Holy shit, my tensioner arm snapped too, almost in the same spot, scared the shit out of me and was relieved when I saw it was just the tensioner. I wasn’t even doing a pull, just normally driving through my neighborhood on my way to work when all of a sudden “BANG”. Since I wasn’t doing a pull and not at high rpms at all, I didn’t get the ping Pong effect you did, but sure enough on the side of the road, there was tensioner arm snapped in half. 90 dollars and a bit of elbow grease later to get the belt back on and the car was back on the road. I have a feeling this will start happening to a lot of cobra owners because mine happened at about the same age yours did.

I heard the thumper tensioners could snap the crank snout off because they have no flex, so no belt slip but your risking destroying your entire engine.

Dang, I just seen this video. I'm running the Eaton and still have the factory idlers. I should replace those and I'll do the tensioner also after seeing this. When your car breaks, it makes my car not break. Thanks for saving me money :)

That's insane how it snapped like that. Bad luck fr. I've seen 200K+ mile Cobras that don't have that happen. Never seen that before.

I upgraded to Metco double bearings and a Roush tensioner (much beefier than stock but less expensive than the big boys) last year. Hopefully they hold up for a while.

@@Jordancraigmiller look it up. It’s fits the cobra and is a lot thicker . Just look it up. It’s a well known upgrade over the stock one and not 400 bucks like the thumper tensioner.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I replaced mine with a Roush over the summer. Not because I was having problems with the stock pulley. But I upgraded to Metco double bearings and wanted to upgrade the tensioner as well. Note though that these are made for the 3V 4.6 Mustangs. You so have to shim these on our cars with a few washers. But works great.

You should be ok with a new stock tensioner. Unfortunately, a result of adding horsepower is that shit breaks. That being said, I have never seen a pulley mount break like yours...just bad luck bro.
