I agree, but Shaq enjoyed himself a little. Did some movie work, some music, some business, but he never went crazy with the partying or any drugs. He showed up, did his job and it was always more than enough. I used to hate it that we didn't see his full potential, but now I don't blame him. He did what he set out to do and then some.

“Young Shaq”??? No, that’s PRIME Shaq. “Young” Shaq was Orlando Shaq. Prime Shaq was from his 1st year with the Lakers to about 2003. ‘96 to ‘03. That’s prime, untouchable Shaq. Peak Shaq is ‘98 to ‘01 Shaq.

If you take him from say ‘92 or ‘93 or so, Shaq would still smoke him with ease. It’s not even a contest. But regardless, no, he is not “still in his prime” at all by this point. He was a couple years past it.

Shaq was incredibly dominant prior to Kobe's arrival in Los Angeles. He already had a Finals appearance, top five MVP finishes and top five scoring title finishes with All-NBA appearances under his belt before Kobe started developing.
