Frank (Barney) sounds like pure Jersey, with a New York swagger, and he has this scene in the palm of his hand, Doris Day as Lori is her perky self, and the contrast between them is "smokey", as intended. Ethel Barrymore (Aunt Jesse) proves in a few lines, that she can hold her own with ol blue eyes.

strange; I read comments that this movie isn't 'known'... I must say, here in belgium this movie already was broadcasted couple of times on the non-commercial channel. i know this movie 'by heart'; i guess i saw this late 70's, early 80's; and since then, whenever they played the movie, i stayed home to watch. unfortunately, those kind of movies aren't broadcasted anymore... yet, i am sure there is a crowd that really love old movies like this one!

This is so difirent from all the characters I've seen Sinatra play. He's ussually the unsure guy who gets the girl on the side but hes so terse and arrogant! I love it!

This is a great great movie.Frank is at his very best.Gig Young and Doris Day are icing on the cake. Nr.9 is cute..and what can you say about the grand old lady, Ethel Barrymore, who was practically wheelchair bound at the time and was in agony with back pain. Terrific movie and very sad in places. I really loved Elisabeth Fraser(Doris's sister in the movie)

Well, I'm afraid we've seen our best days in this format. What we have today is lacking in substance. I'd say what we see nowadays is so indicative of where we live today and what we are fed. Our food is spoiled and so the people who prepare it. Thank God for these gems to enjoy; there are many.
