Hope Murtaugh has faced a cancer diagnosis twice in her life, and done so with faith, good humor and the support of her loved ones, including her husband, sons and now grandchildren. She has undergone surgical cancer treatments, chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. Through it all, her #PrismaHealth cancer treatment team stood by her side.
Murtaugh has continued to receive support through the Lifetime Clinic and the Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship, or CIOS. Medical providers with CIOS offer help not only with the immediate concerns after cancer treatment, but also with delayed effects like lymphedema, bone issues, sexual health concerns and more. The focus of CIOS is on building up and supporting cancer survivors as they move forward into their future.
After having faced cancer twice and with the support given by her family, faith and CIOS and the lifetime clinics, Murtaugh has found herself choosing to look ahead with optimism and joy.
"One of things I would say to someone newly diagnosed with cancer is that you are bigger than your cancer," said Murtaugh. "It's not going to define you."
