Have you ever considered an awning for the roadside stand? A good sized and colorful canvas awning would look nice and keep some of the sun out.

That is a good idea. I was going to suggest those heavy plastic strips in the doorway like in warehouses to keep the cool air in. Not very pretty, tho. An all glass storm door maybe?
@surobhisaikia77302 жыл бұрын
Great idea .. and if possible a few shade tree.. around it .. may be cherries 😂
@martinlehtonen2 жыл бұрын
you should get one of those 'pvc strip door' things on the roadside stand door. It would keep the cool in and the hot air out and maybe save some money on electricity aswell. Costomers would still be able to see inside through it.
@Dezedaantje2 жыл бұрын
Yess! This! I wanted to suggest the same. Also they could maybe put a door canopy above the door, so the sun doesn't get a chance to heat up the interior of the roadside stand.
@katrienvh42892 жыл бұрын
yes Dezedaantje, those big, thicker long transparent flaps. You can cut them to size very easy. And/or put a tent over the stand so the sun doesn't hit any of the sides.
@candiceeckelberry75242 жыл бұрын
It’s amazing how a simple barrier like the pvc strips ssooo helps. I had same experience with my basement room when door broke. I was trying to conserve heat and adding a reg curtain really helped.
@ninirossau23042 жыл бұрын
they are not that easy to get through especially with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers in your hands but as a door (like a screen) the pvc would keep the cool and the sight line. and a cute canopy with a red roof would tie in nicely.

Suggestion for the flower stand. Find someone who has a weeping willow tree. Take cuttings (they root very quickly) and plant one on the west side. You could put two on the west side, creating a cooling area given most of our winds come from the west.. Willows like this grow remarkably fast. Alternative is bushes that tolerate dry, hot temperature. Just a bit of shade cuts the heat by 5°C.

The red roof on your tent is reflective of your name, but it also puts a red cast on your flowers making the true colors hard to see. (If you ever go into a paint store and try to see true color under fluorescents you'll understand the importance.) Is there any way you can get a color neutral tent top? Especially in the heat the red cast from your tent roof, not only masks the true flower colors but must make it seem even hotter underneath it to passerby. Just a thought...

A red awning on the stand would be a great idea for keeping the sun out and would look so cute with the door! I haven't read through all the comments and don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but some grocery stores have these strips of heavy clear vinyl hanging in doorways to the back storage areas so that the cooler air stays in the storage area, but you can still see through and walk through them. Something like that might help keep in some cooler air. And when the weather is more temperate, you can easily clip them to one side so that they're out of the way. Those bouquets were gorgeous this week - the one with mostly white daisy type flowers and some yellow was my favorite, as was the dramatic dark one. Wish I lived closer!

A couple of suggestions I might add. Have you considered a lower tier level on your stand as it would space out the flowers more. Easier on the eye. Also I would suggest a black covering cloth not the brown one as it will make your colours pop more as the cloth and brown paper kinda makes things look a bit flat. Also have you considered a small cooler ice pack in each of the buckets to keep your water cold.

Maybe consider putting a glass door on the roadside shop with a big sign that says "Come On In, We're Open" on the glass. And that way you can maintain the appearance of an open door/open shop without losing the air. Maybe glass door as 2nd door so that at night it can be looked up with solid wood/metal door.

glass door would let the sun heat up the stand more.

Still doing great despite the heat! Excellent! Gorgeous bouquets as usual - which doesn't lessen the impact! I see in the comments the idea to put an awning over the shed entrance - that's a fabulous idea. Also, someone suggested a glass storm door. Also a fabulous idea. The combo of the two will provide shade while letting folks see inside, and help the air conditioner not work so hard. 🍒🍒🍒 I'm a cherry-holic too. Can't afford to buy them except once or twice a season. Wish I had the room to plant a cherry tree!

A faux door or magicians door with an open and closed sign on it. Just a permanent board/wall put up that’s 2 foot (ish) out from the real door. The board blocks the sun and the customers can walk in from either side. Also an air curtain will help hold the cold air in while also keeping flies and bugs out.

Passive income idea! Maybe you can reach out to local photographers that might be interested in using your farm as a photoshoot location for graduation photos or engagement photos for a small fee. Also you could list your farm on Wedding wire/ the knot as a photography location to have great passive income during the summer months! Maybe the booking comes with a flower crown or boquet for the person to hold during photos. :)

Oooh this is a really interesting idea - as long as it doesn’t conflict with flower farming operations! (I could imagine “ruining” shots by being in the background and needing to plan farming around the photos, which probably wouldn’t be worth it.)

Pretty good market with it being super hot out. I loved the black Lily $40 bouquet. So beautiful!! I just noticed that in your first few shots of the market that the red tent cover was casting a red hue onto your flowers. Maybe not the same when in person, but maybe another color would make the flowers pop more. Im sure theres some psychological answer to this. But it is the name of your farm so there is that too. Just an observation! Happy summer guys : ) PS jealous of your cherry trees. My bing cherry is dying and I’ve only ever gotten one fruit off it. Haha 😛 😢 oh well cant win them all.

We don't know for sure, because so much is just self serve. But we do have a handful of people who are buying flowers to always have a fresh bouquet. Then a handful of people who buy monthly as a treat. We also have some people that use us as their go to gift - will order larger bouquets for birthdays and pick up a small bunch for hostess gifts. The community near us is very large and I feel we still have a lit more customers that we can develop through word of mouth, ect over the next few years, and grow the stand to double the sales. The more we sell out of it, the more options we can stock daily, making it even more desirable to shop at, and basically snowballing it to become even better
