I was 19 running a 63 meter better than it's everyday operator. I've found out it just comes down to whether you have that pump gene

@@dylanwoods523I find the biggest difference between good pump operators and the button pusher crowd is that most good operators have that extra bit of care and pride which they put into their work. I’ve seen many struggle in this profession year after year only because they didn’t put just that little bit of extra effort into thinking/planning 1-2 steps ahead throughout the course of their day. Hunter definitely has the “pump gene”. His old man Morrie is one of, if not THE best pump operator in our area.

@@canadianconcretepumper1979 alot of it can depend on your training. If your trainer doesn't have the "pump gene" and just pushes buttons it can be harder to reach your potential. Luckily I had the privilege of being trained by multiple people. One of which is by far the best pump operator I've seen in Tennessee. Being able to pick and choose the best parts of each operators routine can really give you an advantage. A long with adding your own twist.

At 20 I was thrown in a 38z. Trained for a few months and the rest is history. 23 now and have ran 38, 39, 47. I wouldn’t trade my job for any other blue collar work. I’ve always said that shotcrete/line-pumping is some most invaluable experience we can acquire as pumpers. Definitely a steep learning curve with regards to slumps and “temperament” of concrete. Thank you for watching brother.

It’s cool to slam the meters down, Each day is specific the the day itself. As the margins become thinner and thinner in this game, as a business owner, if I can invoice for 10 hours and pump 8 meters and burn a 1/4 tank of fuel, now I’m making money. Again , each job is specific! Keep up the killer content Scott. As Scott says, it’s easy, till it isn’t!!
@scotta6382 Жыл бұрын
Yes a owner operator myself each day definitely different and yes would rather do fewer yards for more $ way easier on the machine.
@canadianconcretepumper1979 Жыл бұрын
So true. Years ago there was a study (perhaps by ConForms, I cannot recall exactly) showing the exponential increase in pressure/wear to the boom pipeline as output volume is increased. At one point near the upper end of the scale it showed that an increase in pumping speed of just 10 cubic yards per hour effectively increased line pressure and wear by something like 30%. Really goes to show its all about finding that sweet spot. Then of course you get the guys that just want to hammer out every load as fast as possible just so they can go sit in the cab an wait for the next truck to arrive. If I can saver 20% on fuel and equipment wear " tear I've quite literally doubled my profit margins for the day.

@canadianconcretepumper1979 Жыл бұрын
Yes sir. Both Putzmiester and Alliance sell them. I only really find it necessary to use when sucking back two sponges as the water loaded in front of the second sponge tends to flush the first sponge right through into the hopper (potentially chopping it).

Canada is a very large mass of land. Annual earning can range from 60-70 thousand in more rural areas, up to $200K in more densely populated urban areas. The regions with higher earnings potential also tend to have exponentially higher costs of living. $200K may sound like a lot, but in areas like Vancouver where the average detached home is sitting at 2 million + dollars, it’s still cigarettes and food stamps 😁😁😁

This is at the Richmond Center shopping mall. They’ve dug up all of the street level parking at the east side of the mall and are replacing it with I believe 9 towers (14-ish stories each).

Do you get the hose clean enough by sucking water through 3ish times or do you still to rinse it out? I’ve never thought of this method!!
@canadianconcretepumper1979 Жыл бұрын
Hose is nice and squeaky clean doing it this way. With something like a bridge deck mix it may not necessarily be the case, but for the vast majority of materials which we pump, this works great.

Anytime I'm pumping a deep slab like this I tell the hose guy to go away only need him when topping up and with nobody on the hose can pump faster because don't have to worry about hitting the guy with the hose
@canadianconcretepumper1979 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s a common frustration. Sometimes it can be beneficial if they’re aiming the flow of concrete between the rebar (bar is spaced tightly or mix is sticky/piling up), but for the most part I agree, just leave the damn hose alone boys! I swear it gets worse during the winter because the hose guy is just wanting to keep warm 😂

Big time. Having nobody on the hose actually makes it easy for me to fill. Stay away until top up.

Most definitely. These days the biggest challenge is ready mix supply. Truthfully, in our market there’s really not much advantage anything bigger than a 16 cell pump kit. With the logistical challenges we face being located within a dense, urban centre, we just end up waiting on concrete anyhow. That being said, the guys at Lafarge were on point this day 👌👌👌
