Cathay itself might not bring a load of players in to play the faction, but may instil some confidence in fence-sitters that the game is going to get more new stuff rather than reprints and a couple of new kits per faction

They would sell like hotcakes on a made to order, but so far, they’ve not re-released anything that is outside the in universe era the game is set in. So sadly, I’m not holding hope for the regiments of renown, most of whom wouldn’t be around until a few hundred years after when the old world is set.

I wonder if with Empire coming out we'll get an actual 2-player Old World starter set. We have a lot of the single army starters but we're lacking a door-crasher two player entry into the old world. Battle for Skull Pass reprinted could do wonders here, or perhaps a reissue of the 6th Edition Starter set?

Tilea is next to the recently emphasized Border Princes, so I would be a bit surprised if we did not at least see Tilean mercenaries (pikemen at least) squeezed into an Empire Arcane Journal, or a supplement about campaigning, etc.

I think three possibilities (reboot, or completely new armies being a others). I'm not sure which I think is more likely. 1) new ways to play, like warhammer siege. 2) campaign settings, places to play like lustria. 3) times to play in, campaigns like storm of chaos, war of the beard. Or maybe they just spin back around and do a second go of arcane journals with new characters and extra army types?

I've been really happy putting togther the Beastmen army under my stairs and the Chaos release got me in properly. Added new Drogers and a Shaggoth, all the books, dice, terrain 👌 When Beastmen get their own book, I'll be dropping bank on minotaurs for sure 😂

80% for the Land Ship. It's so iconic, more so than the war wagon imo. I play Empire because they're not french (tongue in cheek), and you have access to better engines of war. I'm quite excited for an Empire Arcane journal with a Land Ship (which i am printing).

This is what i think we will see with empire release: -Army of infamy (nuln) -master Engineer on behemot steam tank -great canon able to buy monster slayer upgrade - new kit for knightly orders - nuln ironsides -manan blades

Highlands has a perfect war wagon btw. How big was the original land ship? I am using the one from lastsword as a steamtank currently but it is a bit too big for the 100 x 60 Base.

I think it’s likely they might just make another book for the pdf armies once they are done with everything else. They have plenty of AoS kits that can be sold for the old world. It’s frankly far cheaper than bringing in new armies yet. If we get a new edition, I really hope they sort out infantry and Magnus the pious getting a model.

2025 should be a pretty exciting year. Fingers crossed that we do see a new faction or some news on legacy factions becoming core. Even a softer approach like a campaign book would be greatly received as it would show they are going to back up the expanded project comments. We might also see some new minis occasionally pop up or some other interesting MTO offerings. If a new faction was released I think it would sell incredibly well…I for one would definitely buy it

How does Cathay fit into the lore of the current Timeline they have Chosen? They have been pretty specific about it taking place in or close to "The Old World" They left out of this edition some factions that are much closer to the Old World than Cathay. If its about the time leading upto Great war against Chaos Wouldn't Kislev Make more Sense? If it has to be completely new, what about something out of the Border Princes or even Albion? I could see Cathay in the future when they expand and bring back in Chaos Dwarfs and Ogre Tribes. Imagine a Old World 2nd ed. release box with Chaos Dwarfs and Cathay, that would be awesome!

A new novel would be nice, especially seeing as Empire is next, an Empire novel is sorely needed to flesh out the setting as there's only so much an Arcane Journal can do. Not that i read them but it would be good for people that want a more complete experience for the game. I actually believe GW are going for strong model releases in 2025 instead of a new edition drop as something of an experiment, Emperor's Children, Ogors for AoS, Plastic Superheavy Tanks for Heresy and hopefully that includes Old World.

For the future, if GW/SDS keep to one defining principle the Old World they will only go from strength to strength: 'Here are some new ways to play'. Not 'Here's what you need to play' like we have in 40k, but options. I can see campaign books with associated battle scenarios and army compositions becoming a central way of adding content to the game without making any changes to the core gameplay mechanics. That, as someone who struggles to get a handful of games in a year, would be an absolute godsend. I think there is definitely a portion of the wargaming community that is done with rules bloat and having to have numerous books and do homework to just to play the game they love. Here's hoping SDS stick to their guns on this one. As for the reveals at the weekend, I could easily see them reveleaing a whole host of Empire stuff based on Marienburg (Manaan's blades, land ship, etc.) as well as war wagons and the demi-gryph general from forge world. Equally though, I could see it just being the chaos marauder lady character and that's it. It is GW, after all.

With Empire i suspect the Empire (given now they are meant to have better tech) that a mounted engineer who will improve artillery. Couple this with the war wagon having not just crew but potentially artillery. So the mounted engineer would act like a pony cart to speed up artillery - this would give greater artillery movement. Just a thought!

The 2026 old world idea would truly enable the reality of a 40 years of 40k celebration Which is quite a massive event. 40 years of 40k would hypothetically be a banger with the rogue trader primarch coming back etc. So skipping 2026 would really make the idea work. 26/27 either work, but 27 being the year would make the most sense. And i expect huge releases, while 25 and 26 be kind of slowish

The landship is unlikely to return. Even setting aside timeline issues which GW seem intent on keeping to, scuttlebutt back in the day was that the master-mould (or something to that effect) was damaged very early on and the sculptor left the studio. This also contributes to the flaws in the casting of many kits due to the deteriorated state of the production mould etc. And at some point hobbyists reported being told by FW support that the model was deprecated and not returning because of this. I suppose it's possible that if they dug up the original model and remastered it could return... but that's nothing but a pipe dream.

Agreed. I dislike Cathay and it makes no sense to have them fighting battles in the Old World. There's armies that are in the Old World that have been left out. Bring them back before introducing a faction that isn't geographically located anywhere NEAR the Old World.

Save Cathay for a future, Eastern setting expansion. They could have Kislev, Chaos Dwarves, Cathay, and others. Just have this stuff make sense from a narrative stand point.

Shouldn't we finally see the Imperial Dwarves? They have models you can buy for them right now but no way to play them from what I have seen. I am waiting for Empire to release. This is my first Warhammer army ever! So far I have bought mercenaries that Empire can use like the Badlands Ogres, Imperial Dwarves, and Prince Ulther's Dragon Company. I even have a little Fortified Manor. Can't wait to see what else comes out for Empire and more of the mercenary units!

Virtually all the people I talk to about why they're not playing GW "mainline" games anymore cite the three-year cycle as the main reason - it's just too much to keep up with, and I wonder if it's hitting a tipping point. At some point it must be more profitable for GW to keep more people in a game with a longer cycle than it does to squeeze the people who stay in the short cycle.
