I’m Australian and started a new job recently. The guy in charge there asked me what kind of music I listen to. I had been listening to ‘Sound as ever’ recently and said that I had been listening to You am I. He replied with ‘I’ve never heard of them’ so I played him Berlin chair. He listened to the song and said ‘Yeah, they’re shit’. I don’t work there anymore.

@@Sharetaahjhhshjnajn "Aches" makes sense if you've heard older Australian slang. Belly aching is telling someone your woes / having a whinge. So "If you wait, I'll give all my aches to you", "Take a chance, to ignore what you're going through" - makes sense. Basically - I'll tell you my tale of woe, and you can ignore yours for a while.

You Am I were always the tightest band on any bill they were on. Being that rehearsed let them lash out when they wanted, and still be in sync. Last time I saw them was when they were touring the Hi Fi Way/Hourly Daily anniversary shows. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. I think Tim is perhaps the best song writer Australia has ever produced.

@@Neilios1000 agreed, Tim is an under rated gem. I saw them play support in a pub bar in Chicago one time. After Tim lit the bar on fire the main band came out and chastised the crowd for not appreciating what they had just witnessed. Was a fun gig. A shame they were never able to crack the US.

… If half of what I'm saying, of what I'm saying is true Will you rub my head, make it all shiny and new? And you drag my coat tails, drag my coat tails down And I'll be the only cold assed king around. If you wait I'll give all my aches to you. Take the chance, to ignore what you're going through? My cold hand is there for you to take (If you leave, can I fall down) I'm your Berlin chair, won't you lean on me 'til I break. … I'll ignore each golden, dragging kiss you can give. On the blankest face that you ever had to forgive. If you see my failings, see my failings through. I'm the re-run that you'll always force yourself to sit through. … If you wait I'll give all my aches to you. Take the chance, to ignore what you're going through? My cold hand is there for you to take (If you leave, can I fall down) I'm your Berlin chair, won't you lean on me 'til I break. … Well you're too late. You're too late. You're too late.

The Phoenician. I remember after a young girl OD'd on e it ended up turning into a pokies venue. We started losing a LOT of great venues in Sydney after 1999. Hey, look into Power Pop as a Genre in general you may really really love what you find. Look up the album "Frosting on the Beater" by The Posies. You wont regret it friend. After that if your interest has been peaked look up "International Pop Overthrow" by Material Issue. Power pop ended up evolving into a strange bridge between Punk Rock and The Beatles by the mid 80s onward. Its a great genre and a perfect balance between aggression, desperation, honesty, and existentialism. Good stuff.

They are absolutely killing it. Crowd were quiet then louder and louder as the band started really getting into it. In between songs, some guy yells out "WHOOO ARRRRRE YOOOOU?". Tim replies immediately: "Who are we? Who are you? WHO ARE ANY OF US, WHO THE F&CK KNOWS???? Alright, We're Crosby, Stills & Nash - THANKS FOR PAYING ALL THAT MONEY FOR ALL THAT FREE LOVE PEOPLLLLLE"." Crowd goes nuts.
