Yea if he wasn’t so desperate to kill superboy he could of just used his super speed to escape before the bomb went off because kryptonians can fly at fast speeds. The way he flew to the lava that’s no where near the full speed of kryptonian flight basically they run slower on ground but they can basically fly the same speed as a speedster tbh if they want to.

For starters he knew a kryptonian died on mars and if the timeline showed no changes (since superboy came out of phantom zone) he offered rocket to go back right at the moment when he knew the phantom kryptonians will now loose and lor zod will escape with the pod so he purposely set the time to take him back those events just last enought that superboy would still survive the blast and he would be the one to die bringing things back to full circle

Yes and no, how? Metron is one of the beings that more or less neutral between chaos and order by observing timelines and setting up similar events to occur. If he does his job well enough, he is offered some way, shape or form of compensation.

I liked how this gave a nice personality information on Metron. In S3, when the team attacked him for use of his chair to save Cyborg, he did not hold ill will cause, the did not mean disrespect nor harm and were adults working to save a child a very natural biological urge for those inferior to him. But, Lor-Zod literally thought he was above and better than Metron, thought he was an insect. THAT level of disrespect shall not go unpunished.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this scene funny. The very first time I saw it, I burst out in laughter as I watched it 4-5xs over. I don't know whether it was Lor-Zod allowing his hatred of Superboy to blind him to the obvious setup; or Metron being petty enough to orchestrate the events to get vengeance on him🤣🤣🤣. Seems to be behavior beneath that of a New God🤣🤣🤣.

Cyborg yes, but with Razor, Metron was just as surprised as the audience. Metron already thoroughly studied the Red Ring, but wanted to see how Rage affected its power before taking the Blue Ring for study. But even Metron was dumbfounded when Razor was able to wield both Red and Blue Lantern Rings simultaneously.

He wants to see their respective potential as wielders of such powers. For Metron, the smartest of all the New Gods, he's someone who is curious about studying and discovering new things. He's like Brainiac, but he won't go to extreme lengths unless he has no other choice to be left with. In Cyborg's case, he wants to know the full extent of what a combination between humans and mother/father boxes can do. He may never had thought about someone fusing with one of his inventions and thus he was interested. In Razor's case it's something entirely different and unique. Perhaps it's possible for Metron to be aware of the Rings of Emotions as well as the history behind each one of them. Given his own understanding towards the rings, he never would have expected two rings, especially those of opposite sides to come together. And since he's aware of the Rings, their abilities and history, he might possibly be aware of the Black and White Rings of Life and Death. Perhaps he wants to see whether the prophecy of the white one is true or not.

The Kryptonian's were defeated before they could become enough of a threat to change the course of history. The Legionnaires would remain until Lor Zod no longer presented a threat to the future, and he no longer held any advantages over them. Darksied blamed the outcome of Lor Zod's mission on his decision to divert the mission for personal pursuits, and would not have extended the same restraint afforded to his subordinates. And he made an enemy of Metron, who used Lor Zod's opportunistic nature to lure him into a trap.

Many wonder why Metron did not take revenge on Cyborg or Razor but he cannot take revenge on them because he understands that they acted as he would and it was not their intention to harm him. Lord Zod is a very different case, he humiliated and threatened Metron and it just couldn't stay that way.

I think it also takes into account: Both were expirements that he got something out of. Cyborg he got to see the effects of the father box on a human, and while prevented, got to retrieve the father box part as consolation. For Razer, he wanted to see the lantern powers in action and even got to see a dual ring weilder in action. What lor did was break into his vault and steal from him. That can't be abided. Though this did show me the new rule of this universe: Never Fuck With Metron.

Prior to this scene, I thought that Metron is simply someone who is too smart to hold a grudge. Lor-Zod got lucky way too many times and he had time travel. I'm glad that they killed him off instead of forcing a redemption arc for him.

@@benwasserman8223 Well considering both Young Justice and Gargoyles were created by Greg Weisman who got his start writing for DC's Captain Atom, stands to reason that both Xanatos and Luthor woudl be similar to each other. But yes, I do agree that Luthor is typically obsessed with getting revenge or at least oneupping Superman because deep down he's jealous that an alien is more celebrated and loved than him.

Now this is poetic/cruel irony. Killed by the same bomb that was used in attempt to kill Connor (Super Boy) and when he was sent back there, he got greedy and Merton made the Time Sphere ditch him. If anything, he truly deserves that.

It's such a shame that this version of Lor-Zod had ironically been killed by a combination of his own original plan to kill Superboy, his own personal hatred for Superboy, and Metron's need for revenge. It saddens me because in another life, Lor-Zod did become the adopted son of Superman. This Lor-Zod definitely did terrible things and was punished accordingly, but I don't know if he deserved the death that he got. Fortunately, none of the heroes killed him, it was just the machinations of a petty new god. Hopefully the present day Lor-Zod will have a chance at redemption that his future counterpart did not. Considering how determined Ursa is to get revenge and preserve Zod's legacy, it's still hard to see the fate of the present day Lor-Zod.

I’m pretty sure present day Lor-Zod will be the redemptive Zod. While he will be raised with hate, the writers don’t have the balls to kill the child. More than likely, Lor-Zod will be used to show we are not condemned to follow our ancestors fate. Also, I think general Zod might end on a redemptive note. He might be instrumental in the fight against Darkseid. I noticed this iteration of general Zod wasn’t deplorable. He genuinely cared for Superboy and his soldiers.

I would have liked to see Tomar-Re's son, Tomar-Tu, take him down next season. They hinted at a future fight when Lor-Zod went to the Oan prison. Man, now I just want a Green Lantern Corps spin-off show as good as Young Justice.

I love how much Stable Time Loop is at play here, the ashes on the wall were always there, but they were never Superboy, and were always Lor-Zod all along. That being said, it is interesting how some things WERE changed by this time event, such as the fact Zod's wife escaped and an Emerald Empress was made 1000 years sooner than she should have been.

EXPERIMENT NOTES: There is an old Earth saying, "hoist by one's own petard," to describe someone being done in by their own plans, taken from the act of a person's "petard," a primitive explosive, going off underneath their own feet and launching them into the air. It feels satisfyingly appropriate to let the test subject, who sought to conquer said planet, experience this for himself, and allow all his machinations to figuratively, and literally, blow up in his face. Subject terminated, experiment concluded. End result: Satisfaction.

I'm still puzzled as to how Rocket survived the collapse...Theories anyone??? Quite frankly, once the sphere was repaired Metron waited for the moment to get back at Zod. He either experimented with the sphere to see the events unfold and simply waited for the right moment. In that process of, "saving," Rocket, he was using her to get the sphere back to Zod and then BOOM.
