Keep tools in kid's hands and they won't have time for drugs or doing other destructive things. My dad became a concrete and brick mason after returning from Vietnam. He taught me how to work before I learned how to get paid. I worked in automotive shops in the winter time when concrete and construction was slow. My best friend's family owned a welding shop in our home town. I had so many great experiences as a kid, from construction sites to restoring cars, trucks, anything with an engine! At 24 I got into the Elevator Constructors Union, IUEC Local 8. I'll be 40 this year, I've been a foreman for 6 years and now I'm teaching apprentices and my kids how to wrench, weld, build things, raise animals, etc, etc.. I feel blessed by GOD to be able to pass on the skills I've gained from the very talented, old school men that taught me. Stay safe during these uncertain times and GOD bless! 🇺🇸

Proud dad. Good on you. My kid (daughter) did 2 years of welding trade school. AS in welding . She was out in the NW welding turbines at power plants. Spent time in South America doing the same. Things are the sizes of a bus. She is 98lbs and making 6 figures. Invested in real estate and far better off then I. She only came home because of the flu. I got her started. I welded for 20 years putting up signs and billboards. Got my pride marks (scars) lol . Taught her how to SMAW when she was 12. That was it.

I came back to this video to thank you. I was working for a moving company, but I wanted to do something better with my life. I haven’t made the best choices in life, but one of the best choices I’ve made was learning how to weld. I simply just used it to repair things at home and for friends sometimes. I never thought to really do anything with it. After watching this video a little over a year ago, it inspired me to do something with it, so I saved up and bought some tools and gear to start a mobile welding business. I hit the ground running and handed out business cards every day until I started getting work. You weren’t wrong my guy, I made enough with my first three jobs to cover all the equipment I had to buy to get started. The work is there for the taking and I’m taking it. I just wanted to come back and say thank you for the inspiration and motivation to get off my ass and go. I’m double your sons age, but it’s never too late. I made the jump and I couldn’t be happier. My last job earned me more money than I would make in two months at that moving company. I’m turned up to 1000 now and I’m not stopping. Thanks again fellas, I’ll never forget it. 🤙🏼

I Started welding out in the field full time in high school and never looked back! I’m 21 now I started went from basic welding on heavy equipment to being a pressure welder in the boilermaker union now. Did a apprenticeship and 6 months of free school that I was paid to to go too and now it’s easy to make over 100k a year. It’s a awesome career if your down to work with fire!

Man I love welding especially stick.....I learned around 2 1/2 years ago I started with just a 110 flux core Chicago welder that I bought for $100 brand new lol. Then I got into maintenance at work and learned how to mig tig and stick. My dream is to have my own mig and stick. I've been turning a wrench since I was 15 and I'm a bad ass mechanic but my dream is to just weld all day in my shop for myself. I'm 33 now so I'm really starting to feel like I can honestly make a living welding but I'm a ways away from getting my own set up but seeing your boys and your channel really gives me hope that it's still possible so thank you man seriously!

It's great to see how visible your passion is in welding. I share every word with you. I started welding myself when I was 8 years old, and all because of my father. In his workshop I continued his work with my 8 years of age during his coffee break. At the age of 15 I became Dutch national welding champion. This has shaped my career, and I am proud of where I stand now... Welding is the most beautiful profession in the world, and would recommend it to anyone...

This is awesome 👏 My Grandfather was a Naval SeaBee in WWII and welded his whole life after the war. He passed before I was old enough to learn from him. The great thing is, it’s in my blood and I’ve been teaching myself to weld these past few years and love every bit of it. I’m looking forward to learning so much more. I have made my living as a welder, pipefitter, and other things for the last 36 years. It is a good trade and in demand. I encourage younger generations to give it a try it has been good for me. I didn't want to go to college so I learned a trade, there is no shame. Oh, by the way I earn more than the majority of my friends from high school that went to college.... even after 36 years this May!

Got introduced to welding at 16 in my Auto class and it was just something that amazed me and for the 1st time I had an idea of something I seriously might want to do. Now I'm currently 17 a senior at high-school and I have a great friend who is a welder that has offered to teach me. He is only 19 years old and is doing amazing work earning great money, just like 2 weeks ago he bought himself a new 2020 truck and is only getting better with his pay. For my 1st lesson he mostly just let me go at it and where my mistakes were he help me to correct them. Horizontal welding I was pretty good at it, much better than he thought I was gonna do apparently, vertically was pretty bad so I'll have to keep practicing. For a 1st day though it went well and I enjoyed welding a lot, he even gave me a new welding mask and gloves and next time he'll maybe have me actually weld things together. I'm excited to keep learning and hope I can start my career in welding early just like him.

I'm a car mechanic in the uk, when I was 16 I was a apprentice for a Jaguar master tech, he taught me alot about how to properly diagnose and fix cars but since the mid 90's the car industry in the uk solely relied on the guys who were young in the 80's that were actually trained up in workshops stripping and reconditioning things like engines and gearboxes, now in 2020 they are the old guys who are retiring and there is a massive skills gap as companies are only interested in online training, meaning a guy like me who was a average mechanic 20 years ago is now invaluable as I can actually reconditioned stuff which makes me more money, there are still a few kids who want to actually get up off there arse but they are few and far between these days

Mechanics in US are still stuck on paid by commission. Most guys just learn the simple maintenance because that's what ends paying more than more complex repairs or fixing electronics. Sucks because they keep making cars more and more complex, and require special tools, so it's a lot harder for us diy guys to fix it home. The guys at shop don't know how to fix it because that's not it what is giving them good paycheck. Eventually their gonna have change something when all they have is a bunch of oil and tire changers that can't fix anything

I’ve bin fishing oysters and quahogs since I was 9. Bin welding now for about a year now. I’m 18 and work 12 to 12 shifts. Love it.

Just finished my first semester of technical college getting certified in structural and pipe welding can't wait to finish up so I can start getting paid for my welds tired of hearing about how good they are and not having money come with it 😂

@@xoraww1652 I finished up my structural cert about 3-4 weeks ago and Im starting a job close to home making $18.50 it isn't the $30+ and hour I was looking for when I got into welding but it's close to home and it's actually not bad in my area it'll be enough to get me started on building my own rig so I can go chase them big jobs 💪🏽

I’m about to be laid off from aerospace and seriously considering doing something else. Mig welded on a line about 20 years ago. Never could TIG aluminum. May have to give it another try.

That is awesome guys. I now my boy wanted to be just like me and he had some disabilities but he still tried his best. Until last June he had a severe stroke. Now he is just trying to stay alive and relearn what we take for granite but that is enough of the sob story. I am proud of you and your children. Yes welding is a tough job but very rewarding. I love it. Keep up the great work.

Great video. I did a night class on stick welding at when I was 17. I'm now 53. I've learnt to tig and mig. My son's started stick welding at 10. My youngest topped his class in engineering because he could use the tools and felt comfortable with them. I'm glad you showed this as more fathers should be passing this skill down. I trained a young lad to TIG weld he became an amazing welder and became ticketed in his trade. Unfortunately we lost him to suicide. We need to get more of the young guys in to it, as businesses in our country NZ are actually sourcing trades from overseas and it's a right of passage to let our kids have those jobs. I HIGHLY recommend welding! Im 20 years old almost 21 and I went to a very good trade school and took up welding. While I was in school I worked for a fab/job shop locally owned for 1 1/2 years and was the only employee learned everything I could from A very good welder. Now Ive been an Ironworker for 3 years that specializes in welding in the boston area and make anywhere from $1200 a week to $4000 a week, ive built well over 100 buildings, tiny to massive and everything in between, now im seriously considering working for myself in the future simply because there is such a high demand for welding/metalworking and such a crazy amount of money to be made. I own a commercial cleaning business but when I graduated from high school my biggest regret was not following through with school for welding. The guy from New Castle School of Trades came to my house to do all the testing and paperwork but I was young and stupid and thought dealing drugs was where the money was. This was 20 years ago but the drug business was great until everything came to stop, luckily I never got in trouble but very good friends of mine spent years in prison. But my biggest regret was not going to school to learn to weld. Owning a Commercial Cleaning Business is awesome but I think welding and metal work would be so much more fulfilling.

Very well put. I too learned to weld / mechanic from my dad Who came up from a field worker , now my 22 & 23 sons are learning from me the trade,. My eldest son is also a techy geek 👍🏼. I'm 24 now, I've been welding for my company for about 3.5 years now, i Started out at a chemical plant making large stainless and carbon steel tanks, and then i got some experience with pipe, i've got experience in mig hard wire stainless and carbon pipe and structural, dual shield carbon, stick welding pipe and structural, also 309/309l stick welding, I have a tiny amount of experience in Tig welding stainless and aluminum i fucking love it all. So here's what I'm planning to start next month I've worked the numbers and theres enough profitability in building pick up trailers like 100% profit I've got all my materials priced out, at around $1,100.00. on a trailers i can sell for an easy $2-2.5k all day long in my area. I'm in the California hotspot of beach riders/desert off roaders and oil field workers, farmers and agriculture, I have certainly have the right Market or area demographic to move these trailers, I Figure I can bang out one complete trailer in 2 - 2.5 days, After i register them i think i can move at least 3 trailers a month. and that's all i need to buy my own home machine. I can use my jobs shop to make the first couple trailers, and i even got another old welder who used to make trailers who offered to help me out with my trailers. This is just the beginning, I'm so stoked to get into my own thing. It's so freeing to be able to make thousands of dollars on your own without being slave to a desk and keyboard. My main dilemma is figuring out which kind of machine i should buy myself first. should i go with a 220v multi process machine like the miller multimatic ac/dc 220, or the miller multimatic 255, or should i just buy a gasoline stick machine like the ranger 305 or a trailblazer 325 right out of the gate so i can make mobile repairs for people too, i can't decide. making trailers and what not, the miller migs would be perfect, but the gas stick machine is so versatile. I'm lucky to have had at least 3 great welders teach me skills that will last a life time over the past few years.

Pretty cool you're inspiring new people to the craft. I am 66 years old, when I was 18 I went down to the shipyards and learned to weld in the belly of commercial and Navy ships, in 3 months I took and passed my certifications for stick welding and began x-ray welding on ship pumps. I learned at that time that both my grandfathers had been welders, if fact my fathers father had received an appreciation letter from the shipyards here in Portland Oregon for their appreciation during the war for his invention of the welding stinger. I was pretty blown away, obviously welding was in my blood. But an important thing you should stress to everyone including your boys, I ALWAYS protected myself. Demanding proper respirators, earplugs, eye protection and knee pads. I was given a lot of shit from my fellow workers (especially for the knee pads, saying "are those for going down on the boss" etc.) but I remember seeing old workers at the time barely able to walk, some with poor eyesight, coughing and hacking from years of breathing in the toxins, airborne metal and contaminates. I'm sure many never got to enjoy retirement by losing their lives to cancer. And some are lucky, the human body is very resilient, we've all heard the stories of the 100 year old woman who smoked all her life and didn't get cancer. But why chance it? I have welded all my adult life whether it was at work or at home in my garage, today I can see pretty good (reading glasses only) I can walk strait, never had to have knee surgery like many of my welding co-workers, I don't have cancer or mesothelioma. So teach your children well my friend, and protect them. Jack Blodgett

I wish I did what you did my first job was a summer job while I was just starting high school. They made us write down on a piece of paper what or where do you feel I'll be working after high school. I wrote on the paper welding right out of high school. Didn't do that worked in side a whear house and many other job's. Year's later in my late 20's took a night course at a community college and they had a welding course. I took that course and loved it. The instructor asked if I ever welded before I said no that was right after I stick welded a bead. They all thought I was lying. This old man liked my welding work and gave me a chance to work with him. He has his shop right there in Point Richmond where they built the battle ships for WWII next to Chevron. Welded for 13 year's then I had a stroke that set me back. I was at home now small project's off and on my Lincoln welder just went out after about 10 year's of use me and my brother's used it. I went out and got me a new machine to play around with and see how long this machine will last. Oh I regret not getting into welding right out if high school. Now I teach youngers if they want to learn.
