We made this and LOVE it! We get a lot of attention from neighbors. We are going to remove one of the doors next year and put in an extra bed. Thank you for posting this and selling us your plan. We also used a heavy wire for the top instead of bird netting so I can train my squash and cukes to grow up and hang. Would post a picture but can't do that here. Thanks again!

Great video as usual! I actually called my ma after watching this to tell her I wanted to do something like this for her backyard in Colorado. Only thing I would comment is, for next time, instead of filling the bottom of the bed with gravel, you can use the Hüglekultur gardening method. Fill in the bottom of the bed with some wood scraps, old stumps and branches, or any other kind of general yard waste. That organic matter breaks down and creates a healthy ecosystem for worms and microbes (also saves on having to buy anything for filler). There's a great video from another KZbin channel called "Self Sufficient Me" that explains it in better detail, but it's just a thought. Keep up the good work, and stay safe!
@YouCanMakeThisToo4 жыл бұрын
Great recommendation! That was also my advice, I'm a big fan of Hüglekultur. But not all the decisions were up to me :). Thanks for watching and good advice, hope you're able to make one for your Ma!

@YouCanMakeThisToo3 жыл бұрын
That all depends on the size and material of the channel you use. Thin gauge aluminum? Nah. Heavy gauge steel set deep? Definitely. Where in between? I don't know. You could always set posts and put channel on the posts for the walls instead of using cleats to screw to.

I bought your plans, but I need to modify them since I also have a 12" difference in elevation. I need the doors installed on the high side however, so I will need to add boards to back. The plans are a bit confusing as to where boards are allocated, so I'm not quite sure what I need to purchase extra of. A cut list based on the lumber requirements would be fantastic

I also see the plans list a single 2x4x12 but there has to be at least 6 since those are used for the pergola beams on top

@@YouCanMakeThisToo - - I'm a farm girl. we do things in the wide open. We grow on the original Hugelkultur mounds that are filed with clean materials like leaves, mulch and dirt. We don't have raised beds in boxes. But I like them if they have the big sides on them like you did these. Many don't put the top portion on which I think is nonsense. But everyone has an opinion. Personally I'd use chicken coop wire if I did it this way. We have 480 acres of growing space. IF we get critters and the dogs will get them. lol
