I had stage 3 colon cancer emergency surgery last January, was in a coma 8 days, total hospital and rehab one month. Then COVID hit so I delayed chemo, my oncologist said I had a 60% chance of being cancer free without chemo so I took that path. I am 73 with no grandchildren to watch grow and that was part of my decision. At my 8th month labs and CT scan, cancer free! Everyone has to make the decision along with your oncology team and since the pandemic was so new, they agreed to delay chemo a few months. I got lucky. Get the colonoscopy early with any symptoms...I was stupid to wait so many years with unresolved anemia and IBS symptoms. Denial was my game. Not now, so I share my story. Happy in the USA.

Never, never take bleeding in your stools lightly. It could be a death sentence if ignored, but caught early it could save your life. Insist on a Colonoscopy if there is blood in your stools no matter what age you are.I was wrongly diagnosed with a hemorrhoid. I am not young. Have done 5 weeks of Chemoradio therapy, now waiting for an operation. I might have to lose my rectum and anus due to a mis diagnosis and have a colostomy bag for life. So anyway thanks for your heart felt video and good luck forever.

Hi just thought I would let you know I am a fit n healthy 57 years but was diagnosed with colon cancer and after firstly having chemo and radiotherapy which saw me cancer free for 12 months. The cancer returned and just had the anus removal. Was in hospital for 16 days and from day one of surgery I could not believe how easy I went through the treatment . After day two I no longer needed any painkillers and everything is healing nicely. This was my experience and others may differ but can only say positive things about it. I also quickly adapted to the stoma Hope this helps All the best 👊

@@michaelhillier1377 they say if you can get passed the two year mark after the chemo/rad you will probably not get a reccurance. It was a trial that they thought was worth a try as I was luckily diagnosed early. The gold standard is to have the cancer surgically removed but I was reluctant to have the bag so gave the chemo trial a go. Hindsight says I should have gone straight for the surgery as now I have the to face whatever the side affects that may come from the chemo/rad. If you do go down the same road try not to worry too much as life still goes on and you can still do the same things you did before I am thee months in now and just got back from a three day break up in the lakes and coped fine. In fact I had a weekend break just 8 weeks after surgery. All the best Michael

She’s about to be 13 and I have four kids following her. The medical industry always told me that they would be tired if they had that many kids like me and they were always ready to chop my symptoms up to pregnancy or irritable bowel syndrome because just like you, I’m young and I’m a female. It’s really unfortunate that it made it all the way to stage four before anyone is helping me now.

I don't understand why, in this day and age, when there are so many cases in people who are not deemed in the 'at risk category, why it isn't standard practice to hand out the 'poop test' kit if anyone has any kind of intestinal symptoms. My colon cancer was found by an annual sample test, then confirmed with a colonoscopy and CT scan. I was VERY lucky, it was just before Covid hit and I escaped with only surgery. My descending colon was narrowed by half, by a sizeable tumour. Having been told years ago that there was no reason for any intestinal symptoms and that I had IBS, I had no idea anything was wrong.

If your doctor says no , then ask them for routine colonoscopy Or endoscopy procedure. Possible diseases could be ulcers, ibs, ibd (ulcerative colitis or chron's) or polyps or colon cancer Do not wait!!!!!! For the love of God. Polyps are precancerous and can be removed but it gets colon cancer, you are allowing yourself to go into helll... Plz... Listen

Oh come on people. Thank God for doctors. Obviously not all doctors are created equal but doctors are not trained in the same area nor do they have the same experience in terms of quantity or experiences in terms quality. So of course people have to pay attention to their bodies, go in for check ups regularly, and get multiple opinions from multiple experts if you suspect something. And if you suspect something is wrong, then insist on understanding what’s going on. Get scans and blood work and don’t rely on some family doctor or PA to diagnose your colon cancer simply by pushing on you abdomen or listening to your chest. I’m not a doctor, but I ‘m so grateful for them and for the technology we have nowadays. Doctors are not gods. They have to troubleshoot and are expected to repair the most complex system probably in the universe, the human body. I have been working on computers for a long time but I can’t say I always figure out the problems. Imagine finding problems with a perfectly functioning system.

Very inspiring. Unfortunately, this is Canadian reality when you have to fight for your appointments. So, stressful. How many days did you stay at the hospital for the surgery?

Unfortunately, due to lack of training or understanding? or a busy schedule?, doctors brush off symptoms on many people, both the young and the old. In my case I noticed that they were brushing off everything on my parents because of their age. Everything for them was age related. If I asked them a question, instead of saying honestly they did not know they would just say it is age related. I hate doctors who rush, who do not explain things and who blame everything on age. Stay away from these !!!!!!!!!!! A good doctor will listen. That is the difference and it will be the difference to your life. A cousin of mine in another country was told that to get a colonoscopy she had to have symptoms which is wrong, so you get all kinds of people brushing you off for one reason or another, ultimately the reins of life are in your hands and only you, like you say in this video, can control your own future by moving on and looking somewhere else for a better doctor because not all doctors are the same. A lot of them are making mistakes. I have seen a lot of this. I say to these doctors enough is enough. My God, they should either leave their field of work or go back to school or something.
