This is one of the best westerns. Most of the events are accurate, in both Young Guns 1 and 2. Its really crazy that it all happened in such a short time span. Billy the Kid was about 19 when his career started, and he was fluent in Spanish. He was allegedly killed by Garrett at Billy's girlfriend's estate. However, no one positively identified the man shot in the dark as Billy. They just buried him, thus starting a legend that is still to this day, whether or not he survived.
@bbwng542 жыл бұрын
I don't agree that this is one on the "best" westerns- far from it. This doesn't hold a candle versus classics like The Wild Bunch, High Noon, The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Magnificent Seven, Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid, Shane, The Searchers, etc. It's nothing more than a movie to entertain the masses.

One of the best westerns? I don't know about that. Personally, I like it very much because it's so unabashedly eighties, and of course it's the only brat pack western (if you don't count part two), but it's cheesy and doesn't take itself too seriously. And boy, do they play fast and loose with the history - yes, they get some points vaguely right, but "accurate" these movies definitely aren't. (The actual history which was waaayyy less exciting would make for a somber, slow tv movie.) Still fun, though.

I really think it's a crime Emilio Estevez did not get an Oscar for his role in second part of this movie. He was big teen star in the 80s and kind of peaked with this role, especially in second movie. Don't know why he never became a superstar in the 90s and just disappeared from mainstream. He wasn't even 30 when part 2 came out but it was like an end of his career.
@patrickflanagan37622 жыл бұрын
Estevez did have those MIGHTY DUCK movies in the '90s, but he transitioned from acting into writing and directing and he's still making movies. His movie BOBBY was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture back in the 2000s. It sounds like he really hated being famous for the most part and found it to be a huge distraction to living his life, not to mention seeing how being famous almost killed his brother Charlie.
@frozen17622 жыл бұрын
@@patrickflanagan3762 I know that it was partially his decision, but it was strange. When 90s came he had second part of this movie coming out, his best role. He was just 28, you would expect his star to explode and instead he just disappears. From leading man, A list material to some stupid kid's movies and just a couple of support small roles overnight. It's similar to Chevy Chase in the 90s but he was getting old and already super established not a young man.

The Lincoln County War was an actual event, set off by the murder of John Tunstall. Many of the characters in the movie did exist but the events are highly fictionalized. William Bonnie and Pat Garrett were friends (Garrett worked for another rancher, John Chisum) and it was Garrett that eventually would end up tracking down Billy the Kid, and kill him. Another older Western, 'Chisum' with John Wayne, is also based on the Lincoln County War, and shows how William Bonnie began working for Tunstall.

One of my favorite westerns. It's based on the events of the Lincoln County war. Fun fact the guy playing Pat Garrett is the son of John Wayne also Tom Cruise is on of the army men at the end of the movie on the gatlin gun.

It needs to be mentioned that the "regulators" sound clip was the beginning of one of the biggest rap/hip-hop songs of the 90's; "Regulate" by Warren G. This film had many cultural impacts in its time.

Billy the Kid's run as an outlaw began after the Murphy-Dolan group murdered his employer and mentor John Tunstall. It was part a back and forth conflict between rival factions over merchant and cattle grazing, revenge killings where a hallmark of it. Ironically both factions imploded because of the losses they took in the end. The Lincoln County war sure was something.

REGULATORS! Mount up! This is easily one of my favourite movies ever made. The cast, as you said, is STACKED, the script is great, the action is great (and mostly un-choreographed), and yeah it's fairly closely based on real events. There are some liberties taken - like the real Steve and Charlie both survived this shootout, and there were actually more Regulators in the gang - but by all accounts it's one of the most accurate Billy The Kid movies made, at least by that point. Fun facts: the 4th guy shot when Charlie bursts out of the house firing wildly was Tom Cruise, Pat Garrett was played by John Wayne's son Patrick, and according to Wikipedia there's a 3rd movie in the works

Maximum Overdrive is a terrible movie, everyone involved with it thought so, Stephen King directed it and said he will never direct another movie because it was so bad. if you want to watch a good movie of Emilio Estevez , watch Wisdom. Stars himself, Demi Moore and Tom Skerritt. Estevez wrote and directed it, he was in his early 20’s, so very young for him to do all roles. Well worth a watch Other good movies of his, That Was Then This Is Now, Outsiders, Stakeout ( with Richard Dreyfus )
