"It's weird" Possible meaning 1: This is terrible it doesn't work and it's without value Possible meaning 2: This is hard for me to figure out, it's a different motion from any I've ever learned in boxing, it's unfamiliar. Kid meant possibility 2

Of course you understand that it's a great defensive technique. Doesn't change that starting some striking forms and learning advanced techniques feels weird though. Everything that makes it feel weird is what makes it extra powerful or more defensive. The extra twist in your hips when you bring your leg kick down like a chop, the twist in your back while you're looking over your shoulder throwing a spinning kick, and using your shoulder to roll and block the punch

Shoot the punch from your shoulders not with your hands if that makes sense, one drill you could do is bring your hands up and down by using your shoulders keep the elbow close to to your ribs hand by your chin and in front of you this will give you the mind and body connection which also helps turning your defensive movements into offensive ones. Good luck and keep boxing. This dude in the video is struggling because even though his form is not bad he is still arm punching. Which causes bad form not just when punching but also defending and then firing back quickly since it is the slower and more sloppy version of a real boxing strike. Also arm conditioning using dumbbells is a must this includes the wrist forearm triceps biceps and shoulders. Without conditioning the repeatative impact of throwing and absorbing punches does not only affect your striking but also your health. In short punch from your shoulders and move your feet with your hips. And not the other way around like most guys do.

@@ephraimcampos5232 spot on! Most guys who struggle with the philly shell I personally have found to be guys who arm punches or tend to do wing chun style strikes or lack the arm strength and experience sometimes all of the above. But the shell is much more than just defense it teaches you about awareness in terms of bio mechanics with boxing strikes and is under rated in my opinion Floyd jr tends to slap his punches in social media videos but that is only because he has brittle hands but earlier on he also use to turn his punches over like a proper boxer should and is the key to mastering the true philly shell like Frazier used it.

Everyone learns different . Not all good boxer's make great trainer's , gotta understand each boxer as a person first to see what gets them to learn , what triggers there interested . Very phycological , so sometimes they see it as a waste of time . Most could learn , teaching is a gift .

The shoulder roll is a lot harder to implement in the ring than people realize. I've seen a lot of guys try to use it and end up getting hurt.

Sir, with due all respect, I think not everybody is an out-fighter at the beginning, some fighters need to take the abuse for 2 or 3 years before they realize they have to box smart! I was the same at the starting days, it last for 1.5 years!

Shoulder roll is tough to get used to.. most people naturally take a full step back. Shoulder roll is a half step and not easy getting used to that risk because of how minimal the movement is. Brings your nerves out a little at first. However this technique is what separates average boxers from great boxers.

Idk how but I learned the philly shell naturally without being taught. No one at my gym uses it or teaches it, I just started using it when I first started training and its worked for me. Though I will say it’s weird learning hands up after training that way from the start.

@drewtheboxer5125
@drewtheboxer5125 3 жыл бұрын
@@realamericannegro977 no because I learned it before I had a coach. So my current coach just added in to my style. But he also taught me how to fight with my hands up so it balances out. I think he’d only get mad if I didn’t know what I was doing with it and tried to force it just to be like mayweather or something. Which is why a lot of people learn the Philly. I learned it on accident and it works when I need it to so he has no problem with it
