in and I had to turn it off and come back to it another time to push through

I thought that the White Whisperers were under Aerith’s control….. But, I just noticed for the first time when I replayed Rebirth last night. That after you beat Jenova Lifeclinger, the White Whisperers explode from Jenova’s chest. I wonder if it has any meaning to it….
