HOW I REVIEW:
As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
AFFILIATE LINKS:

Thanks Bo. Big fan of Able Carry. Quality is always top notch. I have ordered this bag. I like to use this type of bag for discreetly carrying a camera and want to easily access when on the move. I do not want a compartment that fully opens. The risks of a spill are too high for me.

Ooh, great point about having to adapt to bag's compartments and changing your organisation style.

Excellent video! I was deciding between the Black Ember and The DAYFARER, and finally pre ordered the V2 which is cheaper, I love black ember for not having an outside water bottle pocket but the quick compartments on the V2 got me.

@@Youknowthebo I’m loving the able carry and the modern dayfarer, and tbh I’m still thinking to get which, and would like some advice. I generally like the modern for the very versatile carry options, it can kind of put whatever you gives it, and handle it well. But what makes it different from the general big empty pack is the very well designed quick access pockets, which I think almost is a must in urban packs. The able carry has an also very well designed organization and quick access, I’m more worried about the versatility, I want a general daypack and I’m not sure what I’ll buy that day or carry that day. The able carry internal water bottle makes me think that it affects the way I pack and versatility just as you said in the video. Moreover, it’s size is smaller and stuck the laptop sleeve inside the main compartment which I don’t prefer and also affects the organization. I’m going to take a look of both of these in a local store, but may I ask about your packing style (I guess you would prefer the able carry more) and would you find these problems to be a concern? I would like to hear some advice about how the backpack fits in your packing options (like how much you carry and so on)!

Very good comparison in Bo style, specially between Able Carry and Black Ember ones. About the second one I am a bit concerned about that opened inside pouch, and perhaps considering the 26L instead of the 22L version. I think when you open the bag completely, stuff might go out from the pouch. Ouside that the BE is a sharp designed bag.

Great video! Have you considered doing a side by side comparison of the Modern Dayfarer and the Bellroy Venture? They seem rather similar design-wise

Great review Bo, thanks. As you mentioned, the tech kit is too small of the Shadow, I still haven't found a way to use it. In my case I want a backpack to go to the office and I think the Modern Dayfarer has the best look for an office enviroment, the Daily Plus and the Shadow 26 fit better in another surroundings. I do not have the Daily Plus but I have the Max and it is a great backpack for travelling. I have the Black Shadow 26 and also I have an small dog at home so you can imagine, the cloth is a magnet for hair and fluff.

Thank you so much for making this video! Because of it, I have no desire to purchase any of these, as none seem to fit my needs. That's money saved that I can put toward another bag. Looking forward to the next vid!

I also like inner compartments and a water proof cover. So my children now have rolltop bag back. My bag back has a rain cover which is fine for me.

I bought the Dayfarer V1 and at first really enjoyed it. But after awhile the bag feels clumsy and unwieldy. Either too heavy or doesnt mold to my back. Am again or search for my next EDC. Thanks for the reviews Bo! Looking at the plc20 or the heimplanet commuter

I got the dayfarer(V1) in VX21, mostly due to price and availability though, I think if black ember mixed the shadow and the citadel they would really have something.

Hey Bo, I've been enjoying your videos for years! thanks for all the backpack content. definitely my favorite on youtube. I'm looking into buying the cotopaxi allpa 28L clamshell back pack. i really like the clamshells that split in the middle like a suit case in the 20-35L volume range. do you have other packs i should take i look at?

@John Michael Lim if you never had one of those bags before and are sure, that this is what you wan't, I'd rather not recommend it for a sub 30l bag, cuz it limits backing a lot imo. I bought the Alla 42L for my wife exactly because it packs like a suitcase and she doesn't like to use packing cubes, but when I compare it to my 30 or 40 liter bag, the compartments are rather limiting, even with about 1/3 extra capacity. That said, if you are sure, that this is what you want, go for it, the build quality is really good for the price and we used it for good without any issues. The Hipbelt could be a bit more pronounced/compfy for the 42L model, but I don't think, that this is an issue for the 28L model.

Thank you very much, John. Really appreciate for being this long watching my videos. There are a lot of great clamshell bags. I guess it comes a little bit down to what you want to use it for. If you plan on traveling then you want to go up in volume but also choose a bag with less organization and space for packing cubes. If it is for the office and you don't pack with cubes then you might want lots of compartments. And I would go with something around 20l. There are a bunch of bags that are great. Able Carry Max, blackember Forge, Evergoods or aer are the bags/brands that come to my mind right away

Nice. I tend to like the Black Ember. I use the pen slot for carrying a small flashlight or torch as my UK friends call them sometimes more usual than a pen. 😀 My "EDC" pen is a Fisher bullet pen which I keep in my front pocket. LOL I actually use all kinds of pens but I tend to like the G2 and a Fisher regular pen.

great reviews! Just wanna ask if you find the Daily Plus uncomfortable when it is full? Coz I’m used to bags under 2kg, and found the weight of Daily Plus quite substantial on my shoulders even under light loads (not uncomfy though).
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I find it to be quite comfortable. But I think this is a very subjective matter. For instance, I know a lot of people who are very comfortable with the TAD axiom. But I found that it did not work well with my body shape and therefore was quite uncomfortable

I had the able carry max Of course they are extremely well made but I think it is overkill 1. Heavy 2. Who really have 1 backpack in a life? 😅 3. Too much organization = packs less than the stated capacity So I had to sell it Just got evergoods PLC20 though, this is also extremely well made but I think it is simple enough to really enjoy its 20l capacity

Is the daily plus significantly smaller than the max? Would it be redundant to have both? They look similarly bulky from the outside despite the difference in internal capacity.
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo Жыл бұрын
Hey Alan. The max is definitely bulkier and bigger. The let's say slanted or trapezoid form of the daily makes it much more edc friendly. But that being said the 30L Max carry on bag can be utilized as a daily bag as well depending on your size and needs.

Abel carry or GR1 21l and why? 🙏 😬
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo Жыл бұрын
Good question. Both are great, but have very different approaches. I love my goruck, but the older I get the less I want to carry something that has some military look tbh. From a usability standpoint I prefer the GoRuck though. The main compartment is easier to load and utilize.
@ran6974
@ran6974 Жыл бұрын
@@Youknowthebo thanks Bo. I have the GR1 and it’s taken me about a year to get my head around the organisation (or lack of) but I do love it. Recently I got a bag kind of similar to the Abel carry but whilst I liked the organisation and minimal look, it just didn’t feel anything like as durable as the gr1 so I returned it. I’ve since zip tied a pouch similar to the Topo pouches on the molle inside and that gives me two quick (ish) access pockets which works well. I realise that the goruck is just super versatile and whilst not perfect in every situation it’s damn close. I know what you mean about the tactical look though. I might progress to a slick one day 🙂 That said, if you’d said hands down the Abel carry, I probably would have bought that anyway 🤣
