I like this early LA, when they had Nick and Eddie Jones. They went hard. Also their bench was like a second set of starters. They almost lost Kobe and Shaq. I wonder what the franchise would've been like if they lost them both.

I agree, but Shaq enjoyed himself a little. Did some movie work, some music, some business, but he never went crazy with the partying or any drugs. He showed up, did his job and it was always more than enough. I used to hate it that we didn't see his full potential, but now I don't blame him. He did what he set out to do and then some.

Ngl I prefer shaq when he was slightly bigger than this. He was still athletic enough to dunk on ppls head but also had the power to knock 300lb dudes around like bowling pins lol

too ”DOMINANT”. Shaquille O'Neal is in his prime. And a young Kobe, a young Derek Fisher. Robert Orley as Rick Fox. I'm surprised that the 2000-2002”THREE-PEAT” members have already gathered since around this time. Once again, Jerry West's blueprint for the future, and his foresight, are fantastic.

“Young Shaq”??? No, that’s PRIME Shaq. “Young” Shaq was Orlando Shaq. Prime Shaq was from his 1st year with the Lakers to about 2003. ‘96 to ‘03. That’s prime, untouchable Shaq. Peak Shaq is ‘98 to ‘01 Shaq.

@@bts_officiallyNo, he was not “still in his prime”.. He was 32 by this point. He’s not at his peak anymore. But it doesn’t matter regardless. This Shaq would destroy him at any point in his career. If you take him from say ‘92 or ‘93 or so, Shaq would still smoke him with ease. It’s not even a contest. But regardless, no, he is not “still in his prime” at all by this point. He was a couple years past it.

Just remember the next time you Bronsexuals want to devalue Michael's legacy b/c the Jazz "were old, slow and white". Those old(as old as Jordan's Bulls) slow, white Jazz swept and gentlemen swept Shaq and 3 all stars and great role players b2b 97 and 98. As well as gentleman sweeping Duncan and Robinson in 98 and taking out Hakeem/Barkley/Drexler in 6 in 97. Put some respect on Jordan's Finals competition. Those Jazz were 1 game 7 loss to Seattle from facing the Bulls 3 years in a row. Shows how good Seattle was in 96 too. I could go on about Portland and Phoenix too if you want.

Shaq was incredibly dominant prior to Kobe's arrival in Los Angeles. He already had a Finals appearance, top five MVP finishes and top five scoring title finishes with All-NBA appearances under his belt before Kobe started developing.

Don't do that. Kobe is the better player and has a better career, but don't disrespect Shaq. As the previous commentor mentioned, Shaq was an already established star in the game he just needed the guidance of Phil Jackson and contributions and clutch gene of Kobe to win.
