On the conversation with the Tea House (brothel) Madame, that's actually the most important scene in the episode. She was very subtly bargaining with Toranaga for a district to start her "Guild of Courtesans" in exchange for her silence since she very clearly saw he was still up to something, and the fact that his forces were exposed wasn't just some careless mistake.

​. This show does a great job of spelling out the plot but not insulting the viewers' intelligence. For example, look at episode 5 when Blackthorne gave Fujis swords to Toranage. A subtle way of saying Blackthorne understands the speech by Mariko earlier. Good stuff.

Toda Hirokatsu, known as Buntaro, is Fuji's uncle. He is the only living son of Toda Hiromatsu (the old dude). Hiromatsu's second son, Fuji's father, died during the war in Korea. Also, the thing with Buntaro and Mariko isn't so black and white. Although he came to the point where he ab***d her, in the beginning, he was truly into her but she looked down on him. After her father's death, she was fixated on her urge to end her life and end her shame. That's why she didn't saw the bigger picture and that's why Toranaga finally got mad at her. Also, the way Blackthorn acted after Toranaga's decision shows that he didn't learn that his words have meaning - sometime earlier he promised Toranaga that he will be on his side no matter what fate brings. Taking this into consideration, was Buntaro wrong in his judgment? In the book Blackthorn sided with Toranag because it was in his interest as well as it was in Toranaga's.

Toranaga has no doubt ordered Anjin to prepare his ship, collect his remaining forces from Edo (and Anjin's own) men to assault Osaka just as Toranaga and his forces are eventually escorted there as prisoners.

If you think about it, there are actually two crucial pieces of information to gather from this episode to guess what is about to happen: 1. The meeting with the Tea House lady, in which it is hinted at that Toranaga has foreseen and planned around all that has happened, and the woman figured this out and kinda "blackmailed" him into giving her the house in Edo. 2. The fact that Toranaga is called the master of trickery, even in episode 1. This fact is again reminded to us by John during the meeting at the end, where he "mocks" him as master of trickery. Either way, some Uno reverse shit by Toranaga is about to hit in episode 8 I am assuming.

This is only story. Toranaga's brother kept royal to him and Toranaga's son became 2nd Shogun in real history.

I think this story is slightly based on Japanese history. In real history, Toranaga’s eldest son was ordered to “seppuku”. And third son became second Shogun.

@@自我捨男 it's not just slightly, the book is largely based alot on japanese history, sure some parts have been changed, but for the most part it's accurate to historical events, and the show even more so. There were some mistakes in the book which the show had corrected also.

Seppuku was performed traditionally by disemboweling oneself. It was considered one of the most painful ways to die and could take days of agony. In many cases, out of respect, an attendant would be offered to decapitate the person directly after they cut open their stomachs to spare them the ordeal that was to follow. Edit: Also, yes Buntaro referred to Hiromatsu as 'Father' back in Osaka when he visited to ask Mariko to meet with Toranaga. Fuji was also established as Hiromatsu's granddaughter and Buntaro her uncle.

Torananga definitely has a plan, he was pretending to consider his options. I wondered if Saeki (who I love) was in on it but I don't think so now. Toranaga is so clever, he is always planning ahead, but he doesn't tell anyone and that keeps causing problems. Poor stupid Nagakado thought he was helping, if only he knew the plan. You can see other characters getting uneasy, Yabushige is always on the fence and I think it might bite Toranaga in the arse

Well, technically it kind of is? Yes the head taking ceremony is a big part of Samurai culture. The whole point of it is taking the enemy’s head as a trophy to boast of your achievements and to get rewarded for it. Off course the enemy having your head as a trophy is something you wouldn’t want, in fact, when some daimyo would commit seppuku they would order their men to hide their heads so the enemy couldnt find it. For example, Otani Yoshitsugu ordered his men to hide is head after he committed seppuku at the Battle of Sekigahara. If they didn’t want people to find their heads, off course them having it is kind of meant to be a disrespect to the dead enemy. That being said, they still did make their heads look presentable through make up and cleaning them, but I think thats more about the reward than actually caring about being respectful to the dead person.

Suzy & Steejo, Did Toranaga not know that his brother was coming with a large army? It also means his brothers realm is not so well protected and as we know there are bandits everywhere. Did Toranaga have a quiet word with Fujiko's husband before his meeting with the council in ep.1? People talk when they pillow, those secrets will now go to Toranaga. Toranaga's son has now won his father more time to have the funeral. Toranaga did'nt say how fast he would travel to Ishido, it could take weeks. The plot thickends. Cheers, Chris Perry.

..here's a twist as this story is based on RL. The Taiko's previous heir was his nephew. One of the rumors was that the nephew was used to impregnate Lady Cha Cha (Ochiba), and then his entire branch of the family was executed!..Whether this was with the full knowledge or behest of either the Taiko or Ochiba is a matter of debate.

Im grasping at straws here but I feel like this episode is a total misdirect, hearkening back to the switcherooo on episode 3. 1. why the heck was Buntaro and Mariko asking their "Last request" to Toranaga? Especially after the reveal of the last episode, it seems dissonant. 2. Then there's the part where Blackthorne speaks rudely to the war assembly in the end but was allowed to just walk even with his titles, probably because he is a barbarian... There must be an exit strategy, as before walking out, Blackthorne names Yabushige, and Nagakado (both trained to handle the cannon regiments). 3. Looking at everyone's expression, Mariko does not seem to surprised, or more importantly, too concerned about the outburst. 4. And also there's the convo with Gin. If they were really about to be wiped out, why did she make those requests, unless she knows something that everyone else don't know. 5. Also, no way Nagakado could just barge his way in into the willow-world like that. Either he was acting independently, or he acted on orders, but his or his uncle's death bought some time. 6. Nagakado entered the willow world AFTER Gin had that interesting conversation with Toranaga, requesting for land in Edo to create what will be the Yukaku district. Coincidence? Was it Nagakado who is supposed to infiltrate? Is even this just a misdirect? 6.1 Nobutatsu is a VIP. No way Nagakado could enter through the front gate without him being directed. And if it’s a back door, he has to have been let in. 7. Why is it that some of the issues already addressed in the previous episode being repeated in this one? Unless they were being repeated because there are a new eyes watching?
