“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

This is my THIRD career. I'm 42 years old. I'll be finished with school in December. I lost my job due to the company resizing and i decided that I'm going for it!! I practice in the mean time giving out real cheap sets until i graduate. I'm scared but I'm too old to live with regrets. God got me.

It's the best thing I ever did! I took the plunge to go full time (and found out the company I was working for closed shortly after I left). I'm 42 this year as well. Its scary but you've got this! I wish you EVERY success! 💜

@@Smashthesecondhalf this is seven months too late, but my house is PAID for. So is my car. I lived off my severence, I also got my income tax and used it to pay bills. I also got unemployment during that time and my state gave away a check for about $100 a month for students enrolled in a community college program. That's also how I paid for school

I'm saving up for nail school. It will take about a year so while saving I'm practicing nails, building the businesses back end, stockpiling content and learning to edit, market and of course binge YN content. ❤

Love you guys! These are the topics nail school should cover. I’m still trying to figure out how to transition to nails as full time. It’s so scary and frustrating

Having a plan as to what addition services you will have is important! Like soak offs. If you dont include it, you may drive clients away as well.

My business just turned 1 🎉 I’m the unicorn that started In a suite. I would have done booth rent but felt discriminated against when making inquiries so I had to make it work! I purchased all the basics when I was in school basically buying $50 every paycheck. The young nails kits are awesome to start with for acrylic and gel!!! By the time I graduated I had everything I needed. The largest expenses were furniture! It was almost $1000 for ikea stuff …. I just started seeing money in my business account to pay for booth rent, supplies, snacks for clients ect. I just paid myself for the first time this month so it is definitely HARD! I’ve had to do Uber ,DoorDash, veho , put my car on turo and several other gig jobs I’ve tried over the year. I promote promote promote my business! Social media is your best friend and you WILL need to post everyday (or near that). Since I have been doing that I’ve seen the most growth 🫶🏾 good luck to all of you on your journey and thanks tracy & habib ❤

I'm turning 47 in a few weeks and became an instant caregiver to my dad 2 years ago. I left corporate america and have no interest in going back into my former career. I love the nail industry and creativity it offers and have thought about going to school. I have an unfurnished apartment attached to my house and my stylist quit doing nails...she told me she would send all of her clients to me if I get licensed and decide to convert the space attached to my home into a suite which has a parking area as well. In my situation would you recommend I go commission for a while to gain experience? Also, do salons hire techs with no experience?

It really depends on what you have the time and ability to do. Definitely start by going to school and getting your license. In school, you will learn the basics, but it may be beneficial to work at a commission salon to build your clientele and gain more experience. However, if your life as a caregiver does not allow you to be away from your dad for longer periods of time, you may need to build your business at your home salon. There are salons that hire new techs, you may need to check out several to see what would be best for you, your schedule and lifestyle.

I was wondering what I would need to decide when. Thatnks for the game plan advice! Sounds like I'll be starting out in a commission setting at first and see where that takes me.

Having one of those days where I wana throw in the towel, only 2 clients this week, lucky to get one a day on a good week. Gets so hard to keep persevering when you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I gave up my job and now the financial situation is making me wana give up 😢

It’s hard being self employed but don’t give up and hold on! I suggest you to use the time you don’t have clients to implement your portfolio on nail tips/training hand and doing more socials contents, give your business cards to everybody such as supermarket cashier for example or to the people you meet when you take public transports. I’m stuck in a bad situation because of family issues and I’m struggling a lot too but being self employed and be the owner of your time is so precious that it worth every struggle in the path you’re going through. Believe in yourself and go ahead.

I've been through this and still building my clientele, but I've taken Tracey and Habib's advice and offered 3 free sets to people who work with a lot of people in exchange for them giving interested clients my cards and advertising on my behalf. It has worked really well.

Hello Young Nails! Could you guys please discuss about rebranding or starting over. I’m in that category. I’ve been a licensed nail tech since 2013 I’ve moved around a lot and now I am finally able to settle down again and rebuild my business. I’m 32 years old, not the young 21 year old I was when I first started out 🤦🏽‍♀️ I am currently working at a nail salon inside the shopping mall in a college town.

5:52 So quick question! Does commission based salons have to pay you hourly when you don’t have a client?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc Жыл бұрын
It can depend on how the salon is paying you and if you are considered an independent contractor or an employee. You would need to clarify this with the employer.

Always save some of what you earn for your future! Having a way to pay for quality healthcare if you don’t already have it, for one, can’t be overstated. Also, don’t be wrapped up in trying to have all the extras, or a super extensive collection, from the start.
