The eye-snatch is such a great gimmick to finish off Elle because it's telegraphed about 10 times before it happens. Back in Part 1, we even see Beatrix snatch an eye out of one of the Crazy 88 and then the screen turns black and white, so we already know she has the skill to do it. The showdown in the hallway also zooms into both their eyes the entire time, almost taunting the audience like "this... this is her weakness, but did you pay attention to the Checkov's Gun back in the first half?" Of course, the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique is also telegraphed ahead of time prior to the Pai Mei scenes too. Even Elle's murder of Budd is telegraphed because she seems to favor poison for assassinations. She was going to lethally inject Beatrix in her coma, and she ended up killing Budd with snake venom to cast suspicion on Beatrix rather than herself. A large part of why this non-sequential story works so well is due to the writing setting things up well in advance for each set piece or shock moment.

David Carradine ('Bill') used to star in a TV series called 'Kung Fu' back in the 70's. The over the top sound effects and foot stuck in the crotch during her initial fight with pai mei was in homage to the shaw brothers martial arts films during the 70s (both films were)--specifically, a movie called Executioners From Shaolin, which featured Pai Mei (the white browed priest) as a villain who was virtually invincible and could actually (no joke) move his genitals internally from his crotch to his, ahem, head. And when the protagonist kicked him in the grapenuts, he could vacuum suck the guy's foot so it would get stuck and drag him on the ground before killing him. I kid you not. The training of the short-range punch and eating scenes were from another Shaw Brothers film called, Shaolin Martial Arts.

My favorite part in either volume is when Bud's Zippo blows out. Zippos are supposed to be "wind-proof" so the symbolism of the flame being snuffed out by a gentle breeze is great. It makes you think Bea is about to easily and casually take Bud out so when he blasts her and is just casually walking around her it twists your expectations. That whole sequence from Bud getting home to her marching out of the graveyard is my favorite also. It feels like a horror movie vignette right in the middle of a Samurai Western.

One of my greatest desires is for Tarantino to make a sequel, especially considering nearly the perfect amount of time has passed. Vernita Green's daughter and The Bride's daughter would be grown. Elle Driver didn't die, she just lost her eye. Sofie Fatale just lost her arm. There are more than enough working pieces in place for another film, and Tarantino's creative enough where it wouldn't just be a Kill The Bride movie.
@Ivy94F2 жыл бұрын
Poor sofie lost BOTH arms, remember?
@yourneighborhoodxenos2 жыл бұрын
While I totally endorse this idea, I do think it's very possible Elle Driver died out there. The trailer is far from anywhere and not on any identifiable road. There's an old phone, but that was more than likely misplaced and broken in the fight. The Bride took Elle's car, if I remember correctly, and Elle won't be able to navigate back anywhere blind. Not to forget, the Black Mamba that can and probably would bite the flailing or crawling Elle. The way I see it, The Bride buried Elle alive and blind, in a sense, like Bud did to The Bride quite literally, with the trailer and desert as her coffin and dirt. Obviously, she's a member of DVAS like The Bride and could have very well escaped, but I personally never considered her as alive by the end of all that.
@HarrisTheHeckler2 жыл бұрын
@@yourneighborhoodxenos Absolutely. But the fact that we don't actually see her die makes it perfectly viable that she could have made it. Having her return in a potential sequel, highly motivated, as the only DVAS member still alive would create a better story in my opinion.

Bang bang at the end, I never caught that that was a reference to the intro song.

Tarantino has released in limited runs a version that combines Vol 1 & Vol2 which he calls "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair"...which I have seen twice at Tarantino's own theater here in L.A....The New Beverly Theater. There has been a cry for him to release "The Whole Bloody Affair" on home video but he has so far refused. BTW...The Whole Bloody Affair has a few extended scenes and one new short scene.

23:00 See!!! Remember I told you that pluck to the eyeball had a backstory and you saw that and killed Bill volume 1. Pai Mai told Beatrix that he wanted that arm to be strong and that that arm belongs to him well if you to see what happened.

I like how you censor all the swearing except for that tasty c-bomb at the end! 😄

The actor who played Pai Mei and the Crazy 88 who fought her on the restaurant railing (Johnny Mo) are played by the same person - Gordon Liu

Bill's Superman story - he also could have chosen Wonder Woman since she has to wear the persona of Diana Prince in public. Both are DC but one is female-

14:25 actually it shows how great his kung fu is. In the old legends if your a master, you can get weightless for short bursts. Thats why they jump like superheroes and run up walls in the old movies.

I've always enjoyed how the scenes go from ridiculous over the top in 1 to more grounded (but not necessarily realistic) in part 2, ending with almost just dialogue. Carradine's portrayal of a Bill as loving, if psychotic father is fantastic.

Back in the 1970s David Carradine who played Bill starred in a unusual western about a Buddhist monk who wandered through the old west quoting Chinese proverbs and beating up western bad men. Sometimes he played the flute.

I’m sure someone has said this but the actor who played Esteban is the same as the Sheriff from the wedding rehearsal scene.

Well Shang Tsung was actually inspired by Lo Pan from Big Trouble in little China.... But I see the resemblance.

@@tonyyul703 now that I think of it, I wouldnt be surprised if Mai Pei was inspiration for the character Shujinko from MK Deception, similar colors and design :)

THANK YOU for showing the Bride's name reveal. So many other reactors ask why they keep bleeping her name out, then never show their reaction to the reveal . . .
