No, YOU'RE doing it wrong!!! Optix temporal denoise since Blender 3.1 is amazing for animations, more people should be talking about it! No one seems to have tested it because there is no documentation. I got this far: Set render output to EXR_Multilayer; turn on vector and denoise_data layers and render an animation. Then open up python console and enter: bpy.ops.cycles.denoise_animation() It goes through each saved image file for each frame (so its best to test with just a few frames), and overwrites the layer "View Layer.Combined.RGB" with a denoised version. (I think you have to have an RTX card, Optix as the Cycles Renderer in System settings, and turn denoise on in render tab, select Optix, then turn off again - I don't know if all this is necessary, but when I initially tried with Cuda selected in system settings, and OpenImageDenoise in render tab, bpy.ops.cycles.denoise_animation() worked, but the results were poor. So I did everything I could to ensure Optix was being used, not any other denoiser, and got much better results. Open the EXR image sequence in Davinci Resolve, go to Fusion page, and on the MediaIn node, choose the layer RenderLayer.Combined.

actually this is also wrong since superimagedenoise exists which basically denoises each layer on its own and combines them back. Way better than the actual denoise node and preserves tons of texture details

Hi, I hope you read comments, I have a quick question. In the compositor, you connect the Render Result "Image" dot to the Denoiser "Image" dot. Shouldn't you be connecting from the "Noisy Image" dot instead?
@LiminalLo-fi11 ай бұрын
If you are doing animation this method probably will not work for you and leave you crying after months of trying to figure out why you cant get stable light, shadows, and textures from this basic method. The answer: temporal denoising and median denoising. Good luck!

@BlenderDojo2 жыл бұрын
Hey, whenever my images look like tin foil even if I'm denoising it's probably because I am using another denoiser on top of the compositor denoiser or I don't have my other inputs plugged in to my denoiser. Make sure the denoise box is unchecked in the "Render Properties" tab and in the view layer properties be sure to enable "denoising data" then in the compositor. Then enable use nodes in compositing and add in a denoising node. Then hook up image normal and albedo to their respective inputs on the denoising node.

I'm still not sure which one is OIDIN wnd which one is NLM? I used to use the denoising node in the compositor but at animations everything gets messed up. Then I used the denoiser I've found on the right side on the render settings and setting it to accurate and albedo + normals. This works better, I suspect it is OIDIN :)

Hello. You know, what my problem is. My laptop has a 1660 ti, but my animation renders are quite complex with a lot of refraction etc and a sandy floor with stones. So I have to render it on a render farm, which does not allow opti x. So if I denoise it later, the sand texture disappears. If I render it myself with optix, it looks great, but due to a windows 10 update, I take 3 times longer to render on my laptop, then myself through the farm ^^ Is there a way to denoise afterwords and keep the sand texture?

I don't even have a graphics card in my Laptop. I've been using Google Colap to render. Usually get a couple hours a day of access to a T4. Don't know if this is a good idea but it's atleast 10 X faster for me. Never used a render farm.

I have a feeling that you make this wrong on purpose to get more traffic. But if not go to View layer properties and turn on denoising data That will add options on the compositing node tree that will make you activate the denoising normal, albedo and noisy image.
@BlenderDojo2 жыл бұрын
10:27 Shown right here! With the release of blender 3.0 the "noisy image" socket is gone too and the denoise node only has "image" "normal" and "albedo" for input sockets. I'm not intentionally doing anything wrong to get more traffic but if you have a deeper understanding that I may have missed feel free to help me out!
