According to Lincoln historians. The actual lines spoken were Billy from the window exclaiming "Hello Bob" at which point Bob stopped cold in his tracks and was seen an heard saying. "I'm dead." and Billy shot him. Billy was in NO rush to escape the town. Since all the law men were dead. Billy when out on the balcony of the courthouse still in chains and was up there for an hour. Hamming it up dancing and talking to people passing on the street. Lincoln considered Billy a Folk hero and supported the Regulators. Finally, after an hour Billy got tired left to get his chains cut at a local Black Smith. Before leaving a 1 1/2 hour later. Before he left the Balcony though he shot Bob's corpse a second time. Broke the shot gun (which was Bob's) and threw it down on his body and left. Bob tortured and tormented Billy while in custody and was a supporter of the other faction in the town. To this day it remains a Mystery on how Billy got the gun. The outhouse idea is just a theory. But not widely accepted by historians.
@stevenwalker90139 ай бұрын
I read a theory somewhere, can’t remember where. That supporters of the regulators had hid pistols at different locations where they thought they might keep them if they ever got caught. Possible I guess. But, most likely billy had a plan for someone to bring him one

John Meadows- (A Lincoln County resident and friend) “He must have had good stuff in him, for he was always an expert at whatever he tried to do. When he was rough, he was rough as men ever get to be…too awful rough at times, but everything in the country was rough back then. He done some things I can’t endorse, but Kid certainly had good feelings.” On the Kid's killing of Bell and Olinger: “Kid told me exactly how it was done. He said he was lying on the floor on his stomach, and shot Bell as he ran down the stairs. Kid said of this killing, ‘I did not want to kill Bell, but I had to do so in order to save my own life. It was a case of having to, not wanting to.’” As for Olinger, Meadows recalls the Kid saying: “I stuck the gun through the window and said, ‘Look up, old boy, and see what your getting,’ Bob looked up and I let him have both barrels right in the face and breast. I never felt so good in all my life as I did when I pulled the trigger and saw Olinger fall to the ground.” Meadows... “Olinger was mean to him. In talking about it with me, Kid said, ‘He used to work me up until I could hardly contain myself.’”
