When you vent to atmosphere rather than to intake vacuum, you lose that vacuum. You need to make up that difference by increasing passive flow capability, i.e. increasing the ID of your tubing/breather circuit. You might actually be increasing crank case pressure if losing the vacuum is not addressed.

I recently bought a 2007 Mercedes SLK 280. The intake manifold has three dash pots that control flaps/secondaries inside it with lots of armature and linkage made of cheap plastic. When the intake gets coked up with oil from the PCV the gum and carbon builds up causing resistance and those cheap plastic parts to break. If that happens the intake manifold has to come out and potentially be replaced (expensive). I put in this oil catch can hoping to avoid this scenario. Thanks for the video.

Should you not mount the filter on the outlet? That way the oil-mist needs to first go through the steel wool and then out, now the mist will just go from the inlet and just escape through the filter. That's how i mounted mine atleast :p
@cerevo5 жыл бұрын
I think also the in and out are backwards. I would think you'd want the oily air to come in and go down to the steel wool, then you have a baffle helping catch any left over oil in the air going out, before it goes into the engine. I wouldn't expect any different from the cheap stuff though.

I put one in my 2002 Echo with 308k miles. After 600 miles, it collected 3 oz of oil, water, and gas. Today I put in a stainless steel scrubby pad today to see if the yield increases.

Hey adel, great video again like always. I ran my oil catch can setup the same way until I learned that we need to have vacuum to help pull the blow by or else we can blow out our front main seal. Basically just like the oe pcv setup is pulling vacuum from the soft intake tube. You might want to look into that. Anyways keep up the great content! 🤙🏼

@desmondwai28222 жыл бұрын
should i install it between the line from PCV to crankcase? or PCV to air intake manifold
@mattk94385 жыл бұрын
Some engines, like the rbs... could do with the vacuum... because they're rbs. (Don't question it) A good catch can modification is to add a tube with holes along it to the inlet that extends to the bottom of the jar. Right now... it's probably going to eventually leak vapour out without catching much. And if I know rbs... I've come across more rb25's that have head draining issues, that benefit even more by adding baffling to the valve covers, as well as performing oil galley mods But you chose the rb life... just send it. It's either going to pour out oil, or not.

@finngurgens32645 жыл бұрын
If you vented to air without a filter, dirt would find its way into the engine. Also, it would spew oil mist all over the place, making a mess of your engine bay. A good baffled oil catch can solves both these problems.
