your advice is perfect and when I go anyplace in the Philippines it’s always with my wife and depending what we’re doing even the clan as we have a Mazda 4x4 pickup truck and we’ve taken as many as 20 plus people at a time! everyone in the neighborhood knows who I am and most are related! I now consider this my home! i like how you explain things and tonight my wife sent me pictures of mangoes my brother in law is selling them and you can’t get good mango in the USA I will be back later this year after getting some medical attention you can’t get in the Philippines

Filipina pea I have a question. I notice a lot of Filipinas in the Philippines are single mothers especially at a very young age starting at 18. Many marry come to the states or other countries as single moms. I met a lot in the states. Why does that happen a lot there especially at a young age?

The 'perfect, uncreased, unmarked notes' thing is an issue in Indonesia, too. I got quite good at cleaning and ironing USD100 notes ! The most plausible explanation I got was that forgers will often crunch, wash etc, phony notes so that they can claim that is why they don't look right. So banks started only taking perfect notes, and everyone else copied them.

She’s right about slowing down. I’m American and we are used to moving fast and efficiently through our day to day and that doesn’t work in the Philippines so make sure you bring lots of patience. Also be prepared to be over charged for everything you pay for outside of malls especially for taxi rides. Make sure the driver turns on the meter before he moves and if he refuses get out of the car. Filipinos are the most helpful and hospitable people on the planet but they will never say they don’t know or can’t help you. So if u ask them for say directions to somewhere and they don’t know where that place is. Instead of saying sorry they don’t know where that is, they will give u false directions. So any time u ask someone for help to find a place I would suggest asking at least one more person for help. They will either give you the same directions so u know the first person was right or they will point u in the correct direction. Filipinos don’t mean to give you the wrong information they just want to be helpful so badly that they can’t say they can’t help u. They don’t realize that saying sorry I don’t know is actually better than giving us the wrong information. Please do visit the Philippines it’s a wonderful country with wonderful people.

It’s so much easier when you have your girl running the show and a whole family network that’s taking care of everything. It’s also a lot more fun as going to any country is any entirely a different experience when you have the inside scoop with local knowledge of a place, contacts, friends, etc. They know whats safe and whats risky. They know where all the fun is and the hidden gems, off the beaten path.

@@joeyvgang being totally aware of where you are. For example, I always sit in a restaurant (or any public place for that matter) with my back to a wall and where I can see the entrance. Even in a mall, if I stop to take a call or look at a map, I move to where, once again, my back is to a wall or display window. Know where you are going and how to get back (your hotel doorman or security can always give you the good advice). Another is I do not wear ANY jewellery, especially the gold chains I see guys wearing. That is to a mugger like a flower is to a bee.

Don't tell the incompetent bureaucrat they are incompetent. Don't wander around staring at your phone making movies everywhere you step. (tunnel vision) Don't expect traffic to follow "normal" rules elsewhere (think Juarez road rules & remember they give prizes to Paris taxis that run tourists over) DON'T EVER GET TOO DRUNK!!! Even better pro travel trip: scan your passport pages and email them to yourself. You’ll be able to access it anywhere in the world, even if robbed of everything you own, fire, accident, etc. Also, instead of just a copy. Laminate the copy and your itinerary. Rains a lot in PH. That is what I do, email as well as laminate the hard copy. Also I have a laminated copy of my address in both USA and Australia (dual citizen) as well as my Philippine cell #. It came in handy when my bag got lost and proving it was mine when found (3 days later). As I told them at the time when arriving to pick it up " If you look inside, you will see a laminated copy of both passports and another with my address and Philippine cell # that you rang me on. Chances are it is my bag " 😂)

Nice part of flying to Cebu from Australia is you can fly on a full service airline (I fly Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong) and it makes the journey quite comfortable.

I have been to the Manila airport over 20 times and have never had a major problem. I have been to the Cebu airport twice and both times were a total fiasco and have avoided it since then. Goes to show you that timing is everything.

Been back and forth from The UK 9 times on vacations in The Philippines since 2008 no problem whatsoever only been caught up in one dangerous situation, a wild ferry crossing during a typhoon way back in 2013 returning Bantayan Island back to Cebu 😅🤣😅 with my ex fiancée'. Just got back from Baguio ,its in the 70s and cooler at night because its 4000 ft above sea level .. But its got some negative like youre in the clouds a lot with rain and fog, you must deal with a long winding road to get up there and the city is way over crowded with tourist traffic crawling bumper to bumper all day on hilly narrow winding streets, about the only thing i liked besides the cooler weather was it has a nice big modern mall unlike everything else in that area, which has the typical run down Philippine 3rd world motif

Pea, I have been several times to see my wife over the past year. I agree, Cebu is my favorite arrival and departure airport. Most importantly, be patient. The Philippines runs on it's own time. Don't get upset when lines, grab taxis, restaurants don't move at the pace you want. The Filipino people are some of the most welcoming and friendly people I have ever met. Remember, take a deep breath, sit back and relax. Tourists will have a great time visiting the Philippines.

I enjoy the Philippines and love taking the bus to the rural areas. As a businessman in America the stress reduction of the bucket showers and simplistic lifestyles outside the city's is a breathe of fresh air. I do love the food in the city's. I met my Filipina wife 17 years ago in the Philippines, we've been happily married every since and now living in Canada. But I remember certain things on that first visit such as the thousands of electrical lines sprawling across streets. Never seen anything like that in my life. And some of the cars driving with no lights on (I later was told it was because they could not afford new ones). And armed guards in the McDonald's restaurants (who wants to steal a Big Mac? lol). And everywhere I went, people would yell at me "hey Joe!" (my name also happens to be Joe). I wondered how the hell they knew my name! haha. I've been there 26 times now so I have got used to everything!

I'm looking forward to my first visit to the Philippines at the end of July to beginning of August. Flight is from Ohio to O'Hare to Hong Kong and finally Manila. Almost 28 hours from beginning to end. My Filipina is to be there in Manila waiting on me as she does not trust other filipinas of the area. She has said that everything is planned and taken care of. I will be meeting the lady I've talked with for 3 1/2 years and her daughter. I'm looking forward to meeting her and her daughter plus learning as much as I can about your culture. Honestly put yourself in her position and it would be extremely awkward for one of your subscribers to invite you out. That is setting a precedent of people getting too close, knowing too much, possibly harassing her. The best thing that you can do is just respect her safety and her wish to remain anonymous.
