YOUNG SAILORS DIVE: The Great Barrier Reef - Fitzroy Reef - Episode 24

It just keeps getting better and better as we continue our first year sailing up the Queensland coast. Vibes are high since our time on Lady Musgrave island, but this week we explore Fitzroy Reef - around 70nm off Bundaberg. Squid, free diving lessons, garfish and the most vivacious reef we've seen yet! Take a little break from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the splendour of the Great Barrier Reef with us.

Try switching to the DJI Osmo 3. The GoPros really aren’t as tough or as reliable as they’re made out to be, and they’re obscenely expensive for what they are. I also use the cheap knock-offs for risky maneuvers or to mount to the spreaders and get “Slow TV” footage. Also, I appreciate the acknowledgement and respect for the indigenous people at the end. Wonderful.

Thanks for the suggestion, we purchased our GoPro second hand (like all of our purchases) but we will keep an eye out for the Osmo second hand. Would love to get one of their lapel microphones

Your mention of ‘equalising’ when free-diving is the first time that I have met this term. I have often wondered how people manage to hold their breath when free-diving. Could you please talk some more about this?

Another great episode and it looks like you are both having a great time out there! Who even has a protractor on board haha. If I can say one thing that’s kinda on the negative side. Any marine scientist or reef expert will agree that touching reefs, corals and creatures is can cause damage to or kill them and is not recommended.

Thanks Edmund! We have way too much stuff aboard, a protractor is just the beginning haha. Since this video we have definitely learnt how delicate this eco system is and how our presence there can impact it. We will be doing our best to not come into contact with it anymore, we have to do everything we can to preserve it. This season we saw so much dead coral (the shot of me with the antlers) and we want to do as much as we can to help preserve what remains of the living. Saldly I think the major affects of the reef need intervention and change from all levels which does not seem to be happening fast enough. Cheers mate, Josh

Hey mate, yeah we agree that a well balanced diet would offer you a broad range of minerals. Especially if they are grown in healthy soil. Although we were saying we need water with minerals in it for the purpose of putting it though our water ioniser :)
