I had a hysterectomy 17 years ago. My doctor put me on HT for a little post surgery but shortly was told i could stop HT because I was 21 at the time. Now 17 years later, I was literally just informed its super important that I am on HT now. I am very scared of the negative effects of lack of proper hormones all these years.

I had a full hysterectomy, including ovaries removed at age 47. Now, at age 60, my general practitioner doctor says she wants me to go off of estradiol. For the past six months I have been weaning myself off. Meanwhile, my skin is drying out, my nails won’t grow past the tip of my finger before they break, and I have dry scalp. I also feel a nervousness all day every day. I thought everything was from a stressful life. I also had to go on high blood pressure medic because my blood pressure is high whenever I am stressed. Now I find this, and I am so happy because I am convinced that not having the full dose of estrogen is causing me to have all these symptoms. Not only that, and more importantly, is that my doctor actually told me, because she believes, that my risk of breast cancer and heart attack would be higher if I stayed on estradiol! Turns out it’s the exact opposite! I just put in for a refill of estradiol. When I see my doctor next month and I will be showing her this plus the article from Yale. If she refuses to keep me on estradiol, I will find a Doctor Who will. I am extremely angry that doctors and women are not up-to-date on this information!

I am with you--so furious at the terrible research and treatment of menopausal or surgically induced menopause. I had a full emergency hysterectomy in 1986, when I was 30, and had given birth 7 weeks before. I have used every form of estrogen available--from premarin to implants to patches to the best of all Evamist (you could pump a spray on your arm, changing the dose as you needed; it was so wonderful that of course, they have slowed down production). I didn't have a uterus but they gave me progesterone which was four days of hell. As soon as my estrogen dipped, I became symptomatic: hot flashes which would be like sitting in a stew all day, insomnia, with sleep deprivation that was dangerously close to dementia; vaginal dryness leading to atrophy. So I knew that I required this lifesaver. When I was suddenly told at age 66 that I can't use estrogen, my life fell apart. I came to learn that lack of estrogen can trigger bipolar (and doctors often have been giving psycho meds when the estrogen would take care of the depression.) I believe that women have been dying rather than going on in this hell. And frankly, I'll take breast cancer sny day before living as I have been doing before an article in the NYTimes validated my experience. I cried through the article, thinking of how I'd been believing I had early onset dementia, my cognitive process had gotten that bad. If I were working a full-time job, i would have had to quit. So thank goodness the tide is slowly turning. However, I had to go to four doctors to argue my case, bringing in studies and everything. I finally got put on the lowest patch possible and I'm not 100% yet, but I will not stop trying to get well again.

@@lesleylogan I’m so happy that things are turning around for you! Those of us experiencing this need to speak up more, because women need to know they don’t have to live like that. Last week I was finally able to see my new doctor. He didn’t know much about the updated info on this subject, but he agreed that lack of the estrogen was causing “a lower quality of life”, and we will talk about it again 5 years from now, and will keep prescribing until then. Hopefully more information will be spread by then. Meanwhile he wants me to see a gynecologist, probably because he doesn’t know much about this. I’m reluctant to do that, considering I may have to convince yet another doctor to prescribe hrt.

@@ThatRosyLifeSo many women are now taking HRT I don’t think we will let them take it away! If they do there will be a massive protest and I’ll be at the front of the line because I am never coming off of mine. I couldn’t even string two sentences together prior to my HRT, I thought it was the end for me and although I still have a few issues to sort I’m so much better after treatment.

I have 40may functional overion cyst now remove it but it can occure post manopose it may be occure cancer???

What about estrogen after TAH for cancer in situ???? Been afraid because of that.

I use Depo Estradiol once monthly . The oral meds weren’t absorbing as well. Is this sufficient?

If you don't have your uterus anymore you only need estrogen. I have had everything takenk out ( uterus, cervix, falopian tubes and ovaries) due to cervical cancer and my oncologist told me i only need to take estrogen. But please do not take advice over the internet, go to your obgyn for advice. Feel good🥰

Great info, I had hysterectomy a year ago but I do have my ovaries, my body haven’t been the same since, if I start estrogen therapy due to the fact that I do have my ovaries do I need to take Progesterone as well?

I need help ladies, I had a partial hysterectomy 4 years ago, Removing my uterus I do have my ovaries, I’m having the same cramps , headache and nausea ... is it possible that the endometriosis has grow back , I don’t know what to do I just feel horrible, and that I was done with this pain , when I had my surgery

@@Zisjejk I had another excision surgery to remove endometriosis that had grown back 3 years after my hysterectomy/endo removal. So do not hesitate to discuss this with your doctor. I would like to add that it did not show up on either ultrasounds and my blood work was always normal. During my second surgery, my appendix was removed because it was severely scarred and causing me intense pain during what would be my monthly period. I still have my ovaries and still get monthly pelvic pains, though it is far more manageable.
