I learned the hard way about not bringing too much when you are deployed because you will need room for items you are going to purchase and bring back with you or ship home until you get there. When going to a cold climate they issued us a cold weather gear bag with all the items we should carry with us and I would leave everything behind except for the parka and load the bag up with items I purchased while away. I was in the Air Force and we traveled often to other bases on TDY duty and I appreciated that so much and missed it after retiring.

I got on my 1st ship in the Navy literally in the PERSIAN GULF, and no I'm not kidding. I really did. I was an SH, and I went to barber school and cut hair badly, (just being honest). I can answer any questions anyone has. I was in almost 8 years. I was on a Battleship, a Fast Frigate and Ammunition Oiler, and 2 years of shore duty.

Halie Barton it just goes back to how much space you have on the ship really. If you just have your rack I say pack light. But if your division has a storeroom pack as much as you want

I have watched a couple of these Navy on deployments I never serve so I can't speak about it my dad served the Navy for 20 years course he got out in 1973 the world is a lot different back then but until he become a chief he could never take civilian clothes with him that we know of us the story always heard he may have bought something when he got to Japan or something like that I don't know but this snack food and all this kind of stuff I've never heard him talk about this stuff shortages or anything like that and of course I've always heard the Navy or the Air Force always have the best food and I'm here in an army area now and they don't have nothing good to say about Army Food but I just find it mind-boggling to watch some of the stuff these people take my dad only carried one sea bag with him but yes as far as people stealing your stuff I agree with you that my dad had a guy steal his own boots one time and he swore on his mother's grave those were his boots whoever my dad had to call to take care of the problem and it was probably submarines fat had to do it I was always under the impression they're the ones that handled that kind of stuff on a aircraft carrier for the brig so on my dad took boots and then pulls a tongue back on him and had his name in it the guy just wasn't smart enough to know that my dad has his name inside the boots oh well I just can't believe the amount of stuff that people take with them now

Jennica Richardson ok so your rack is about 6ft long and maybe 3ft wife (I’m not too sure about the width it’s been a minute) but around there. There are 2 larger compartments on each side and little ones in the middle. Like boot camp but smaller lol. And the locker isn’t big at all. Maybe hip height (I’m 5’11)

Shataysha Belfield find out if you’re staying on the ship or if your getting a barracks room. If you’re staying on the ship you shouldn’t bring a lot of stuff because you’re not gonna have a lot of storage. If your getting a room, girl you can bring whatever you want. Clothes, makeup, shoes, laptop, tv. Rooms normally come with microwaves
