That's ignorance and hypocrisy trying to win over wisdom and sincerity. The make up is the disguise of ourselves we do in front of people. Our "social self". We never show up who we really are. Scrabbling to maintain his existence before he’s left behind. He’s a self-aware facade facing his own mortality and doing everything in his dwindled power to hold on. To those interested in the Tarot Cards, they're specifically the French version called tarot de Marseille. The first card is The Fool(ou le Mat), second is Death, third is The Magician(ou le Bateleur). Interestingly, The Fool is typically card 0, but in TDM has no number and Death, card 13, is also known as "Arcane sans nom" (arcana with no name). The Fool can mean the start of a new adventure, while Death can mean the end of something or rest/taking a break. The Magician means power, skillfulness, potential(meeting it?). Perhaps a reference to the fact that Clearview, Ultraviolet and Ghostlight are supposed to be a trilogy?
@QUEENOBSCURE2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saying the Death card isn’t what people think it is. The Media always portrays it wrongly in works fiction.

EDIT: I AM A NOVICE AND THE REST OF THIS COMMENT IS MISGUIDED. I left it here for context. The Magician represents earning power and meeting potential. The _Inverted_ Magician represents unearned power and squandered potential. On that note, never trust a Tarot reader that doesn't shuffle the deck in a way that allows the cards to be inverted.

There are plenty of online radio stations that play music by Poets Of The Fall. In fact, a bunch of pop music fans (as opposed to fans of rock) have discovered the music of Poets Of The Fall on our online radio broadcast and have fallen in love with these guys. The three tarots at 3:49 follow the meaning of the song. If my tarot-reading knowledge is worth any salt, the three represent the past, the present and the future. The Fool represents innocence, new beginnings, hope and the such. It also means inexperience and naivety. Being green, with all the consequences that it entails. Death is not necessarily death as we know it: it can mean illness, separation, but also change. Like, radical change. Crisis, an end, failure also falls into the spectrum of meanings. The Magician stands to depict how one can be free to choose every direction, or needs to, even. The magician arcana is about talent, resources, being determined and the such. Many others can understand the lyrics' deeper meaning better than I do, and already explained so. They pertain to the struggle of letting go of something, or someone, that simply cannot fit in your life and go towards a new beginning. I did not happen to see any comments regarding the tarots, so I just thought about adding this to the pile. Great song, of course. The video, the acting, they are all icing on the cake. I myself am currently struggling with life choices and the dread of going nowhere, so this strikes a chord with me. I'm still the harlequin behind the mirror, trying to re-apply make-up that part of me wants to get rid of. Hope y'all fare better.

@vuthara87252 жыл бұрын
@@chiffmonkey While I'm not a reader myself, I do know the interpretations of the cards he was given: The Fool (Either unnumbered or zero) represents a new beginning, often a leap of faith; The Fool travels to a new land, bringing with him only the clothes on his back. When reversed, it indicates it is something one should be hesitant about jumping into, as recklessness on this journey may end it early, it may also represent a lack of the faith needed to be successful in this new endeavor. Either way, the beginning of something is inevitable. Death (thirteen) Is the card that is often feared out of superstition (explaining his reaction), however, a reader will/should never try and predict deaths. Often this card refers to death in the sense of transformation; death of an old idea gives life to a new one, it can be difficult, unexpected, terrific or terrible. The main takeaway is that to attempt to avoid this change will only make the current issues at hand worse, which is what it's reversed form represents. It can mean that one is having trouble letting go of the past, death can haunt us all, but holding on to grief only prolongs the pain. The Magician (one) represents willpower, representing someone who has gained the skills and abilities needed to be successful in their endeavors. Often this means that one must use their will, focus, and intellect to achieve your goals as they present themselves. When reversed, it means a lack of that clarity, that someone can use your skill and ability for their own selfish desires, it is a caution to tread lightly around those who are cunning and deceiving, perhaps even that cunning person you need to watch out for is yourself. Do take that all with a grain of salt, as it is only my basic understanding of the cards, but I hope it's accurate enough to explain how the symbology of their music lines up with these three particular cards. I know I found it fascinating.

I do not know why in the dead of night, scrolling down the comment section and finding a familiarity, gave me so much unexpected warmth. I thank you and Poets of the Fall for this unique experience. I love the theme of duality in this song. It's almost like they are going for symbolism related to how the band has evolved and changed over the years. Regardless of the inherent meaning, this is another absolute banger of a song and I adore it!

So, in full anticipation of this upcoming song/video release, I decided to have a look back at some of their previous videos. I know it's been talked about all over those video comments, but it's interesting to think what sort of easter eggs/connections we'll see in this and future videos. Following them since Alan Wake after hearing 'War', I recently realized Marko's mask in 'Daze' looks similar - especially the left eye star - to the TT mask on the album cover. And the ticket represents the release date? Cool. And then there's 'False Kings' and 'My Dark Disquiet' - is he portraying the same person in both videos? He looks more...'disheveled' in MDD and at 2:54 of that song, he says 'we're false kings and bastards'. I know to some/most of you, these are old headlines, but just hoping I'd stir up some conversation around the thought that goes not only into their lyrics, but their videos as well. Last one - it's stated the 'Carnival of Rust' video makes reference to each track in the CoR album. I still can't find them all. Who here has?
@anitaninkovic51942 жыл бұрын
I don't think I can add any reference to your list, but I'm sure we'll have fun decoding the new video on Friday. One still frame has been presented hours ago, but the director made sure it doesn't reveal much - a fine art of teasing. I'm not sure if that makes me hyped or frustrated :D. We'll know more on Friday. And this overarching of symbols and motives is precisely what kept me glued to Poets, wanting to know more. There was one fan commenting these easter eggs/connections, and I loved reading his comments. I hope he's lurking in shadows right now. As wild as his theories seemed to be, a good deal of them actually made sense and he pointed me into some intesting directions.
@kjstew212 жыл бұрын
@@anitaninkovic5194 Agreed. And that one still...I'm with you on the hype train. Black/white, shadow of a Queen, reminds me of the Knight on the Clearview cover and of course, them playing chess in 'False Kings'. they sure do know how to keep us guessing.

I remember being a casual fan about ten years ago, but with each song my admiration of them continues to grow. Aside from the great music, it's got to be said that not many bands can take a great song and somehow make it better after the listener becomes a viewer. In other words, when I listen to Poets of the Fall, the masterpieces that are their music videos play in my mind which makes the listening experience even more intriguing. Then of course, there's the fact that these videos and characters are linked which becomes an even more intriguing and inspiring experience.

The Fool's a recurring character, but here are we seeing his final chapter, with Marko turning away from him? There's connections to Daze and Carnival of Rust, Clearview represented by the chessboard... the two men in the dark glasses, weren't they in Moonlight Kissed? And the tarot cards, as well as the meaning the cards themselves portray, perhaps a link to Temple of Thought? Much to think about 🤔

Very cool song and video. I am encouraged that it sounds like the guitars may play a bigger role on this album than the previous two. I also felt like on the last album in particular, there were a few songs that didn’t sound “complete” (they improved them immensely in live performances and single releases). But at least with this song, I feel like they took their time and made it be the best that it could be. I eagerly await hearing what else the new CD will hold!
