Sound, concise, and easy to understand advice with excellent sound quality, practically presented, along with a beautiful model, packaged in an expertly edited video. Can someone explain to me how this gets even one "dislike," nevermind 44? People are fickle.

Gav, awesome tutorial. I've rewatched a dozen times and cant convince myself that a large area of her cheeks look sort of dark or muddy. From here I can't tell how much makeup has been applied but a reduction might be called for. Regards

I studied years ago at a workshop with a master photographer, Frank Cricio, and he had developed a technique called porcelain light, using a soft key light with a harder projected parobolic light, which would create a focused specularity in line with the key on the face. You dont want to use this on a subject with harsh skin features. The beauty this brought, likened images to the forty and fifty era glamor portraits. This really has a wonderful visual impact with B&W.

Really enjoy your upbeat videos. You show us that we don't need the most expensive equipment to get great shots. I am also a fan of Adorama. I purchase most of my kit from them and they have treated me very well. I use a lot of the same equipment that you do, and find that the balance between value and quality can not be beat. Please keep the videos coming.

Gavin, from the videos you’ve made about lighting, the one thing that I would love to learn from you is the post processing. Specifically how to make the image soft and beautiful without damaging its overall sharpness.
@GavinHoey2 жыл бұрын
There are many ways to post process skin. I use a range of techniques depending on the jobs, subject and look I'm after. My two favourite are the Luminar plug-in for a strong effect or just reducing the texture in Camera RAW (Lightroom Classic) for a general softening. Obviously, starting with soft light and good make-up makes the post processing a lot, lot simpler 😉
@lensbrew2 жыл бұрын
@@GavinHoey I’ve seen and learned many techniques, including Luminar AI. But the images you had in this video clicked with me the most and are what I aspire to develop my style with. I had to ask because they are my favorite.

Hi Anita. There are two secret tips you need in order to "get it". First is to spectacularly fail on a regular basis. The second is look objectively look at the failures to learn why they failed. Stick at it, it gets easier.

Hello, Great video for beginners in studio photography like me. One question I have is why do we need to check if no ambient light is falling on the sensor? Gavin made sure that without a strobe, with F 5.6, Shutter Speed at 1/250, and ISO 200, the image is all dark with no effect of ambient light and then he added a strobe and kept the power of the strobe to match F, S and ISO. Can anyone please help me understand this? Thanks in advance. Thanks & Regards, Chetan Mehta
