Rewatch that Maddie scene and two things stand out immediately. 1) Caitlyn rejects all intimacy from Maddie, including avoiding the kiss 2) That is not Caitlyns bedroom. Also, the memorial scene with Caitlyn is super important, and easily missed.

@MeeshDeeReacts If you go back and watch it again, note that when Maddie tries to kiss her cheek, for example, Caitlyn jerks her head away - approx 4:13 timestamp on the show. Another us around 3:54 where Maddie tries to kiss her neck and caitlyn pulls away again. That scene is full of very subtle movements like that which are easy to miss, as we are all ourtaged on first viewing! In fact for all of Caitlyn in Act 2, you have to watch her eyes- they are so expressive and say a lot about how she is feeling, even if she doesn't say it.

The timeskip is confirmed by writer Amanda Overton to be somewhere between 3 and 6 months. They didn't want to pin it down more than that, except that it is "longer than anyone wanted or expected," including Caitlyn obviously but also Ambessa, who expected to have already gotten what she needed from Piltover and be back in Noxus already by now Amanda said that she really loved writing Ambessa in episode 3 getting everything she's been scheming and manipulating for since season 1, only to reveal this episode that getting it has actually made her life worse in just about every way lol. Perhaps a lesson Caitlyn could stand to learn???

there’s a lot of symbolism in the scene with ambessa and cait. ambessa begins to stoke the fire, but the embers are almost burnt out, so it really does nothing to get it going again. this represent’s cait’s anger. she is tired, she does not want to hate anymore, but the love she has for her mother that has driven her on this revenge path won’t let her give up quite yet. (slight spoilers for the next two eps below, i know meesh and dee have seen them, but in case anyone else reading hasn’t) this also leads into what singed says about love in episode 5, as well as viktor’s speech at the end of 6. i really enjoyed the writing this season, i just wish they were given the time they asked for to tell their stories and flesh out all the arcs.

Maddie is not a homewrecker… she a physical-only rebound. It’s been months since Cait and Vi broke up, and Cait is/was (I believe she ended things after the conversation with Ambessa and before going to her mom’s memorial… hence the weighted gazes) attempting to fill a void. But if you notice, Cait decidedly isn’t as into Maddie as it seems Maddie is into her. She is solely a physical distraction, a rebound.

Also, one of the show runners suggested that Cait is trying to be the daughter she believes her mother would have approved of and that her rebound was with someone her mother would have approved of (and Vi being from Zaun would have been something she wouldn’t have liked)… but as you can see, she’s not as able to enjoy it as she might have hoped.

What I love about the release of the prisoners is, up until this point, every time she does something, she jinxes it. People hurt, people die, and she loses those she loves. This is probably the first time she’s done something and been thanked for it, and you can see the confusion on her face; she’s not used to this, she doesn’t know how to react. Just lovely writing.

There is so much more to the Cait/Maddie scene....which STILL makes me nauseous to watch... • The very first time Maddie speaks…”Up again?”, Cait seems to have a look on her face like, “Ugh.,..you’re still here???” • After that, Maddie tried to hold Cait…and Cait pulls away. • Then Maddie tries kissing her with what I am sure is genuine affection for Cait…and as soon as she gets to her neck, Cait’s expression is just “Nope! Not going there!” and pulls away AGAIN! • And THEN…Maddie tries to get Cait to see herself as Maddie does….and Cait just gets up and walks away! Then…we have what Cait says. “I never expected this to go on so long. I don’t…I don’t know what I though. Just…it wasn’t this.” Maddie thinks Cait is talking about the Zaun situation and everything, but Cait was clearly ALSO referencing what was going on between them. Cait is NOT invested in things as Maddie is. Maddie is ABSOLUTELY head over heels for Cait…just as Vi is. Cait is CLEARLY still thinking of Vi, especially when you see her reaction when Maddie starts kissing the back of her neck. Per the head writer, it was a mutual attraction, though Caitlyn was mostly approaching it from the angle of "what if I dated someone my mom would approve of?". Which is a whole other bag of complications (and nausea).
