I think I kind of saw this coming, it seems like an expected progression to the mainstream from Bones. But tbh, Its gonna take a while to grow on me I think. As I got into you guys during Mirrors. Loved AOKAD and Bones, I think this new more 'repetitive' chord approach to song writing leaves it a bit stale/bland. I liked 'I want out though'... I feel this one falls short/ disappointed on first listen. But it will probably grow on me. Might work better live, so I'll reserve judgement until I've heard the whole album and see it live but I can tell you now really do miss the more guitar riffs/ drums style...so I hope there is a few on the album :'(
@ScoreForKnorr10 жыл бұрын
Although Bones was the first Young Guns song I ever heard, I like the sounds of both the Bones and All Our Kings Are Dead albums as well as the Mirrors EP (or at least what I've heard on KZbin). According to the YG Wikipedia page, it looks like YG signed with Virgin/EMI for this latest album. After hearing I Want Out (which was alright but not even close to being my favorite YG song) and now Speaking In Tongues, it's clear that the band is wanting to become even more mainstream with their sound. I Want Out was borderline for me but Speaking in Tongues sounds way too poppy compared to the rest of the songs from years past. I hope there are some heavier tracks on the new album to help offset this one.

it's different but it's still really good, looking forward to the album
@CalebMichaelsonVEVO10 жыл бұрын
I really like the direction the band is headed. Regardless of the style, it seems YG is dropping some of the super loud and "dense" production in favour of more subtlety. I see how people would see that as "going poppy", but even then, what's wrong with pop music?
@mrnatnat12310 жыл бұрын
Anyone else getting pissed off with these people in the comments section saying "Oh eww this sounds generic", "why is this rock band becoming a pop band", "this band are losing their way", "Why are they trying to become popular". No, how about you shut the fuck up, and let a band do what they want and stop complaining all the time, yeah, it may sound a little pop like, but why does that matter? This still sounds amazing, just because they upload a song with a genre *YOU* don't like, doesn't mean the band are losing their way, Get a fucking grip.
@92dunbar10 жыл бұрын
Getting angry at people for having an opinion, so now who needs to get a fucking grip. The reason why so people are frustrated is probably because they loved there sound from the first album. This is completely different and rather generic from their old stuff. Opinion is opinion mate but getting angry at people for expressing there opinion when many people agree think the same is rather daft.
@mrnatnat12310 жыл бұрын
92dunbar Well, if they loved the sound from the first album, go and listen to the first album if you find this sort of music too generic and completely different. And i think you will find the vast majority of people like this song and dont start complaining just beacuse its different to what they produced in the first album. Just let a band produce what they want, how they want. Simple.
@Hardiment12310 жыл бұрын
Nathen Kiruba One of the things that really set them off was their use of drop B tuning and heavy guitar riffs, that made them stand out. This is more run of the mill indie pop stuff, I enjoy it and I liked I Want Out, so will listen to the album but you cannot blame people for questioning what happened. It's no different to Fall Out Boy or All Time Low.
@Emm_R_Guitar10 жыл бұрын
There's a difference between pop rock and bland/predictable. Genre aside This isn't young guns best. I like pop/rock, but something has gotta keep you guessing or bouncing or relating or something for it to be good. Emulating a sound does not automatically make you popular. I understand what they are trying to do/ mature/ appeal to a wider audience, because that generally is a reflection on the memorability of the song. But I agree with Hardiment123, for me the thing that made the difference was The lower voice, riffs and mixture of heavy and light. I have Mirrors AOKAD, Bones...I can hear the progression genre wise. But they could have pulled this off a hell of a lot more interestingly... As this one meanders along a bit, like its missing something. Its not bad or anything. But expecting a band to pull out 3 epic albums in a row allowing for an experimentation each time, is pushing it a bit. But thats just after 1 listen. I may grown to like it at lot more.

Just a reminder to everyone freaking out that Gus said this is the radio edit, and that the album version will be different. And even if you're complaining how pop this sounds, let's face it- this is better than a lot of what you hear on the radio.
@PrestigeSniper10 жыл бұрын
To everyone complaining about the more "pop" sound Young Guns have gone with in their latest releases, I get it but you really should consider this: it's only normal for a band to experiment in attempts to gain new audiences. I have no problem with this song, and while I wish it did have the harder rock vibe to it, I understand what they're trying to do. Songs like this will attract the ears of almost all listeners, and while it is more generic, it's very catchy and radio friendly which is great because they'll get more exposure. I don't know about the rest of you, but as a fan I want these guys to get as big as possible, and songs like this will do just that. I can't speak about other songs on the upcoming album, but I do know they have a song titled Rising Up that is incredible and really sounds like their older stuff and they played it live and I couldn't be more excited. Like I said I see how people can be disappointed but this is just a taste of what's to come so don't let this one song form a negative mindset of the album :)
@austinmack771310 жыл бұрын
I love how people think that the lead radio single will be the demise of an album. The lead single is supposed to be crafted to what they value as a band while simultaneously making something for the most people to like. I didn't really like the single "Bones" when it came out, but the rest of the album was great. Can't wait to here more!

What you're saying here is not really helping the band. Saying a band is changing style and personality to attract a bigger crowd A.K.A selling out is the surest way of making them lose all credibility. They are cool guys and though it will be cool for them to get as big as possible, this is not the way to go. Look at the exemple of 30 STM and what they've become. I talked to them only a couple of times but I doubt losing their core fan base is what they want

Honestly, there is not one band that doesn't evolve over time. Moreover, I don't agree, I still hear the same YG than before. Even if they're trying new stuff (which is good because always hearing the same stuff would be boring, don't you think?) They still have their identity, unique sound & amazing lyrics. As long as these remain, they're going to be great. So please, listen to the album in its entirety before judging it.

Speaking in tongues may be a bit more pop rock production wise but the lyrics clearly have a much deeper meaning than your average pop song. I personally prefer bands to progress and challenge themselves with each record they put out. And while I love both of their previous records it would be really boring if they repeated these records on the new album. So keep up the good work guys!

For all those folks who say young guns has lost it: 1. Wait for the album. Listen to it, from start to finish. 2. Listen to the other albums. 3. Realize that it is a change, and maybe we should wait for the next album. Young Guns never had two similar albums. I like this one. Don't mean they will stick to this trend in their next disc. 4. I feel like this song could have been better with a different producer. There's too much going on, especially in the top end. It's still good but it feels like there's no depth or space to hold onto in the sound for it to grab my attention. Maybe it's my speakers but I tried a few different sets and on them all it sounds like the low end is lacking. The song itself is good but it just doesn't jump out at me or drag me in the way I wish it did, which sucks because pretty much the whole Bones album did that for me. Still, I'm really excited to be hearing new music from Young Guns! Thanks guys!

Kinda sad how they used to get like 1 - 4 million views on their videos. Used to be such a huge fan of their music on 'All Our Kings Are Dead'. I even bought the CD. I guess people, like I have, moved on from the songs that are around 4 years old.
@linkittosophie10 жыл бұрын
I hate how everyone is complaining about "Young Guns changing". Bands need to evolve. They can't just play the same songs they did 5 years ago. Yes, All Our Kings Are Dead is a great album - but wouldn't it get boring if they stuck to that style forever? It's essentially the same as Muse - bands grow up. Matt Bellamy (Muse) wouldn't be writing the same songs he did when he was 20, considering that he is now in his 30s. Bands need to evolve to keep them interesting essentially - bands in their 20s and 30s can't go around singing angst-y teen songs, now, can they? If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Simple as that.
@ChernovFan10010 жыл бұрын
AC/DC have been making the same sounding music since the 1970s and they're still one of the biggest bands to ever exist. So yeah, bands can have the same formula for a very long time and be successful. It's a better idea than trying to change your sound and ending up failing horribly.
@92dunbar10 жыл бұрын
They've only had 2 albums, most bands explore new sounds when their further on in their careers. I think the change from their original sound of AOKAD to this is quite quick especially when many people started to listen to them when they were more of a rock band. Why couldn't they try to improve their old sound, not that it's the same but to improve and perfect it, they have the talent. Fair enough for them for changing and going in a different direction musically. They will gain many new fans but probably lose quite a few who first starting listening to them and saw them live. Can't imagine where they might go with their next album if this new one is similar to the first two tracks they have released.
@CaptainChocolatePig9 жыл бұрын
And tbh, Muse's the 2nd Law didn't really explore that much electronics- only on Madness, Follow Me and the two 2nd Law Tracks. While some of the other tracks were boring, they weren't that electronic. And I personally don't care if a band changes style- if I like it I like it, if not then no. And come on people, this is NOT pop! A pop artist would NEVER make music like this!

I can only hear one synth on this song... But I still like them, even though this is different from bones. But I still expect them to have a couple of song that are a bit heavier than this on the new record. After all they're still a rock band, we wouldn't want them to go totally pop like nickelbacks new album. As long as they compose the music for what they think sounds good, and not for what their record label think will sell, it's all good.
