I subscribe to a lot of photographer channels that produce really good images with with expensive and sophisticated equipment. The difference with Gavin is that he has such a deep technical understanding of photography that he can produce pictures on another level, even within the constraints of a modest studio and equipment. Gavin's understated delivery leads one to assume that it's easy, but it really is not. Hats off to an outstanding mentor!

Everyone did a nice job on this video. I enjoyed seeing a variety of setup ideas. Sophie is beautiful and I’m sure she thought the portraits all did her justice. When I try this I will cut a slot in both a white and black piece of foam board. There might be a small difference, likely negligible, but I’m curious.

Help. I took control of the room light and it works, however the viewfinder becomes completely dark so I cannot frame the model properly. I understand this is because the viewfinder on mirrorless camera show preview of the settings, unlike with DSLR. How do I get around this? Thanks in advance.

one thing that can be done to improve the last shot is to use a projector like Godox one or Westcott Lindsy Adler optical spot. That way, the slit of light on model's face can be more narrow and defined.
@GavinHoey2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tommy. That would indeed make a huge and positive difference but my idea with the "Your First..." series is to keep the gear used more general.

Why were you trying to set your flash to the same settings as your camera? I didn't understand that part. And how do you set the flash, does it have settings? We're using strobes, mostly, in a lighting class at school, and there don't seem to be settings. I'm about to go there and practice, for the first time, so I'm trying to get a better idea by watching this video.
