Old Kratos: Is confronting a past he is ashamed of. Knowing better, knowing what he knows now. Trying to free himself from his self pity and doubt. Confronts his fears in the form of his younger self. Young Kratos: Is still running from that shame and doesn't want to be reminded. Still trapped by self pity and doubt. Vanishes after Old Kratos let's go of it, signifying that he's not a monster anymore.
@SonicMaster5194 ай бұрын
Dude, I'm sick of these comments. Young Kratos isn't running from that shame. He accepted what happened and channeled his rage into defeating Ares, the one who made him kill his family. Even afterwards, he fought against Olympus, despite all odds, because it was being corrupt. Zeus was being a jerk and Kratos is not allowing that; he genuinely wants to better the world. He's not trapped by pity or doubt. He does not pity himself or doubt himself, despite what Valhalla might lead you to believe.

@SonicMaster519 He fought against Olympus because they were in his way on his war path to Zeus. He did not give a damn whether they were corrupt or not. If they were in his way, then he would forcefully remove them. Kratos' goal in the original trilogy was entirely self-fulfilling, not for the benefit of the world or anybody but himself. Every God he killed had catastrophic consequences for Greece and it's people. That's why he kills himself at the end of the 3rd game when his revenge path was over. That's why his self reflection works in these games. Whether or not he was justified, his actions caused pain and death for millions, and he did it all because he was selfish, and it didn't even bring back the only thing he actually wanted.
@Shiesty1154 ай бұрын
@@SonicMaster519 Just tell us you didn't actually play the games. His whole reason for his rage was because the gods refused to free him of the visions of him murdering his wife and daughter. Then it became about murdering Zeus and the rest of the gods stood in his way. That's it.
@SonicMaster5194 ай бұрын
@@TheSilentCheetah Not for anybody but himself? The dude noticed the entirety of Olympus was falling into shambles and Zeus betrayed the poor dude after everything. Of course he's going to start taking down all the gods. Maybe he didn't do it with other people in mind, but he certainly couldn't stand for the world falling apart when it affected him, too. He killed himself at the end of the third game because what is there? Nothing. Olympus has been destroyed and there is no home to go back to. Not only that, from the very start he was pretty intent on killing himself. The gods are gone, so what more is there? His actions caused pain and death, but calling him selfish is flatout stupid. Are we going to forget the little girl and that whole Pandora plotline? Or is that just nonexistent now?

IMO, I think if Young Kratos only said the “You need not remind me” line here, it would be perfect. It shows how Young Kratos was always a bit regretful of the actions he took, thereby helping improve the message of this scene that Old Kratos comes to realize (Kratos was always much more than just a vengeful killing machine), while also preserving the badassery and gravitas of having Carson’s Kratos actually speak.
@WaggerFiggot154 ай бұрын
"There were reasons for that " amplifys the "you were always more than what people saw " line . Many forgot that the OG story of kratos was a tragedy of a tortured soul . GoW 2018 didnt do nearly as much moral grandstanding condemning Kratos as ragnarok did , so it was nice to have that ( and emphasized more in this ) line as a reminder to the audience that many of these characters that constantly put kratos down have little to no idea the full extent of his experiences . It also shows that being regretful was irrelevant to him. He made decisions which he needed to make in situations to gain the desired outcome. Whether it was moral or not did not matter. I guarantee that if he were placed in the same exact situations again, he would make nearly the same exact choices as he did before and regretted. Except, of course killing innocent people with the only purpose being entertainment. But besides that everything will remain the same, which is something i think many people dont seem to think about. Its not about being redeemable or not, he simply acted upon what the situations called for at their times.

I think it's beautiful how Kratos comes to terms with himself. He's seen himself as nothing but a monster, even after all he's been through and everyone who reaffirms him. The only one left who needs to reaffirm him... is himself. He understands here the wrongs he's done will never go away. The loss. The guilt. The pain. It's never going to go away, not fully, but he chooses to grow beyond his suffering and accepts the "monster". And as a result, the monster goes away and the man, the god, remains. Not as a tool of pain, but as a person who decides who he wants to be and for that person to protect the world he has come to love. He is no one's slave, but serves the people as a peaceful man who has known violence intimately. This love, this empathy and this self worth is what I believe is the true measure of a man. To conquer your demons and accept yourself for not only who you are, but who you can be.

One of the things I’ve always loved about this speech is how we see glimmers of Young Kratos in it. Specifically around “in service.” It sounds almost like… Disgust? In the word? When two tidal waves of testosterone meet. It’s also great to hear the old music again.

I love this! Even though TC didn’t voice him, Kratos confronts his old self. When he says: “You are more than that.” He’s finally realizing for HIMSELF instead of anyone else telling him. A God of Hope indeed.

Both scenes work very well, The best part for me is when he says .. "and now I would like to sit here for a while"
